Chapter 64:
After that live broadcast, Jiang Nan’s reputation took a nosedive.
Over the next week, whether out of frustration or some other reason, Jiang Nan became increasingly bitter and mean-spirited. He didn’t bother to hide his anger anymore, picking fights with Jiang Feng at every opportunity.
From morning until night, the two of them were constantly bickering.
Despite the tension, Jiang Feng’s week was going quite smoothly.
Every morning, he woke up around 9:10, and by the time he was up, breakfast was already prepared.
Grandma would rise early to cook and, seeing him emerge from his room, would greet him warmly.
“Xiao Feng, how’s the room?” she asked, always concerned. “The bedding is a bit old. If you’re not sleeping well, I can go to town and buy a new one.”
Still groggy, Jiang Feng yawned and stretched.
Grandma smiled and handed him a face wash.
“This is some face wash I picked up,” she said. “I heard people in the city like using this kind. I don’t know if this brand is any good, but I bought it this morning in town. Give it a try!”
The face wash looked cheap, with poorly printed packaging. It was clearly a no-name brand.
As Jiang Nan walked by, he noticed Grandma fussing over Jiang Feng and felt a surge of jealousy rise within him. Unable to control himself, he spoke up.
“Grandma,” Jiang Nan said, with a sarcastic smile, “my brother has always been delicate. He doesn’t use things like this. His food’s all imported, and the clothes he wears are all high-end brands. Even the carpets in his room are handmade from abroad. You’re wasting your effort; he won’t appreciate it.”
Grandma’s expression fell, looking a bit embarrassed by Jiang Nan’s comments.
But before she could respond, Jiang Feng interrupted, taking the face wash from her hands.
“Did you buy this for me?” he asked, smiling at her. “Thank you, Grandma. I’ll use it.”
Seeing Jiang Feng accept the gift, Grandma’s face lit up with a big smile. She turned to Jiang Nan with a stern glare.
“He’s delicate? Hah! He’s hardworking, unlike you. Do you think everyone’s as lazy as you, getting tired after doing the bare minimum?”
These days, Jiang Feng had been busy with his live streams, broadcasting for nearly 8 hours each day.
His follower count had surged by a million, making Grandma both proud and protective of him.
In her eyes, Jiang Feng had become like her own grandson.
So when Jiang Nan mocked him for being “delicate,” she couldn’t hold back any longer.
“I’m truly baffled by you,” she said, exasperated. “Xiao Feng is working hard, streaming every day, while you get tired just picking vegetables. Why are you even on this show? To take care of Xiao Feng? Ridiculous! You’re just trying to tear him down!”
Grandma had lived long enough to see through people, and in her eyes, Jiang Nan wasn’t a good person.
At first, she hadn’t known Jiang Feng well enough to get involved. But now things were different.
Jiang Feng was practically family to her now, and she wasn’t going to stand by and let anyone, not even Jiang Nan, bully him.
“What do you mean I’m trying to destroy Xiao Feng’s image?” Jiang Nan shot back, irritated. “Why are you getting so worked up?”
“Worked up?” Grandma asked, raising her eyebrows.
“I—I’m not worked up!” Jiang Nan snapped, his pent-up frustration finally bursting out.
“You all are so biased! Why does he get to just chat with fans while I have to pick vegetables? I could easily do what he’s doing! Why can’t I live as well as him?”
Jiang Nan couldn’t believe Jiang Feng was better at live streaming than he was. After all, he was the more educated one!
Grandma, though, was having none of it.
“You think you’re better than Xiao Feng?” She asked, her voice filled with disbelief.
Then she laughed, though there was no humor in it. “I think Xiao Feng is better than you! Have you finished picking today’s vegetables? If not, don’t even think about eating!”
