Chapter 32: The Script Is Ready
The arrival of war was so sudden and unexpected.
Less than a day after the Mechanical God King awoke, Tai'er and Frank received the news of the war's beginning.
The great Mechanical God King affirmed that now was the best time to kill his corrupted brother.
In this regard, the one person and one bird in the Secret Realm only felt this person's boldness was extraordinary.
"Should we say, as expected of the natives?" Richard listened to Tai'er's message, feeling that this Mechanical God King was somewhat groggy from sleep.
Who starts a fight as soon as they wake up? At the very least, observe for a few more days. Not to mention, the first line of defense is not yet complete, and the Great Wall is full of gaps.
Starting a war at this time truly shows no regard for goblins.
However, Richard could somewhat understand his thoughts.
Ulysses had observed the situation in the Royal Capital over these two days, and Richard and the others knew the state of the Flesh God King. Right now, it was indeed the best time to kill that corrupted Flesh God King.
If they could quickly slay the Flesh God King, then the gaps in the defense would become irrelevant.
Even the native World Master could clean up the Abyss Demon Army without the aid of a Great Demon.
But could he really accomplish this?
Richard expressed doubt about this.
Although the origin of a whole small world could enhance the Mechanical God King to a level as powerful as a Fifth Level creature, he was facing an Abyss Blessing.
According to Ulysses, the Abyss Blessing greatly enhanced an Abyss Demon's combat power, an enhancement not inferior to the world origin. If these two enhancements canceled each other out, then this Mechanical God King would face the corrupted Flesh God King.
The corruption of the Abyss greatly enhanced the physical body of the corrupted, allowing them to use the powers of the Abyss. This enhancement was so strong that even the deities of the Gods Civilization had to risk being corrupted to obtain it.
Therefore, Richard did not think this Mechanical God King could win.
Moreover, even if he could win, how would he face the Great Demon about to break the seal?
The location of the Supreme Sacred Mountain was no secret to the high ranks of the two Royal Courts. Upon learning that the God King was corrupted, Ulysses went to see the Supreme Sacred Mountain. The result was... the seal on that mountain had been breached. Whether it broke or not was up to the Great Demon.
From the current situation, the Great Demon most likely held the same thought as Richard, preparing to play the role of a fisherman benefiting from a fight between the sandpiper and the clam.
Survival of the fittest and the law of the jungle—this is the survival law of the Abyss Demon. Under this law, Abyss Demons would naturally kill their own kind to devour their strength.
Right now, without an Abyss Dominator to restrain it, the infected Flesh God King, after being corrupted, would surely include the sealed Great Demon in its menu.
No other reason, Abyss Infected lack the inheritance of the Abyss, namely the Abyss Evolution Tree. Devouring a Great Demon would also aid his evolution.
Conversely, the sealed Great Demon similarly viewed the corrupted Flesh God King as a precious medicine for returning to its peak. Devouring a World Master was enough to compensate for the energy lost in breaking the seal and corrupting the Flesh God King.
If he could devour the Mechanical God King along the way, his power might advance even further.
He would not pass up such a good opportunity.
However, the sealed Great Demon did not know that his fisherman's benefit scheme had, with Richard's appearance, turned into a praying mantis stalking the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind.
While he coveted the bodies of the two God Kings, Richard and Ulysses also coveted him.
They had already prepared a script, in which this Great Demon played the most important role.
...
A mighty surge of energy fell from the sky, like a divine cast of apocalyptic light, instantly engulfing more than half of the Flesh King.
In front of this fierce energy, even the Flesh King was so fragile, that it was half annihilated in an instant.
The Mechanical God King stood in the air, his figure of more than five meters small compared to the giant Flesh King, like an ant. But behind this ant, twelve giant Mayfly Cannons faintly appeared in the Void, slowly gathering strength for the next strike.
An ancient wound deprived the Mechanical God King of the capacity for a normal massive true body, but in return, he gained the ability to control ancient relics.
Those crystals seemingly growing from his body were the control centers for the ancient relics.
Buzz!
Another energy surge fell.
But this time, the Flesh King had a reaction.
The buildings eroded by flesh, under the control of the corrupted God King, instantly transformed into a dome-like structure.
On the dome, billions of mouths emerged from the walls, chanting blasphemous words.
The originally lengthy spell was completed in an instant.
In the next moment, billions of mouths merged into a maw filled with fangs, devouring the entire energy surge.
"My brother, you are truly heartless."
A soft voice emanated from the Flesh King, and upon hearing it, the face of the Mechanical God King turned grim.
Anger ignited in his eyes, and with a wave of his hand, tens of thousands of Crystal Floating Cannons emerged from the air. These floating cannons enveloped the Flesh King, creating a massive slow field within the Mayfly Cannons.
"Corruption, don't speak to me in my brother's tone!" the Mechanical God King said coldly.
He pointed toward the Flesh Capital, and a huge energy surge flowed out from behind him once again.
Under the interference of the delaying force field, the large mouth on the flesh dome was pierced by the energy surge, sending a massive world-ending beam directly towards the palace from which the voice emanated.
In the next moment, the voice of the Flesh King grew somewhat frantic.
"Damak! You damned cripple! Giving the ancient heritage to you is a massive waste!"
The Mechanical God King remained silent, just pointing coldly once more.
Buzz!
But this time the energy surge failed.
Because a shadowy red figure flew out from the palace.
"Damak, do you truly believe that the influence of those remnants would allow a cripple like you who relies solely on ancient heritage to defeat me?"
The Mechanical God King did not answer, just quietly observing the brother before him, now greatly transformed.
The Flesh King no longer had the appearance of a goblin; his height exceeded ten meters, and his massive body boasted muscles robust enough to move mountains. Dark red bone plates and bone spikes wrapped around his body like armor.
His face was still handsome, wide black wings spread out behind him, lending him a touch of divinity. But the black snake tail behind him brought a hint of a strange beauty.
"A fallen angel?"
Thousands of miles away, Ulysses looked at the Flesh King and spoke with a serious tone.
"Fallen Angel?" Richard asked somewhat confused, "Some kind of evolution path for Abyss Demons?"
"Yes, it's a very rare demon form. Abyss demons in this form are highly skilled in spiritual attacks. In your terms, every word he speaks would equate to mind interference."
"And the troubling part is, this demon is quite proficient in abyss spells."
"Abyss spells?"
"It's something similar to your witchcraft, except casting such spells doesn't require a magic model but rather chanting abyss prayers."
Images of the nest core regeneration flashed in Richard's mind, and he casually asked: "Are there runes or similar things in the abyss?"
"There are, but it's best not to touch those runes. Once you memorize them, the influence of the abyss will cling to you."
At those words, Richard instinctively thought of the runes during nest core regeneration. The next moment, a seductive sound arose in his ear.
Though Richard couldn't make out the content of the sound, he grasped its conveyed meaning.
It urged Richard to embrace the abyss.
"Wow, that's so immediate?"
Richard was shocked and immediately let go of that memory. Once forgotten, the alluring sound seemed to lose its signal, stopping at once.
Ulysses noticed Richard's odd behavior and squinted his eyes, saying, "Richard, you didn't memorize those runes, did you? I need to clarify for you, those runes aren't like the ones you've studied."
"The abyss runes are essentially visible projections of abyss rules. If you study those things, you will definitely be tempted by the abyss."
"My friend, I can't dictate your choices. But I advise you to think carefully and restrain some of that curiosity. The world is vast, and there are many things you can study. Don't touch those dangerous items."
Ulysses spoke earnestly, which made Richard scratch his head awkwardly and smile, saying, "Got it, got it, I won't touch them."
Ulysses said nothing further; his eyes lit up again with a gleam and he shifted his gaze toward the battlefield thousands of miles away.
...
In the Supreme Sacred Mountain, an equally handsome dark red demon with black wings stood unmoving, seeming almost dead.
Ten thousand years of imprisonment left this great demon's form shriveled; once mighty arms now weak as straw, and his former protective bone plates and spikes now sparse like rotten wood.
The purification within had long been repurposed by the great demon for another use.
His wings were wide, but dry and featherless like an old raven.
All signs indicated that this great demon had reached the end of his rope.
But these were mere illusions to deceive any searchers. Only Ulysses knew that to determine whether an abyss demon was truly at the end of his rope, one must check his heart.
Abyss demons have two hearts; if they truly are at the end, only one heart will beat.
Inside this great demon's chest, both hearts were beating slowly yet resolutely.
Suddenly, the great demon opened his eyes. His gaunt face lit up with joy, and he whispered, "Natives, what use is imprisoning me? Ultimately, you still embrace the abyss.
Brotherly conflict... haha, what a beautiful scene."
With that, the great demon stood and lightly touched the mountain wall that had confined him for millennia.
A loud "boom" sounded as the solid mountain wall shattered instantly, opening a path to the outside.
