Chapter 84: Journey to the Land of Water

After Ino took control of Haku's body, she made a hand gesture, and her shadow clone immediately released the Water Prison Technique.

The Mind Body Switch Technique had its drawbacks damage was shared. If Haku were to die from suffocation now, Ino's body would perish as well.

By relying on her own spiritual energy to hover between life and death, she was neither fully alive nor completely dead. This was a power akin to the Six Paths level, with the Sage of Six Paths being a prime example, as he bestowed power-ups to Naruto and Sasuke, and Obito, who remotely gifted Kakashi his eye.

Ino was far from reaching that level. Once her body died, her spiritual energy couldn't survive for long.

After taking control of Haku's body, she took a deep breath.

Haku's physical condition was even worse than Ino's. There were almost no signs of rigorous physical training. Strength? Ino clenched her fist to test it Haku's strength wasn't high either, barely at the minimum level for a 15-year-old male ninja.

"Hey, hurry up! Kakashi-sensei's fight is almost over," her shadow clone urged.

"Alright, alright! I'm trying," Ino replied.

Ino attempted to draw out the chakra within Haku's body.

Kekkei Genkai abilities were tied to the physical body. Orochimaru coveted Sasuke's Sharingan precisely because of this. Kekkei Genkai was a manifestation of physical energy, a result of ancestors frequently using a specific ability until it became ingrained in their bloodline. It didn't require the user's spiritual energy whoever controlled the body could wield it.

With a single thought, wind-attribute chakra and water-attribute chakra began to merge within Haku's body. Ino raised her left hand, and after four or five seconds, a faint mist of cold air appeared in her palm.

"A ratio of 4 parts wind to 6 parts water?"

"No, it needs to be more precise. Hmm... 3.5 parts wind, and the water isn't exactly 6.5 either?"

Haku didn't need to master advanced water or wind techniques. Thanks to genetic memory, he could naturally fuse ice-attribute chakra.

If Ino wanted to develop her own ice attribute, she would have to start from scratch. She would need to elevate both her water and wind techniques to a high level and then fuse them in the exact ratio to create ice-attribute chakra.

In the mental world, Haku showed no signs of anger or fear at having his body taken over. He knelt in a very feminine manner in the corner of the mental space, speaking calmly.

"That's an impressive technique. Are you planning to replace me?" he asked bluntly.

Ino, now highly skilled in the Mind Body Switch Technique, was multitasking sensing the chakra fusion ratio while chatting with him.

"Of course not. I'll knock you out in a bit, and then I'll return to my body. I'm just curious about your chakra. Don't mind me," she replied.

Five minutes later, true to her word, Ino knocked Haku out in the mental world and returned to her own body.

"Tsk, tsk. Even the way he faints is so... peculiar," Ino's shadow clone commented on Haku's unconscious posture.

Ino opened her eyes and dispelled the shadow clone. She glanced over, and indeed, Haku's posture was quite strange. This young man, who loved wearing women's clothing, had his legs tightly crossed, his left shoe fallen off, leaving one foot bare. His shoulder-length hair, wet from the Water Prison Technique, clung to his body. His face bore a mix of confusion and helplessness, with faint tear stains at the corners of his eyes. To the uninformed, it might seem like he had suffered some bizarre ordeal rather than being defeated in battle.

Ino waved to the two spirited boys in the tree, signaling for them to come and watch over Haku while she took a rest.

Naruto and Sasuke kept an eye on Haku, while Ino rested in the tree.

She closed her eyes, and her system finally quantified the requirements for unlocking "Ice Release."

Ninjutsu: 10, Stamina: 9, Hand Seals: 10, Water Release: Level 5, Wind Release: Level 4. After meeting these conditions, she would need to blend chakra in a ratio of 3.45 parts wind to 6.55 parts water, plus one skill point, to unlock Level 1 Ice Release.

Ino was still lacking in some areas. She wasn't in a hurry to master Ice Release, so she noted these values for future reference and closed the system panel.

On the other side, the battle concluded with Kakashi and Asuma emerging victorious. Fighting two against one, capturing Zabuza alive wasn't particularly difficult.

"Release my subordinate. Take my head and exchange it for whatever bounty you want. He's just a child and has nothing to do with this!" Zabuza growled fiercely, seeing Haku lying pitifully on the ground, unconscious.

Asuma explained the deal between Konoha and Kirigakure. Upon hearing that the two villages were more interested in Haku than himself, Zabuza secretly breathed a sigh of relief but also sneered, "You'd better keep a close eye on me. If I escape or die, Haku won't survive alone."

Kakashi nodded dismissively, "Thanks for the reminder. We'll keep that in mind."

Before long, Haku regained consciousness. Seeing Zabuza captured, he offered no resistance.

Soon after, Shikamaru, Choji, and Sakura arrived with Raiga Kurosuki and Ranmaru in tow.

There was no heartfelt reunion between old acquaintances they weren't familiar with each other to begin with. Now, as fellow prisoners being escorted to Kirigakure, there was even less to say.

Haku and Ranmaru, however, seemed to hit it off. Both came from Kekkei Genkai families in Kirigakure and shared similar experiences one was "Zabuza's tool," while the other was to become "Raiga's eyes."

Before long, they were chatting like old friends, with Haku addressing Ranmaru as "sister" and Ranmaru calling Haku "big sister."

Half an hour later, they discovered they were both male, leading to an awkward silence. Sakura looked on in disbelief, while Ino nearly burst out laughing.

Kirigakure, located in the Land of Water, was situated overseas. To reach it, one had to cross a vast sea.

The sea was dotted with numerous small islands, remnants of what was once a continent. During the battle between Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki and Hamura Ōtsutsuki against their mother, Kaguya Ōtsutsuki, the land was shattered.

The continent sank into the sea, leaving only a few peaks that became scattered islands across the waters.

Some of these islands were inhabited by descendants of the ancient civilization, and a few even had small, secluded ninja villages survivors of the Ōtsutsuki family's great war.

During the Warring States Period, powerful clans like the Senju and Uchiha sought to dominate, while the Yamanaka clan chose to hide in a secluded valley. Other clans, unwilling to be drawn into the conflict, fled overseas with their families. After Hashirama Senju founded Konoha, these reclusive clans joined forces with the locals to establish Kirigakure.

In recent years, Kirigakure had suffered greatly under the machinations of Obito Uchiha. After the death of the Fourth Mizukage, the village adopted a policy of isolation, focusing on recovery. Outsiders were not welcome, and the village kept to itself.

The hegemony over the seas was relinquished, with the northern waters dominated by the ever-powerful Kumogakure.

To avoid conflict with Kumogakure, the Konoha team took the southern route to the Land of Water.
