Wizard: I Can Refine Everything

Chapter 49: After the War

Clearing out the remnants of the Abyss is no easy task; the Abyss has eroded this world for over five hundred years, leaving traces in too many places.

These locations must be checked one by one until the last piece of abyss moss disappears.

And those remaining Abyss Demons are also troublesome creatures.

After their stronghold was destroyed and the net path was sealed, almost seven-tenths of the organized legions of Abyss Demons were wiped out by Richard's divine intervention. But precisely due to the destruction of their organization, these demons all turned into rogue creatures.

The Abyss pollution zone covers nearly half the world, and the demon purging is destined to be a protracted war.

Fortunately, Richard created Ben.

Although Ben is an illiterate World Master, his life level is undeniably Forth Level. After becoming a Heroic Spirit, Ben is also a Divine-level Heroic Spirit.

With him around, Richard doesn't need to chase demons in the wilderness like catching rabbits.

...

Boom!

A spear forged of Thunder burst in the sky, transforming into countless tiny Thunder Arrows. Under this rain of arrows, a group of Abyss Demons at a dead end launched their final charge.

In front of them, a platoon of goblin soldiers lined up like infantry, jointly holding a cannon-like weapon that clearly featured flesh parts.

"Ready, fire!"

The goblin captain gave the order, and beside him, a squad of goblins with type-seven flesh cultivation simultaneously pulled the trigger.

Bang bang bang…

An energy wave emanated from the barrels, and iron balls the size of baby fists instantly turned the charging demons into blood mist.

After the rain of Thunder Arrows, the goblins adeptly switched to Flame Sprayers—they were all carrying a metal canister, which contained what they called Dragon Breath, a concentrated Fire Element.

Fierce flames spewed from the goblins' horn-shaped nozzles and instantly incinerated the demons' bodies to ashes. Subsequently, the goblins bowed to the figure draped in Holy Light in the sky, who reciprocated the gesture before transforming into Holy Light and flying away into the distance.

"Retrieve the ammunition, prepare to return."

The goblin commander issued the order, then took the lead in collecting the metal pellets they fired from among the ashes.

The long-lasting war had instilled thriftiness in the goblins; although the pellets were somewhat deformed, re-smelting them would still produce good bullets.

A strong wind blew, dispersing the dark clouds in the sky, allowing the gentle sunlight to warmly envelop the battlefield.

"Ha, the Sage is watching over us. Praise the sun, praise the Sage." The goblins offered their praise to the sun.

It had been a year since the end of the final battle, and the Abyss pollution had been significantly reduced. The dark clouds that once covered the sky, mixed with a large number of Abyss Spores, had mostly been cleared, making sunlight—once a rare sight—now frequently visible.

The reason the goblins praised the sun was simple: they believed Richard's Divine Country was not the stars, but the sun.

Richard's display during the last battle using the Sun's Vision was not a quiet affair; many priests witnessed the awe-inspiring scene.

Regarding such changes, Richard was uncertain whether to let them be or to clearly declare otherwise. But one thing was sure, his Holy Light could now become as blazing as the sun, and his Fire Element summoning abilities had also strengthened.

It seems that after gaining the title of Sun God, Richard's abilities had changed somewhat.

After recovering the pellets, the purification squad began the final cleansing. They aimed the Flame Sprayers at the Abyss Plants on the ground, burning them at an even pace to ensure that no Abyss Spores remained on the land surface.

According to plan, after their cleanup, follow-up teams would perform a secondary purification to ensure every root of the Abyssalized plants was completely destroyed.

Otherwise, the land might undergo Abyss Transformation again.

After emptying the Fire Element from their canisters, the team set off on their return journey. Several dozen kilometers behind them, a newly established resource point had been completed.

These resource points, resupplied via AAirships, provided ample resources for the purification squads in the wilderness.

The AAirships were a new invention after the war ended, reportedly created by the Sage, capable of running without boilers and steam, and able to carry dozens of tons of goods into the sky with just stones.

They were now traversing a plain, making their movement exceptionally effortless.

The resource point resembled a church-like building, and the purification squad arrived just in time for meal distribution.

The rich aroma of meat made every member of the purification squad's mouth water.

"Haha, Fran, you guys arrived just in time, the beef stew just finished cooking."

A goblin with an anti-Abyss mask hanging from his belt greeted the purification squad familiarly; judging by his attire, he also seemed to be part of a purification squad.

"Locke, I timed it perfectly," the commander of the purification squad replied with a grin.

As they queued for food, every member at the resource point received a small bowl of ox-head soup.

The goblin named Locke crouched on the steps outside the resource point, carefully sipping his beef stew. Beside him, Fran looked at his beef stew and suddenly took out a yellowing photo from his pocket.

"Locke, I've heard that back when the Sage still walked among us, factory workers could drink this stuff."

Locke glanced at him, finished the last bit of stew in his bowl, and used a slice of black bread to soak up every remaining drop.

"Why bring that up all of a sudden?"

Fran caressed the photo, which portrayed him, a female goblin, and four goblin children smiling.

"Oh, nothing much. Now that the Sage has returned, perhaps we too can enjoy such a life. If they're lucky, they might even have days when they can eat their fill every day."

Locke was silent for a moment. He and Fran were old acquaintances. He knew that Fran's wife and children had all turned into Abyss zombies during an attack. According to the Abyss handling regulations, Fran didn't even see their ashes.

Locke patted Fran's shoulder, speaking in the tone of someone who's been there before.

"Fran, don't always dwell on the past. The Abyss disaster is over, and life must move forward. Adopt an orphan—or if you hate kids, get a dog. Kids can be annoying. Give yourself something to lean on, there's still a long future ahead."

Fran watched his retreating figure. Locke, like him, lost his parents and wife in a suicidal Abyss attack.

A year ago, Locke was like an Evil Ghost, always thinking about taking more Demons down with him. But in the final battle, Locke didn't die. His subordinates saved him but died on the battlefield. Before dying, one entrusted his daughter to Locke.

Since then, the Evil Ghost Locke disappeared.

Fran lowered his head, looking at the photo, carefully placing it back in his chest.

"...Look forward, White, can I really look forward?"

Miracle City, Wise Man's Church.

"...The first Abyss cleanup has progressed thirty percent. If all goes well, in five years, the Abyss pollution will be controlled to a harmless range. The detailed situation is here, please have a look."

In the luxurious study, Frank looked at the information in his hands, quietly listening to the subordinate's report.

"Alright, I understand."

After Ben was eroded by the Abyss, Frank and Tai'er became the de facto rulers of the Church. And due to the greater need for machinery, Tai'er was once the uncrowned Pope.

But when Tai'er's research went astray, and his student Ansen was uninterested in power struggles, the Acting Pope of the Miracle Sect became Frank.

Now that Ben has been transformed by Richard into a Saint, Frank's Acting Pope title naturally dropped the "acting," becoming the second Pope of the Miracle Sect.

Knock, knock, knock.

"Come in."

"My Pope, why haven't you approved the industrial relocation yet?"

Frank looked up at the visitor, seeing the red-robed Tai'er angrily looking at him.

"Tai'er, you should bow when you see the Pope. Do I need to teach you this?"

Frank ignored Tai'er's outburst and calmly corrected Tai'er's etiquette mistake.

Upon hearing this, Tai'er instantly flew into a rage.

"You flesh worm! If it weren't for the Abyss pollution, this position..."

"Bow."

"I..."

"Are you questioning our Lord's decision?"

"...Yes, my Pope."

Watching Tai'er bow to him in anger, Frank felt that the exhausting year was finally paying off.

"Alright, go back. Your industrial relocation plan won't work; it's too large-scale. You proposed building thirty-two factory cities at once, are you serious? It's post-war now, some military factories can be shut down, and the priority should be on developing civilian industries."

"Thirty-two isn't large? Back in the Mechanical Court, thirty-two..."

"Leave. If you disagree, you can go to the Secret Realm and find our Lord. This is the fundamental direction he set: to prioritize raising the standard of living so that the population can quickly grow."

"You..."

Tai'er pointed at Frank, unable to say a word and could only leave the office in a huff.

After sending Tai'er away, Frank finished reading the remaining two documents and then went to the balcony of the study. Through the balcony, Frank could overlook the entire Miracle City.

It was currently Dusk, and under the setting sun, many goblin workers were dismantling the Anti-Air Guns left from the Abyss War period.

As the core city of the goblins, Miracle City's defense strength was naturally the highest among many cities.

In the shadows of those splendid buildings, who knows how many gun emplacements were hidden, so much so that after a year of dismantling, they still hadn't been fully removed.

"The feeling of war being over is truly wonderful."

Frank watched the playing children in the streets, expressing his heartfelt sigh.

Although he knew, this was all temporary.

Returning to the desk, a plan from Technology Bishop Ansen appeared before Frank.

In the plan, the goblins would construct a colossus nearly ten kilometers in diameter over the next fifty years. The purpose of building this colossus was expressed in a very religious language:

"To spread our Lord's Radiance."

Sighing, Frank signed his name at the end of the plan.

A gentle breeze blew, scattering the documents on the desk. Frank picked them up, organized them, and placed them neatly on the pile of processed documents.

The first page of the document bore the plan's name—Floating City.
