Chapter 127: The Lady Lord's New Attendant
When Pearls arrived at Rock Snow City, the Lady Lord was already aware of the events in Lake City.
Outside Marier family's castle, numerous corpses were found, and with so many dead, the crows and vultures could no longer consume them, leaving them to rot and stink.
Recently, the population of crows and vultures in the western region has sharply declined, and not just crows and vultures, but chickens, ducks, sparrows, and even pigeons have been dying in large numbers.
Only now did people realize how terrifying the Divine Punishment delivered on Saturday truly was.
It was the wrath of a True God.
The Wing Tribe, ignoring warnings, invaded the western region and faced the God's Power, only to be disastrously defeated and forced to retreat.
Rumors have it that the commander of the Wing Tribe, Solomon, also died in Lake City, but Pearls didn't find his body in the castle, possibly taken away by survivors due to his special status.
This news is bound to shock the entire Bratis Continent.
But at this moment, Pearls couldn't be bothered with such matters; he had hesitated for a long time about Ireya's earlier invitation to join the Resistance Army, feeling the odds were low, and eventually didn't go to Green Field.
He pledged allegiance to the Wing Tribe, which became his most regrettable decision.
While he was confined in Lake City, unaware of outside events, he learned after leaving that Tristan was defeated by Ireya, who now occupied Rock Snow City and was supported by followers to become the new Lord of the Western Region.
Thus, Pearls became even more anxious, disregarding the care for his warhorse, urging Jack and the guards behind him to move faster.
Upon meeting the Lady Lord, Pearls realized he came empty-handed without a gift, feeling a bit embarrassed.
Fortunately, Ireya didn't forbid him from entering the city, and personally received him.
Recently, the young woman's reception process has become very familiar, as more people have come to seek her help. She delegated smaller lords to her aunt Alisa, while she personally met with significant figures.
The Marier family, entrenched in Lake City, clearly belonged to the latter group; previously, by pure family strength, they could have ranked in the top five of the western region.
But like many Noble Families, they had suffered heavy losses over the past two years, losing several key members and even changing their Family Head. This time, the Wing Tribe tormented them greatly.
Pearls watched the Lady Lord secretly; though he had corresponded with Ireya previously, they had never met.
He heard this Empire Valkyrie was divinely skilled in warfare, achieving consecutive victories, and was the Champion of a martial arts tournament, likely being an imposing woman with a powerful presence.
But upon meeting, Pearls was a bit disappointed; Ireya wasn't tall, nor particularly robust, though she was quite good-looking.
Pearls couldn't help but glance a few more times, noticing the young attendant behind the girl, glaring angrily at him.
Pearls felt baffled; the young man was unfamiliar, having no memory of meeting him before, nor understanding the source of his hostility.
Ireya noticed their mutual gaze and kindly introduced them.
"Abus, this is Pearls Sir, the City Lord of Lake City. Pearls Sir, this is my newly acquired attendant, Abus."
Abus was too young; despite rigorously training to become a knight, the Lady Lord wouldn't send him to battle.
Yet, during the previous battle with Tristan, Abus snuck armor and wore it, hiding his face with a helmet, and charged with the army, personally slaying two enemies.
Attempting to find new targets, he was knocked from his horse, landing on his head, unconscious.
Fortunately, Li Yu returned in time, controlling the giant dragon, scaring off the militia preparing to finish him, saving his life.
After his return, Miss Rabbit was furious, planning to ban him for two months, prohibiting practice, but was stopped by Li Yu.
Li Yu argued since the boy was determined to be a knight, he'd likely sneak onto the battlefield in future fights, rendering verbal bans useless. Better to keep him close under watch.
Abus's rigorous diligence was evident to all, deeply devoted to Saturday, and filled with gratitude to the Lady Lord who saved him, his loyalty unquestionable.
His teachers praised his talent, assuring with sustained efforts, he'd likely surpass his master, becoming a sword master.
The Lady Lord, yet to appoint an attendant, simply let Abus step into the role.
Pearls confirmed the young man was the Lady Lord's attendant, attempting pleasantries with a friendly smile, but Abus continued to bear hostile looks toward him.
Pearls finally couldn't resist, asking, "Have we met before?"
"No," Abus replied coldly.
"Have I offended you before?"
Miss Rabbit said, "You haven't offended him, but your father did; your father killed his parents, he was found by me in your Lake City."
"What?" Pearls was dumbstruck.
"Unfortunately, Judith died in the Dragon Ridge Mountain Range, or upon completing training, I'd certainly seek him for vengeance for my father and mother," Abus clenched his fists.
The Lady Lord patted his shoulder, "Condolences, I heard Pearls is unlike his father. His father aggressively captured 'Blood Moon Association' followers; Pearls advised him against harming innocents."
"Yes, yes," Pearls eagerly added, "I did disapprove at that time, though being merely the youngest son, my words carried little weight. My father, mournful for my uncle's death, became somewhat fixated."
Abus's hostile expression softened, stepping aside but keeping an eye on Pearls, one hand on his sword hilt, ready to act if Pearls threatened Ireya.
Though Miss Rabbit had her own gun and didn't need such protection, having a quick messenger handy and an assistant for chores wasn't bad.
"Alright, back to the main topic," the Lady Lord said, "What brings you to me?"
"I wish to join the Resistance Army, fight alongside you against the Wing Tribe's invasion, and after witnessing Saturday's Divine Power firsthand, I also wish to convert to the Double Rest Sect like you."
These had been thoughts Pearls devised beforehand, spoken without hesitation.
Yet, the Lady Lord poured two glasses of red wine, eyeing him playfully.
