Chapter 78: Purification of the Melter
"Purification? My friend, you're getting a bit arrogant."
Ulysses was astonished upon hearing Richard's thoughts.
Although he had already witnessed Richard's strength, it was still within his realm of understanding.
"That Melter is estimated to have the strength of at least a Sixth Level, why would two Fifth Levels like us provoke it?
Your own furnace is not a guarantee."
"Hey, you mentioned that Melter is trapped within the formation," Richard sneered. "We're just going over there, at most it will send a Fire Spirit to harass us.
If you're scared, you can leave first. Once I've purified that Melter, we'll meet in the third dimension."
"Bah! Who are you looking down on?"
Ulysses was infuriated by Richard's words. He had fled before because he truly couldn't help, and this time he was unwilling to go because he didn't want to take the risk.
But the way Richard put it made him seem utterly spineless.
"Fine, I'll lead you the way. As for a pitiful creature that is sealed, why should I fear it?"
"Haha, my friend, that's the spirit," Richard suddenly laughed loudly.
"The comfortable life in the rear has somewhat dulled your courage. We are living in a time of war; without active advancement, all that awaits us is elimination!"
Richard's eyes were filled with ambition. Knowing that the creature which had annihilated the Civilization Alliance still lived raised a sense of urgency within him.
If that creature was truly like the Titan described, the Curse Crown that went to hunt it down might not succeed in slaying it, and even its own safety couldn't be guaranteed.
As for the creature feeding on war, it struck a nerve in this age.
Wizards could never abandon war.
After so many years with so many deaths and resources consumed, could they really make peace with the Galaxy Mayflies because of an unverifiable rumor?
And the Galaxy Mayflies would certainly not give up the war. Why would they make peace with the Wizards when the situation favored them?
As for the gods and the abyss, these two civilizations even more were unlikely to make peace.
The irreversible corruption of the abyss had caused countless World Masters of the Gods Civilization to lose their home worlds, so these divines would never make peace with the abyss.
And the abyss itself was a war-crazed entity. They would only continue to revel in war and then await the creature's revival, paving the way for a massive bloodbath.
Regarding other civilizations within this conglomerate, Richard was unaware of their conditions, but he guessed they were also engaged in war.
Otherwise, the Wizards and Galaxy Mayfly would have already started hiring Mercenaries.
In this starry sky already ignited by the flames of war, the revival of that creature was inevitable. What Richard could do was only become stronger, strong enough to end the war, strong enough to remain calm and composed even if the creature revived.
"Let's go, take me to see that Melter!"
"Fine, follow me!"
...
This space was the space of the Furnace Men, and according to their habits, their Melter was always placed at the highest point in the world.
In this space, the highest point was a mountain peak in the center of the continent.
Richard stood in the air, gazing into the distance. The sky was covered in dark clouds, and a towering mountain peak was crimson all over. A flesh-grown Melter was suspended atop the peak, with flames gushing from its mouth like a stream flowing down the mountain walls.
Amidst the flames, countless Furnace Man skeletons bowed towards the mountain top, resembling a scene from hell.
"It seems the Furnace Men are somewhat out of their depth," Richard murmured to himself.
The Shepherd Star Titan might have been annihilated as a clan, but they managed to seal the flesh of that creature, subduing it as if it were a dog. On the other hand, for the Furnace Men, apart from not being able to move freely and manipulate the energy of this space, their Melter was virtually unsealed.
Even the limitation on free movement could be replaced by the Fire Spirit for this Melter.
Suddenly, a crisp bird's cry came from the Melter.
Within the radius of several dozen kilometers, the fog was instantly scattered by this cry.
A creature resembling a Black Phoenix flew out of the Melter, carrying a terrifying energy wave.
Just as Ulysses had said, the Fire Spirit evolved again after experiencing death.
This time, the Fire Spirit broke through the Fifth Level boundary, successfully advancing to the Sixth Level.
Feeling its powerful body, the Fire Spirit gazed at the Melter with an extremely complex expression.
It was a twin entity with the Melter, possessing wisdom while the Melter held strength.
It had attempted countless times to sever its connection with the Melter, but each time the connection was cut, it lost consciousness. When it came to, it found itself back within the Melter.
In the past, it thought the Melter had done something to it, but after experiencing death, it understood that it could not be separated from the Melter.
Once the connection was severed, it would die, only to be reborn in the Melter.
Its gaze swept over the Furnace Man skeletons on the mountain peak, feeling both angry and helpless at heart.
Its abilities were ineffective against this corpus and the mountain peak. Using other methods was insufficient to shake the seal.
The Black Phoenix sighed internally, "Alas, when will I truly be free."
Suddenly, it turned sharply to look behind itself.
In that direction, the figure of a man and a bird were rapidly approaching.
"They actually didn't leave? Very well! Since you haven't left, stay and keep me company!"
With a flap of its wings, the sky suddenly became engulfed in a sea of black flames.
If the world's space weren't stabilized by a Space Anchor, this sea of flames would have been enough to burn the entire sky into oblivion.
Amidst the fire, the Black Phoenix did not hurry to attack but began to contemplate how to capture them alive.
Since it couldn't leave, it would be a waste to kill these two creatures.
Stay to keep it company...
A familiar feeling suddenly surged into Black Phoenix's heart. Instinctively, it spread its wings and flew, narrowly avoiding a large shadow.
Boom!
The hammerhead hit the ground like a meteor, causing the earth to shake. A bottomless crater now marred the previously flat terrain.
Black Phoenix looked at the giant wielding the hammer, its body trembling involuntarily.
This fellow... is he a monster?
After all, this is its sea of fire.
Richard lifted the hammer, his gaze sweeping past the Fire Spirit and fixing on the Melter atop the distant mountain.
He could sense that this Fire Spirit and the Melter at the mountaintop were essentially one being.
Like a soul and its body.
"A peculiar creature, but it doesn't matter."
Richard did not swing the hammer again, even though he could indeed kill this Fire Spirit. But killing it would be useless and could make it return to its main body, creating more trouble for him.
He decided to go directly to burn the Melter; then the Fire Spirit would be like water without a source, completely inconsequential.
With this thought, Miracle Fire suddenly ignited on Richard, a flame rushing straight towards that Flesh Melter.
Boom!
An amorphous mass of writhing flesh flew out of the Melter, colliding with the Miracle Fire and bursting into a myriad of sparks.
Black Phoenix glimpsed the golden flames, and some fragments of memory flashed before its eyes.
In those fragments, it didn't look like its current self. The Melter bore no flesh, only exquisite patterns, and it wasn't like its current self either; back then, it seemed to be a god?
It suddenly looked at those Furnace Man skeletons on the mountaintop that it could never burn.
In the ancient past, these people worshipped it in this manner too.
"Spirit of the Melting Furnace, awaken; you've been confused far too long, it's time to return to the right path."
An ancient voice suddenly echoed in Black Phoenix's mind as a small figure stood up on the mountaintop.
"...Priest?"
"Spirit of the Melting Furnace, awaken; the one from the future has appeared. You should aid him in completing his mission!"
The priest's voice resonated like a great bell in Black Phoenix's soul, and ancient memories began to surface, finally recalling its mission.
A million years ago, the priest said to it, "Spirit of the Melting Furnace, we've been tainted, and the flame has extinguished.
But the extinction of the flame doesn't mean the end of the mission.
Spirit of the Melting Furnace, you must survive to help that future individual fight those Evil Demons."
Boom!
Sparks turned into a sky full of golden flame.
The Miracle Fire burns everything, even flames serve as its fuel.
The flesh on the Melter continually regenerated, and from the Melter devoid of flames, a new life broke free.
It was an amorphous mass of flesh, with a thousand eyes, a thousand mouths, and countless limbs extending all around.
From this mass of flesh, Richard sensed a frightening radiation of life energy.
"Sixth-level extreme? Is it really this strong?"
Richard looked at that flesh, the golden fire on him burning even more fiercely.
A sixth-level extreme without rules, he could fight it!
But the next moment, the voice of the Fire Spirit rang in his ear.
"Later one, share a piece of your Supreme Furnace Fire with me."
Richard turned back in astonishment, seeing Black Phoenix already shedding its guise formed by mimicking Ulysses, transforming into a one-eyed Furnace Man.
"Oh, looks like the Furnace Man is well-prepared."
Richard threw a ball of Miracle Fire to the Fire Spirit, but the alien creature tried to stop it, only for Richard to smash it back with a hammer.
Before the terrifying mass of the Boundary Annihilation Stone, the monster's sixth-level extreme body was also sent flying.
Fine runes appeared on the Titan's Hammer, absorbing the monster's flesh into the hammerhead, transforming into a rich life energy that flowed along the handle into Richard's body.
Evidently, this hammer was specially designed for these unique monsters.
On the other hand, after receiving the fire from the Furnace, the Fire Spirit had now transformed into gold.
The Fire Spirit looked at Richard, its voice solemn, "Later one, being chosen by the Supreme Furnace indicates you are qualified to become the Son of the Melting Furnace.
Here, in the name of the Melter, I bestow upon you the identity of the Furnace Fire Chosen One."
As it spoke, a flame floated from the Fire Spirit, leaving a mark on Richard's forehead.
"Fire Chosen One, the path of Furnace Fire still exists, go seek it."
With those words, the Fire Spirit's body suddenly disintegrated, while a fierce Miracle Fire ignited within the Flesh Melter.
Under the burning of the Miracle Fire, the flesh on the Melter gradually turned to ashes, revealing its original appearance.
Soon, the flesh on the Melter completely dissipated.
The countless Furnace Man skeletons on the mountaintop also ceased their worship.
Richard saw a small figure on the mountaintop slightly bow to him, and then, along with countless bones, turned to ashes that drifted in the air.
"The path of the Furnace Fire..." Richard murmured to himself.
"Does it refer to the dimension of the Furnace Men?"
