Witches: Starting as a Lord Marrying a Wife

Chapter 72: Chapter 72: The Arrival of the Snow Spirit

Rosalia walked through the darkness.

"The Church," she muttered, her eyes flashing with cold resolve.

She had just received news that one of her witch companions, hiding in Blackleaf Ridge, had been exposed and was now in the hands of the Church.

For witches, the Church was their eternal nemesis.

They were simply individuals who wielded extraordinary powers—how could they possibly be servants of demons? Compared to the nobles who thrived on exploitation and oppression, they were the ones more fitting to be tied to stakes.

Suddenly, she looked up. In the distant sky, a black sparrow flew swiftly toward her. She extended her arm, and the bird landed gracefully.

"A letter from Anne?"

Rosalia retrieved the message tube, pulling out the letter.

The letter was written in riddles, comprehensible only to witches.

Her eyes skimmed over the contents quickly, and her expression turned to astonishment.

The Frostwolf Duke had become a sorcerer—and not just any sorcerer, but one with an extraordinary ice elemental talent.

Despite being only a first-tier sorcerer, he could already manipulate ice elements to create solid ice from thin air.

Rosalia's expression grew complex.

The Frostwolf Duke was now a sorcerer, and Anne was even suggesting that their group of witches consider relocating to Frostwolf Ridge.

No matter what others decided, Rosalia had already made up her mind. She would never go to Frostwolf Ridge.

Her resolve hardened as she placed the letter back into the tube. The black sparrow swallowed it and took flight, heading toward another destination.

While she wouldn't go to Frostwolf Ridge, she wouldn't stop others from doing so. She had a more pressing matter: rescuing her captured companion in Blackleaf Ridge.

---

At Frostwolf Castle, David continued waiting for news from the witch organization.

In the meantime, his training never wavered.

However, instead of hearing from the witches, he received an unexpected report about a captured earth witch in Blackleaf Ridge.

"An earth witch?" David's brow furrowed slightly.

Such witches commanded earth elemental power, making them ideal for agricultural and construction projects. If he could gain her cooperation, it would greatly aid in transforming Frostwolf Ridge's infrastructure.

Unfortunately, this witch was now in the Church's hands. With the arrival of the Holy Maiden and the Holy Light Knights in the Northlands, the situation had grown significantly more dangerous.

The danger wasn't due to strength—David knew he could handle the Holy Light Knights' deputy commander, Hillman, a fifth-tier earth knight.

The real concern was the political implications. If the Church discovered his involvement, it could lead to trouble.

"Duke," the Gray Wolf Knight said, his face filled with worry.

David nodded, tapping his fingers on the table. Rising from his chair, he retrieved a map of the Northlands.

Blackleaf Ridge lay to the west, within the territory of Viscount Blackleaf, a third-tier knight.

David contemplated for a moment before deciding to investigate personally. If the Church had sent significant forces, he would simply observe. If not, he could intervene as an "ice sorcerer."

---

At Blackleaf Ridge, Viscount Blackleaf watched the departing Holy Light Knights with relief.

The discovery of the witch had been an accident, and he hadn't expected the deputy commander of the Holy Light Knights to come personally.

Still, as long as the knights left his territory, his task was complete, and he would receive his reward from the Church.

But as he returned to his castle and entered a shadowy corridor, a figure darted past. A thin line of blood appeared on his neck, and he collapsed.

Rosalia completed the assassination and disappeared into the shadows without giving the nearby guards and attendants a chance to react.

Reappearing on the castle's rooftop, the shadow witch watched the Holy Light Knights in the distance, her face somber.

The deputy commander, an earth knight, was far beyond her ability to confront directly. She could only wait for nightfall, hoping for a slim chance to rescue her companion.

---

David arrived at Blackleaf Town shortly after.

Learning that the deputy commander was an earth knight, David narrowed his eyes. As long as Hillman himself wasn't present, any fourth-tier knight would be within his capability to defeat.

The Church's motives for sending the Holy Maiden and the Holy Light Knights to the Northlands were clearly malicious. If he could eliminate a fourth-tier knight, it would be a satisfying blow.

---

Night fell.

The deputy commander of the Holy Light Knights was cautious.

He ordered the group to set up camp and ensured that the captured witch was securely guarded.

Rosalia had waited for hours but couldn't find an opening to act within the brightly lit camp. Her heart sank.

The Holy Light was the nemesis of shadow magic, and under these conditions, her abilities were completely neutralized. A direct confrontation with an earth knight was impossible.

Reluctantly, she prepared to abandon her rescue attempt.

Just as she turned to leave, a cold wind swept through the camp. A figure shrouded in snow and ice appeared.

"A snow spirit?" Rosalia froze in shock.

The Holy Light Knights noticed the intruder as well.

Deputy Commander Richard felt the energy emanating from the snow spirit and his face darkened. It was a powerful fourth-tier magical creature.

Whoosh—

The wind and snow intensified, sweeping through the camp.

Crack! Crack!

Wherever the icy wind passed, the ground froze solid.

Richard quickly activated his Holy Light-infused combat energy, creating a shield to block the encroaching frost.

But the snow spirit advanced with the storm, unleashing its power to command the surrounding ice elements. In moments, the camp transformed into a frozen wasteland. Everything within was encased in ice, creating a terrifying domain of frost.
