Chapter 156: A Bold Plan
The last words of the Lark moved Ireya.
After all, the Lady was no longer in such dire need of money; her desire for wealth stemmed more from instinct, much like a crow's love for collecting shiny pebbles or an otter's habit of picking up sticks.
However, Miss Rabbit knew of Li Yu's dedication to missionary work. Her victory against Solomon and his army, despite the odds, was heavily reliant on the support from the Double Rest Sect.
If not for the Divine Punishment that decimated the Wing Tribe's forces on Saturday, and the many Italian Cannons Li Yu supplied her with—alongside the Black Dog Guards and Servants who charged into battle driving iron beasts—the Resistance could never have won that decisive battle.
Thus, the Lady also wanted to do something for Saturday and Li Yu.
However, an expedition to Ganlin Castle seemed unrealistic; the round trip would take at least two to three months, and they had already missed the spring sowing season. They couldn't afford to miss the winter wheat planting time as well.
Otherwise, there would be a severe grain crisis next year.
Miss Rabbit was still deep in thought when the White Queen finally had enough fun. With Li Yu returning to Bratis tonight, it flew back, ready to clock out.
Seeing the Dragon, Miss Rabbit's eyes suddenly lit up with a bold idea coming to her mind.
"I've thought of a way to rescue your husband!"
Lilania was still perplexed by the words, but the former intelligence chief evidently realized what the Lady meant and blurted out.
"No, it's too risky! You are now the ruler of the West, and everyone here depends on you. The West only recently regained stability, and if anything happens to you, it will quickly fall back into turmoil."
"I will be in no danger, and Prophet Merlin will accompany me. With him here, nothing in this world can harm me," the Lady confidently replied.
The former intelligence chief was momentarily speechless at the mention of Li Yu.
Lilania then asked, "What exactly is the plan you're talking about? Am I the only one who doesn't know?"
"I plan to make a trip to Ganlin Castle, without any troops, and have Badur hand over the man," Ireya said.
"But if you don't bring an army, why would Badur release him?"
"Because I have a Dragon," the Lady said with a slight smile, "I'm obviously not going alone; I'll be riding the White Queen to meet Badur at Ganlin Castle."
"If all goes well, I should be back in about ten days, without delaying other matters."
Lilania exclaimed in surprise, "You... you can ride a Dragon?"
Previously in the Golden Valley, she had only heard that the Double Rest Sect had apparently co-opted a Dragon from the Wing Tribe, but she didn't expect the Dragon to be so obedient and willing to be ridden.
The Lady held her head high with pride, "That's right, I'm the second Dragon Knight on Bratis Continent."
"Who's the first?"
"Prophet Merlin."
Lilania, who had almost lost hope, found the sudden turn of events surprising, and from the girl's words, it seemed like they could rescue Pibo in a few days, sparing him more suffering under Badur.
So she solemnly bowed to the Lady once more, "The Campbell Family will never forget your kindness; henceforth, the enemies of the Arias Family will be ours as well."
"Don't forget your promise to convert to Saturday," the Lady reminded.
"I can join the Double Rest Sect right now," Lilania was also forthright, "and you can have your vassals witness it."
Miss Rabbit was a bit surprised, "I haven't rescued your husband yet."
"Just for your willingness to risk your life on the journey to Ganlin Castle, I am willing to change my faith. Besides, I have long heard of Saturday's great name; undoubtedly, it is a True God, and quite possibly the only one on Bratis Continent.
"The Campbell Family is at a critical juncture of life and death, and we need the protection of a True God as well."
The Lady said, "Alright, Prophet Merlin should return tonight, and he can personally officiate your initiation."
Lilania had no objections whatsoever.
That evening, Miss Rabbit invited her to witness a miracle.
When Li Yu appeared out of nowhere on the grass beside them, the Lark also widened her eyes and could no longer maintain her composure.
She looked around, trying to find clues to uncover this magical mystery in front of her but found nothing nearby.
"My goodness," Lilania exclaimed, "how did you achieve this?"
Li Yu then noticed a stranger in front of him and spoke, "And you are?"
"I am Lilania of the Campbell Family, daughter of the Red Fox Theodore. It's a pleasure to meet you, Prophet Merlin. Your fame and that of Saturday are now known everywhere on Bratis Continent."
"Campbell, Campbell of the Golden Valley?"
"That's right."
The Lady then interjected from the side, "Madam Lilania's husband, the lucky Pibo, was kidnapped by a vassal nicknamed 'the Short One', and I plan to rescue him."
"However, before that, Madam Lilania wants to join the Double Rest Sect. Once we rescue him, the Campbell Family and their vassals and subjects will also convert to Saturday."
Miss Rabbit finished speaking in one breath, then eagerly looked at Li Yu.
The Prophet of the Double Rest Sect handed the bottle of cola he was holding to the girl, "Your request?"
"Not exactly; Madam Lilania herself wants to join the Double Rest Sect." The girl scratched her head, taking the cola, "But it's true that I promised to rescue the man."
"Where is the lord nicknamed 'the Short One'?"
"Ganlin Castle, situated northeast of the Golden Valley, quite a distance from here."
"So how do you plan to get there?"
"Ride the Dragon."
The Lady stealthily glanced at Li Yu's expression before adding, "It'll be fast; we'll intimidate him into handing over the man. If he was frightened by the Wing Tribe back then, there's no reason he wouldn't fear us. We should be back in less than ten days."
"The scales on a Dragon are hard, but they won't protect those sitting on their back," Li Yu remarked.
"So we're going together," the girl said.
Li Yu pondered, "Not again. Especially when I'm not around, it's best you don't ride the White Queen alone."
"Oh." Miss Rabbit kicked a small stone by her feet, looking somewhat downcast.
Until she heard Li Yu add, "But thank you this time."
The Lady's expression instantly brightened; she had waited so long to hear what she wanted to hear.
As for what Li Yu said earlier, it went in one ear and out the other.
The girl skillfully twisted open the cap of the cola, sipping it joyfully.
Li Yu then reminded, "Remember to brush your teeth after drinking before bed."
