Chapter 83: Chapter 83: Ino vs. Haku
Chapter 83: Ino vs. Haku
Chidori shattered an ice mirror into pieces, and without stopping, it continued to destroy one mirror after another, turning them into powder under its buzzing resonance.
Sasuke shouted as he chased relentlessly.
Amidst the fluttering fragments of ice mirrors, Haku could be seen shifting left and right, his movements almost ghostly.
Realizing he couldn't shake Sasuke off, Haku decided to change his strategy.
With a wave of his right hand, dozens of ice mirrors formed in three layers, surrounding the trio from all directions.
"Naruto-kun, I really don't want to fight you," Haku said softly.
Seeing Naruto's cheeks puff up, as if he was about to unleash his S-rank verbal jutsu, Ino quickly intervened with her own technique.
"Leave this kunoichi to me! Don't interfere! Water Release: Great Water Wave!"
Naruto wanted to say that Haku wasn't a woman, but seeing Haku's feminine attire, he was at a loss for words. His verbal jutsu was effectively cut off.
The sheer force of the Great Water Wave caught the attention of Kakashi, Asuma, and Zabuza, who were fighting in the distance.
Zabuza was baffled. What the hell? Who's using the Great Water Wave? He could have used a technique of that scale too, but he hadn't bothered. Against stronger opponents, it wouldn't make a difference, and against weaker ones, why waste chakra when a single slash would do?
Kakashi, using his Sharingan to sense the chakra intensity from afar, sighed inwardly. Having a lot of chakra really is something else.
Ino's Great Water Wave wasn't on the level of Kisame's ability to create lakes out of thin air, but it far surpassed what an average ninja could achieve.
The overwhelming surge of water erupted from her, spreading in all directions.
The tightly enclosed Demonic Mirroring Ice Crystals were thrown into disarray by the rushing water. Sasuke and Naruto leaped through the gaps, retreating to a nearby tree to observe the battle.
Crack, crack, crack The crisp sounds of shattering ice echoed continuously as Haku's mirrors were destroyed one after another by the relentless waves.
Haku, holding a senbon needle, darted between the remaining mirrors. Each time he moved, he used his chakra to create new ice mirrors, while Ino continued to control the water, relentlessly pushing forward.
Haku's Ice Release slowed the water's movement, and the force of the Great Water Wave gradually diminished, losing about 30% of its initial power.
Haku, still gripping the senbon, took advantage of the weakened momentum. He emerged from one of the mirrors, his arm flicking as he hurled the needle.
Though it seemed like he was simply moving between mirrors and throwing senbon, his incredible speed created the illusion of dozens of Hakus attacking simultaneously.
"Watch out!" Naruto shouted from a distance.
Ino slammed her hands on the ground. "Earth Release: Earth-Style Wall!"
A wall of earth rose from the ground, adorned with the Q-version faces of Team 10, with Ino's face prominently placed in the center. From afar, the wall bore a striking resemblance to the Hokage Monument.
While her Earth Release lacked finesse, Ino's chakra reserves far exceeded Kakashi's. The wall encircled her, blocking the barrage of senbon.
Senbon, typically used by medical ninjas for acupuncture, were far less lethal than kunai or shuriken. Despite Haku being a man, his physical strength wasn't significantly greater than Ino's. The senbon merely left small dents in the earth wall.
High-speed movement took a toll on both chakra and stamina. Seizing the moment when Haku paused to throw senbon, Ino gathered water-natured chakra in her chest and abdomen, her hands forming seals rapidly to increase the pressure.
Standing atop the earth wall, she aimed at the ice mirrors and unleashed her next technique. "Water Release: Water Severing Wave!"
A silver stream of water, pressurized to an extreme degree, shot out in a thin line. In a tenth of a second, it shattered one ice mirror and continued to cut through the others in a clockwise motion.
Haku, who was adjusting his breathing, was startled and quickly shifted positions.
Ino had already created a shadow clone earlier, and now the clone used its sensory abilities to locate Haku among the mirrors.
"Three o'clock direction."
"Now at nine o'clock, the middle mirror."
"Behind us!"
It was a game of chase. Haku's speed was impressive, but Ino's Water Severing Wave was even faster.
While Haku had to constantly move between mirrors, Ino only needed to tilt her head slightly, and the silver water line would follow, slicing through the ice.
It was like one person running while another stood still, firing a machine gun. The question was whether the runner could outpace the bullets.
Haku had never faced an opponent like Ino before. Most would panic seeing their ice mirrors shattered one after another, with the water line closing in.
But Haku was a tactical genius.
While moving at high speed, he formed a one-handed seal and used the water from Ino's Great Water Wave to his advantage, unleashing his own technique.
"Water Release: Thousand Flying Water Needles!" The surrounding water transformed into countless thin needles, raining down like a storm toward Ino, who was still controlling the Water Severing Wave.
The moment Haku attacked, Ino locked onto his exact position.
The shadow clone, using its sensory abilities, erected a tall earth wall in front of itself. The dense barrage of needles struck the wall.
This was a genuine ninjutsu, far more lethal than the earlier senbon.
When the Thousand Flying Water Needles subsided, Haku noticed that the earth wall was gone, and the Ino behind it had vanished into a puff of smoke.
Not good! Both were shadow clones! Just as he was about to move, he felt Ino emerge from the ground beneath him.
Ino smiled brightly. "You've got nice legs, sis, but you lose! Earth Release: Headhunter Jutsu!"
She grabbed Haku's ankle and yanked him downward.
"You're the one who's lost. For Zabuza-sama, I won't lose!"
Haku had been setting up his own trap. The fragments of the ice mirrors shattered by the Great Water Wave and Water Severing Wave were scattered around. In an environment filled with glass-like shards, these fragments were nearly invisible, but they still contained traces of his chakra.
As Ino activated the Headhunter Jutsu, Haku gathered the scattered fragments, reforming them into a complete ice mirror. Using his Ice Release, he leaped into the air, pulling Ino out of the ground with him.
Mid-air, he thrust a senbon toward Ino's heart.
Poof! Ino disappeared in a puff of smoke.
Haku turned sharply, only to see Ino spreading her arms, a massive wave of water rushing toward him.
"Water Release: Water Prison Jutsu!"
Haku was strong, arguably the strongest among the peers Ino had faced so far, but even he couldn't break free from the Water Prison from within.
Ino created a shadow clone to maintain the Water Prison, then formed hand seals, aiming at Haku.
"Mind Body Switch Technique!"
Her consciousness, wrapped in chakra, surged into Haku's mental world, quickly gaining control of his body.
She wanted to understand how Ice Release worked and what she was missing to unlock this kekkei genkai.
