Chapter 8: Retreat
Oliver looked back and saw that the sunflower monsters hadn't advanced much.
They seemed quite slow when moving, but their attack range was incredibly wide.
'If I were an Awakener, I could level up by killing some of them,' he thought.
Unfortunately, he was a Cultivator. That meant it was meaningless—aside from getting Monster Cores that he could sell.
If that was all he did, he wouldn't be able to focus on his cultivation.
"Wha—!"
As he continued forward, he encountered a large river filled with anacondas, giant snakes whose tails were thicker than a human thigh.
They swam in the river, causing it to churn incessantly.
From what he could see, the smallest was at least seven meters long, while the largest reached up to ten meters.
They ranged from Level 3 to Level 6.
'Do all people who enter the Chaotic World immediately run into this many monsters?' Oliver couldn't help but wonder. It seemed like there wasn't a single spot in this world without monsters.
'The Second Stage isn't enough to make me feel safe,' he thought.
As he looked at the anacondas, they looked back at him.
Their eyes were cold—filled with bloodlust.
Compared to the lion earlier, Oliver felt that these anacondas had an even greater thirst for killing.
If there were only a few of them, he was confident he could fight. But there were far too many.
The moment they saw him, they moved toward him—and their speed was downright terrifying.
Whoosh!
He summoned his portal and immediately stepped through, closing it swiftly as he reappeared in his room.
Facing them was too dangerous, so he needed to make other preparations first.
'I must've just been unlucky and landed in a spot too dangerous for beginners,' he guessed.
If everyone appeared in locations swarming with high-level monsters, then it would be nearly impossible for new Awakeners to survive—let alone level up. After all, most of them started at Level 1 and wouldn't even stand a chance against those sunflower monsters.
He sat on his bed, then lay down.
Once again, his mind focused on raising his cultivation—comprehending Black Hole and his techniques while also absorbing Will Energy.
He had just used void power in battle, and he believed it hadn't been meaningless.
As he recalled how he used that power, he realized there were several things he could improve, allowing him to use it more effectively.
That was a new insight—and every new insight slightly improved his understanding.
(Cultivation: Second Stage of the Spiritual Master Realm!)
(Spiritual Energy: 0/300!)
(Body: Void Body!)
(Will: Spiritual Master | 76/1000 Will Energy!) +3
(Innate Scripture from Void Body):

Void Particle Control (1.40%) +0.20
Void Step (1.75%)

"At least it improved," he muttered with a nod.
That was more than enough to satisfy him—especially since he had meditated for less than ten minutes.
