Yaxoc's Adventure: Act 5

Chapter 4: Chapter 4: Gem Of Kindness

9 AM: The Journey to Masoquest

The sun rose high, casting its golden glow over the squad as they stood outside a bustling airport. Their next adventure was just on the horizon.

"So, we're really flying to another continent?" Yaxoc asked, shading his eyes from the glare of the morning light.

"Yeah," Moonlight replied, adjusting the strap of her bag. "We're taking a plane to Masoquest. It's faster than sailing, and we're on a schedule."

Yaxoc sighed, muttering under his breath. "Planes… not my thing."

The group boarded the aircraft, settling into their seats as the engines roared to life. Hours passed as they soared across vast oceans and landscapes. Yaxoc spent most of the flight complaining about the food, while Yaxocara teased him relentlessly. Moonlight and Cherrystone, meanwhile, quietly planned their approach for the next phase of their mission.

When the squad disembarked, the first thing Yaxoc noticed was the dry heat. The air was thick, the ground cracked in places, and the horizon stretched endlessly in a mixture of amber and gold.

"Huh, it's pretty… desertic here," Yaxoc observed, shielding his face from the sun.

"It always has been," Moonlight said matter-of-factly, scanning the surroundings. "Masoquest is known for its arid climate and harsh terrain. That's why the tribes are so resilient."

Cherrystone adjusted her cloak. "Let's not waste time. We have a gem to collect. Everyone, keep up!"

Without warning, Moonlight broke into a sprint. "Full speed ahead!" she called out, her voice trailing in the wind.

"Hey! Wait for me!" Yaxoc yelled, immediately running after her.

Yaxocara smirked, watching the two race off. "Well, I guess it's just us—" Before she could finish, she took off as well, leaving Cherrystone behind.

Cherrystone sighed, shaking her head. "They're like children sometimes. But honestly, I could use a good run too." With that, she joined the chase, her laughter carried by the breeze.

After what felt like an eternity of sprinting across the dusty plains, the squad stumbled upon a dense forest. The air here was cooler, the sun filtered through a canopy of emerald leaves. The sudden change in environment was a relief.

"What is this forest?" Yaxoc asked, looking around.

"No clue," Moonlight replied, her expression calm but curious.

Cherrystone stepped forward, pointing toward a faintly glowing area deeper in the forest. "This is the Uriscon Forest, home of the Uriscon Tribe. They've been known for their peaceful nature for decades, and it's all thanks to the Gem of Kindness. They formed an entire religion around it, considering it their sacred treasure."

The squad's attention shifted to the glowing object Cherrystone was pointing at: the Gem of Kindness. It sat in a small shrine made of intricately carved stone, surrounded by flowers and offerings.

"But how are we supposed to take the gem?" Yaxoc asked, scratching his head. "We can't just waltz in and ruin their entire religion. That'd make us the bad guys."

Yaxocara smirked and pulled something from her bag—a handmade gem, glowing faintly and crafted to mimic the appearance of the Gem of Kindness. "Ever heard of glowing minerals, dumbass? I made this on the plane. It looks just like the real thing."

"Oh," Yaxoc said, blinking in surprise. "That's… actually smart."

Moonlight examined the fake gem, her lips curving into a grin. "Nice work, Yaxocara. This could really work. Now we just need to figure out how to make the switch without anyone noticing."

Cherrystone clapped her hands, her expression focused. "Leave that to me."

In an instant, the squad's surroundings shimmered. Cherrystone had used her magic to momentarily swap the real gem with Yaxocara's replica. The shrine now held the fake Gem of Kindness, while the real one safely rested in Cherrystone's magical pocket.

"There," she said with a satisfied smile. "The Gem of Kindness is ours. Let's move before anyone notices."

As the squad began to leave the forest, the ground beneath them trembled slightly. Yaxoc froze.

"Uh… is that normal?" he asked, his voice uneasy.

"No," Cherrystone said sharply, her eyes scanning the forest. "We might've triggered something."

Moonlight grabbed Yaxoc's arm. "Run. Now."

The group sprinted through the forest as a faint hum filled the air. It wasn't long before tribal drums echoed behind them.

"Looks like they noticed," Yaxocara said, glancing over her shoulder.

"Just keep running!" Cherrystone shouted.

The squad pushed forward, dodging branches and leaping over roots. The drums grew louder, but the forest's edge was in sight. With one final burst of speed, they broke through the treeline and back into the open plains.

The drums stopped.

The group came to a halt, panting and drenched in sweat.

"Well," Yaxoc said between breaths, "that… was fun."

Moonlight shot him a look. "Fun? That was a disaster waiting to happen."

"But it didn't happen," Yaxocara pointed out, grinning. "We got the gem, and no one's hurt. Mission accomplished."

Cherrystone pulled the Gem of Kindness from her pocket, holding it up to the light. It shimmered brilliantly, radiating a soft warmth. "One down, two to go," she said, a hint of pride in her voice.

As they began their trek toward the next destination, Yaxoc walked alongside Cherrystone.

"Hey," he said, glancing at the gem in her hand. "Do you think the Uriscon Tribe will notice the switch?"

"They might," Cherrystone admitted. "But by then, we'll be long gone. And honestly, the replica Yaxocara made is good enough to fool anyone who doesn't look too closely."

Yaxoc nodded, his expression thoughtful. "Still… feels weird taking something so important to them. Even if we need it more."

Cherrystone placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "It's not about stealing. It's about protecting the greater good. The gems don't belong to any one tribe or person—they're meant to be used to maintain balance in the world."

Yaxoc didn't respond, but her words seemed to put him at ease.

The squad pressed forward, their spirits high despite the challenges ahead. The plains of Masoquest stretched out before them, and somewhere in the distance, the next gem awaited.

For now, they had each other—and that was enough.

Meanwhile, in the Uriscon Tribe

The once-serene atmosphere of the Uriscon Tribe was disrupted by the booming voice of an intruder. Lucius, his dark aura crackling with menace, strode into the heart of the tribe, drawing the attention of all who dared look his way.

"Alright, listen here, folks," he snarled, his sharp eyes scanning the gathered crowd. "Unless you want me to destroy this pitiful tribe of yours, you're going to hand over your most prized possession: The Gem of Hope!"

The villagers cowered, their whispers rippling through the crowd like wind through leaves. Suddenly, the emperor of the tribe, a towering figure clad in ceremonial robes adorned with intricate tribal patterns, emerged from his chamber. His presence alone silenced the murmurs.

"Who is this?" the emperor asked, his voice calm but commanding.

None of the guards could answer, their eyes darting between Lucius and their leader. The emperor, undeterred, turned to Lucius and said, "State your business with my tribe."

Lucius's lips curled into a sneer. "Didn't you hear me? Hand over the Gem of Hope, or I'll obliterate your pathetic tribe and erase it from existence."

The emperor's expression remained stoic as he replied, "The gem was recently stolen by a group of teenagers. They replaced it with a fake one before they fled."

Lucius's fists clenched, his entire body trembling with rage. "Damn it! Stupid Yaxoc and his squad!"

Before Lucius could unleash his wrath, two figures materialized behind him. Sukorian and Nova, their energy radiating confidence, stepped forward.

"Well, well," Nova said with a smirk, her staff glowing faintly. "Looks like someone's late to the party."

Sukorian chuckled, adjusting his robe as he gestured toward Lucius. "Yeah, sorry, pal. The gem you're after? Long gone."

Lucius turned, his glare sharp enough to cut steel. "You!" he roared, his voice echoing through the clearing. "What the hell are you two doing here?"

"Isn't it obvious?" Sukorian replied, his tone mocking. "We're here to stop you from getting your grubby hands on any more gems."

Nova leaned closer to Sukorian and whispered, "Uh, the real gem is already gone, remember?"

Sukorian waved her off, whispering back, "I know, I know. Just let me have this moment."

Clearing his throat, Sukorian looked back at Lucius. "Anyway, the point stands. You're not getting any gems while we're around."

Lucius barked a laugh, his dark aura intensifying. "You think you two can stop me? You're not even worth my time."

Before either Sukorian or Nova could respond, Lucius disappeared in a flash of light, his teleportation leaving behind a faint ripple in the air.

Sukorian rubbed his temples, muttering, "Great, now he's off to cause more trouble."

Nova rolled her eyes. "We should've stopped him while we had the chance."

"Yeah, well, hindsight's twenty-twenty," Sukorian replied, preparing to teleport away. "Let's catch up to him before he gets too far ahead."

The pair vanished in a swirl of magical energy, leaving the tribe to their uneasy silence.

As the dust settled, the emperor stood motionless, his gaze fixed on the spot where the sorcerers had vanished. His guards and villagers looked to him for guidance, their expressions a mix of fear and confusion.

Finally, the emperor broke the silence. "I've seen worse with my schizophrenia," he muttered, shaking his head and turning back toward his chamber.

The villagers exchanged bewildered glances, unsure whether to be comforted or more alarmed by their leader's remark. For now, life in the Uriscon Tribe would return to normal—or at least as normal as it could be after a visit from Lucius.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The squad entered the desolate streets of Masoquest's capital city, an eerie silence greeting them. The once-bustling roads and markets stood vacant, their lively charm replaced by a ghostly stillness. Broken signs swayed in the wind, and the air carried a faint metallic tang that made everyone uneasy.

"What's up with this city? It looks like a ghost town," Yaxoc said, glancing around uneasily.

Cherrystone frowned as she scanned the area. "This isn't normal. Cities like this don't just empty out. It must be some sort of emergency… something bad is about to happen."

Before anyone could speculate further, a sharp crack of energy rang out, and a familiar dark figure materialized behind them.

"It's him!" Yaxoc shouted, spinning around with wide eyes.

Lucius stood tall and imposing, his dark aura flickering like wildfire. His gaze was locked onto the squad, and his lips curled into a wicked grin.

"Well, well," Lucius sneered, his voice dripping with malice. "Your time has come. Hand over the gems, and maybe I'll spare you."

Yaxoc stepped forward defiantly, clenching his fists. "No chance! We're not handing over anything, not after what you did with that demon last time. You'll just use these gems to make things worse!"

Lucius's grin faded, replaced by a snarl of rage. "Then I'll take them by force!"

Before Lucius could lunge, Nova suddenly appeared, stepping between him and the squad. With a swift motion of his hand, a shimmering barrier materialized in front of him.

"Gotcha," Nova said, smirking confidently.

Lucius skidded to a stop, his eyes narrowing as he studied the barrier. "Infinity..." he muttered, recognizing the technique immediately.

Before Lucius could react further, Sukorian teleported behind him, his staff humming with energy.

"You're surrounded now," Sukorian said, his tone calm but laced with menace.

Yaxoc blinked in confusion as he looked at Sukorian. "Wait... is that another Bambon?" he asked, scratching his head.

Sukorian shot him a quick glance. "Focus, kid. This isn't your fight."

Lucius growled, pivoting sharply to deliver a roundhouse kick aimed at Sukorian's face. But Sukorian moved with inhuman precision, ducking under the attack and countering with a powerful strike to Lucius's abdomen.

The impact sent Lucius stumbling backward. Nova capitalized on the opening, teleporting above Lucius and delivering a fierce kick that launched him into the sky.

Sukorian didn't waste a second. Raising his staff, he chanted, "Cut Technique: Cleave!"

In an instant, a storm of slashes enveloped Lucius. Blades of energy struck him from all directions with immeasurable speed, leaving glowing scars on his dark armor. Lucius roared in pain, his voice echoing across the empty city.

"Nice one," Nova said, giving Sukorian an approving nod. "Now it's my turn."

Nova teleported directly in front of Lucius, his expression calm but deadly. Energy swirled around him as he raised his hand.

"Reversal Technique: Purple," Nova chanted.

A massive surge of energy exploded outward, consuming Lucius in a violet inferno. The sheer force of the blast tore through the sky, and Lucius was hurled across the horizon, vanishing into the distance.

As the dust settled, Sukorian lowered his staff and glanced at Nova. "That should keep him busy for a while," he said.

Nova nodded. "Agreed. Let's regroup and plan our next move."

With a shimmer of light, the two sorcerers vanished, leaving the squad behind in stunned silence.

Yaxoc scratched his head, breaking the silence. "Wow, they absolutely violated him in that 2v1. I thought for sure Lucius would be able to tank all of that."

"I don't think he was using his demonic essence," Yaxocara muttered, her arms crossed.

Cherrystone adjusted her gloves thoughtfully. "That's what I suspected as well. If Lucius had tapped into his full power, this fight would've played out very differently."

Moonlight sighed, her gaze lingering on the horizon where Lucius had disappeared. "Well, it's not our problem for now. Let's keep moving before something else happens."

Yaxoc shrugged. "Yeah, sure. Not like we can top that performance anyway."

The squad continued walking through the empty streets. Despite their earlier confidence, the eerie silence of the city weighed heavily on them. The lack of life was unsettling, and every creak or distant sound set them on edge.

"Do you think this place was evacuated because of Lucius?" Yaxocara asked, her voice breaking the silence.

"It's possible," Cherrystone replied. "Lucius's aura alone is enough to send people into a panic. But this feels... bigger than just him."

Moonlight stopped suddenly, her eyes narrowing as she scanned their surroundings. "Wait. Do you hear that?"

The group paused, straining to listen. At first, there was nothing. Then, faintly, the sound of distant chanting reached their ears.

"That's coming from the center of the city," Cherrystone said. "We should check it out."

Yaxoc groaned. "Ugh, can't we just avoid the creepy chanting? It's probably another weird cult or something."

Cherrystone shot him a look. "We're saviors. It's literally our job to investigate weird stuff."

Reluctantly, Yaxoc followed as the group made their way toward the sound.

As they approached the city square, the chanting grew louder. When they arrived, they found a circle of hooded figures surrounding a glowing pedestal. At the center of the pedestal was another gem, its radiant light illuminating the area.

"The Gem of Bravery," Cherrystone whispered.

"How many of these gems are tied to weird cults?" Yaxoc asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Too many," Moonlight muttered.

One of the hooded figures turned, noticing the group. "Intruders!" the figure hissed, their voice reverberating unnaturally.

The other cultists turned as well, their eyes glowing an eerie red.

"Okay, now this is bad," Yaxoc said, backing up slightly.

Cherrystone stepped forward, her fists glowing with magic. "Everyone, get ready. We're not leaving without that gem."
