Work Prophet

Chapter 157: Eight-Treasure Congee, Self-Heating Hotpot, and Dali Garden

Though Li Yu insisted that Ireya was not allowed to ride the White Queen when he wasn't around, the young girl was increasingly realizing how convenient it was to ride this dragon.

The main reason is that transportation on Bratis Continent is quite backward. In non-coastal areas, the only ways to travel are by carriage or on foot, and the road conditions aren't great, often requiring over ten days of walking, and going further might take months.

Only after riding the dragon did the Lady understand what it meant to move like the wind, feeling as if Bratis Continent had shrunk.

Sitting for too long made her butt sore, and the wind was quite strong, but fortunately, she had a down jacket. Suiting up with a motorcycle helmet and wrapping a scarf made it less uncomfortable.

It was just a bit boring because only Li Yu accompanied her on the first day; afterward, she was alone with no one to talk to.

Li Yu promised to bring her an mp3 player next time, so she could listen to music during the journey to pass the time.

However, the young girl still preferred when Li Yu sat in front, allowing her to openly cling to his back for the whole day.

They shouted to each other amidst the strong wind, and Miss Rabbit pretended not to hear what she wanted to hear, deliberately asking Li Yu to repeat it a few more times.

Yet, the Prophet of the Double Rest Sect wasn't a fool. After some repetition, he knew what the girl was scheming, but simply chose not to expose it.

Besides, what the Lady was most satisfied with during this trip was probably the food.

She initially planned to bring some dry rations for the road, but Li Yu said it wasn't necessary and later carried a package of instant food for her.

Inside were instant noodles, Eight Treasure Porridge, self-heating mini hot pots, various flavors of self-heating rice, along with biscuits and small bread, which made Miss Rabbit very happy.

Among them, the Lady favored Eight Treasure Porridge and Dali Garden Egg Yolk Pies, especially the latter, which Miss Rabbit could devour a whole box of in one go.

She was quite curious how cooks in Divine Country managed to bake such fluffy and sweet little bread.

Luckily, they arrived at Ganlin Castle five days later; otherwise, the young girl felt that the weight she had recently lost might quickly return.

Upon arrival, the Lady didn't waste any words and took advantage of Badur being unprepared to fly to his castle, setting fire to a patch of empty ground in front.

Subsequently, she also burned his stables, and not feeling satisfied, she went on to set fire to an unoccupied mill. Before leaving, she saw the flag on the castle was displeasing to her and burned it as well.

By the time the guards reacted and gathered, the Lady had already flown away, leaving behind only a letter for a noble-looking fellow there.

The man's name was Voban, one of Badur's knights, specifically responsible for guarding the castle. He picked up the letter and quickly read through it, his complexion immediately changing.

He also didn't waste any time and led people to fetch well water, putting out the large fire in front of the castle and rescuing the people within who were still shaken.

Badur, because he wasn't in the castle at the time, managed to escape unscathed; he had gone out early in the morning to collect rent in the countryside.

In general, noble families have tax officers responsible for such matters, but Badur preferred to do it himself.

Because when faced with people who didn't pay taxes on time, Badur could use them for amusement.

The merciful noble allowed his subjects to offset taxes with some special items, such as noses, ears, eyeballs, and other small trinkets, all quite popular.

Additionally, because he did not participate in the Long Neck River Battle, Badur retained most of his main force, plus he had already sided with those Wing Tribe people; his territory hadn't seen much of bandits or other riffraff.

Only dwarves took the opportunity to raise taxes; normally, such acts might lead to a loss of subjects, but now the Western territories were at war, making other places unsafe. Staying in Ganlin Castle meant not having to worry about being killed by bandits.

Those farmers were both angry yet did not dare express it.

Badur returned to the castle with his loot from that day—two ears and twelve teeth of varying sizes.

Yet before he could enter, he heard a piece of bad news, and Voban soon found him.

"Have the Wing Tribe people attacked?" Badur's face looked unsightly. "Haven't we already surrendered to them?"

"No, today it's a White Dragon, not an Azure Dragon nor a Red Dragon."

"White Dragon, is it the White Queen?"

"Exactly. It's said the dragon has betrayed those Wing Tribe people and converted to the Double Rest Sect." As Voban spoke, he also took out a letter and handed it over,

"This was left by the person this afternoon."

Badur received the letter with a furrowed brow, quickly read through it, and then his face showed a trace of disbelief, "That person is here for Pibo?"

The letter was unsigned, yet it clearly demanded Badur to release the imprisoned Pibo, or next time it would be more than just the empty ground and stables that would be burnt.

Badur's face turned pale. He believed he had done a good job of concealing his kidnapping of Pibo, but didn't expect it to be discovered.

Moreover, that wasn't all; the person even directly came to confront him for release, brazen like a robbery.

He couldn't even refuse; Junlin Tower had already been reduced to ruins, and Badur didn't think his Ganlin Castle was more fortified than the royal castle.

With both anger and fear in his heart, he crumpled the anonymous letter into a ball.

Seeing this, Voban said, "We can't let Pibo go; without him, you'd lose the chance to become Lord of Golden Valley. With your performance in the Long Neck River Battle and your prior reputation, the nobles of Golden Valley wouldn't allow you to rule this land."

"Nonsense, do you think I don't know that?" Badur impatiently waved his hand, "The problem is what we can do without delivering the person or unless you know some way to deal with that Dragon?"

"I can't deal with that Dragon." Voban said, "It's said their scales are impenetrable to blade or spear."

"Well, that's it then." Badur sighed.

"We may not be able to deal with that Dragon, but we might not be unable to deal with its owner." Voban blinked.

"Although the person wore strange clothes and a peculiar helmet, judging from their figure, it should be a woman."

"What do you mean, are you planning to arrange a few handsome Minstrels for her?"

"Minstrels can be arranged, but that's not the point. What I mean is, could the person possibly be Ireya?"

"What?" Badur was startled. "Weren't they from the Double Rest Sect?"

"If they were from the Double Rest Sect, there's no reason not to mention the sect in the letter."

Voban said, "And I asked those guards who arrived first; someone noticed the sword sheathed at her waist, its hilt was very distinctive, engraved with a lion's head."

Badur now thought of something too, "A Beast Claw of the Vespasian Family? I recall Edward II rewarded it to Ireya."
