Chapter 14: TST [14]
The three dragon heads turned in unison, jaws wide open as they aimed at Morgan.
The next moment, a fierce blizzard engulfed her.
Jade gasped in shock, covering her mouth and nose as she looked on in worry.
Thankfully, Morgan soon burst out from the mist of frost.
Though her Life Points inevitably dropped, she stabilized herself skillfully and kept the Duel going.
In just that short time, she had fully mastered her Duel Skateboard.
Was this the power of Calm Mind?
A glint of clarity flashed in Morgan's eyes.
Truth be told, while Underworld decks were great fun to play, they had one fatal flaw: poor sustain.
She had exhausted all her resources and had nothing left in hand.
If she didn't draw something usable next turn, this Duel would be as good as lost.
So the Underworld path ends with a clutch draw, huh?
Morgan let out a long sigh.
After landing a direct hit, Isla had nothing else she could do, so she ended her turn.
"My turn, draw!"
Morgan pinned all her hopes on this draw.
At that moment, it was as if she were possessed by Yusei Fudo himself. When she flipped over the card, a smile crept across her lips.
"I activate the Spell Card, Pot of Extravagance!"
Topdecking Pot of Extravagance at a critical moment—what soul!
"I banish 6 face-down cards from my Extra Deck to draw 2 cards from my Deck!"
Her Extra Deck was mostly packed with useless filler, and you could say she built it specifically to support this card.
Thankfully, it finally came in handy.
Morgan looked at the two cards in her hand and immediately smiled.
With these, she could at last put up a fight!
"I set two cards. Turn end!"
She placed her final two cards face-down and decisively ended her turn.
"Looks like you're out of options, Morgan!"
Seeing Morgan only set cards, Isla finally breathed a sigh of relief. Morgan had startled her far too many times today—so much that she'd even feared she might lose.
But now, it seemed she'd been overthinking it.
Morgan ranked dead last in the Middle Division. No matter how enlightened she seemed, she couldn't surpass Isla in such a short time.
Isla grew more confident in her judgment. The weight on her heart finally eased.
"My turn, draw!"
"Battle! Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier, attack Morgan directly!"
Without hesitation, Isla declared her attack right after drawing, aiming to end the Duel quickly.
That said, this was exactly the moment Morgan had been waiting for. A triumphant smile appeared on her face.
"At this moment, I activate the face-down card, Compulsory Evacuation Device!"
"Huh? Compulsory... Evacuation?!"
At Morgan's words, Isla's face flushed bright red. She looked flustered, her ears and neck turning the shade of cooked shrimp.
"?" Morgan stared at her, puzzled…Did this girl read a bit too much of the "wrong" stuff?
To Morgan, this was child's play—nothing to be fazed by.
"What are you thinking..."
Morgan's tone snapped Isla back to her senses. She coughed awkwardly.
"That card's effect: Return 1 monster on my opponent's field to the hand!"
"Since Trishula is a Synchro Monster, it goes back to the Extra Deck!"
As Morgan finished speaking, Trishula dissolved into light and returned to Isla's Extra Deck.
Isla's expression changed. She hadn't expected Morgan to find salvation at the brink of defeat.
However, Morgan still had no monsters on the field. Unless she summoned something with over 2500 Attack next turn, the Duel would continue.
Her slim hopes didn't last long, though, as Morgan flipped her other card.
"I activate another Trap Card: Return from the Different Dimension!"
"Pay half my Life Points to Special Summon all banished monsters back to the field!"
'Banished monsters…'
Isla's face fell.
Morgan had only banished one: the Lava Golem that Trishula removed!
And Lava Golem had—
3000 Attack!
Far more than her remaining LP!
Isla's face turned ashen.
Lava Golem slowly reappeared behind Morgan, the iron cage before its chest enclosing her.
Though it would burn 1000 LP during the Standby Phase, that no longer mattered.
Jade, holding her breath, watched the scene unfold.
Lava Golem's fist came crashing down, instantly wiping out Isla's Life Points.
She stared in disbelief—then screamed with joy.
"YAHOO—! Morgan won! She actually won!"
With one duelist's LP reduced to zero, the Duel was over.
[Speed World] shut down. The arena gradually dimmed.
Morgan and Isla's Duel Skateboards came to a slow stop, and their Duel Disks powered off.
Isla stood frozen, seemingly unable to process her defeat.
But she soon snapped out of it, removed her helmet, and walked toward Morgan.
