Chapter 10: Not supposed to feel this way
Xu Wei didn't panic easily.
He could lie his way out of a fight. He could talk circles around angry customers. He could survive an actual body swap without losing his mind.
But right now?
Right now, he was panicking.
Because Zhihao was looking at him differently.
It wasn't obvious. No one else would notice. But Xu Wei felt it.
The small pauses before Zhihao spoke to him.
The way his gaze lingered for half a second longer than before.
The way silence between them wasn't cold anymore.
And the worst part?
Xu Wei was looking back.
It started with a simple mistake.
One night, Xu Wei walked into the study, expecting to find Zhihao working late as usual.
Instead, he found him asleep on the couch.
Xu Wei froze.
He had never seen Zhihao sleep before.
The man was always composed, always in control. But here, in the dim light, with his tie loosened and his face relaxed…
He looked almost human.
Almost tired.
Xu Wei hesitated.
He should leave. This wasn't his business.
But then Zhihao shifted, brows furrowing slightly, and Xu Wei reacted without thinking.
He grabbed the spare blanket from the chair and carefully draped it over him.
For half a second, his fingers brushed against Zhihao's sleeve.
Xu Wei flinched back immediately.
His heartbeat was louder than it should have been.
This wasn't supposed to happen.
He wasn't supposed to feel anything.
So why did it feel like he had just done something dangerous?
The next morning, Zhihao walked into the dining room with the blanket still draped over his shoulders.
Xu Wei, already at the table, nearly choked on his coffee.
Zhihao sat down, completely unfazed.
Xu Wei stared.
Yichen glanced between them, suspicious. "Since when do you sleep on the couch?"
Zhihao sipped his tea. "I was working late."
Xu Wei swallowed. "Right. Work. Totally normal."
Xinyi blinked at him. "Are you okay?"
"Yep!" Xu Wei said, voice much too high. "Super okay. Nothing weird here."
Yichen squinted.
Zhihao turned a page in his newspaper, completely calm.
Xu Wei burned holes into his coffee mug.
This was bad.
Very, very bad.
Because for the first time since waking up in this body—
Xu Wei wasn't sure if he wanted to leave.
And that realization terrified him.
