Chapter 79.2
Snacks With Fried Tofu, Bacon, And Cheese
The drinks the three of them were having were all different, but none of them were particularly complaining about the snacks. There might be some pairings that work better than others, but it felt like as long as it was tasty, that was what mattered. By the way, Ali was drinking a cloudy sake that resembled doburoku, while Frau had a dry wine. Brook, as usual, was sticking to fruit wine only. There was one person whose appearance didn’t match at all with the contents of their glass, but it was best not to dwell on that. Preferences vary from person to person.
“I made this with leftovers, did it suit your taste?”
“Yeah, it’s delicious.”
“No problem, Yuuri.”
“Thank you.”
Their three different responses relieved him, as they were all positive. Well, these three didn’t usually voice their likes and dislikes, so Yuuri wasn’t worried. Watching the fried tofu gradually diminish, Yuuri smiled, feeling glad. The heavy atmosphere from earlier seemed to have lifted just a bit.
Leaving the three of them drinking, Yuuri returned to the kitchen to tidy up. He needed to wash the utensils he had just used. Yuuri had no idea what adventurers were like, nor did he know the hardships the instructors were bearing. He figured there was no way he could truly understand. After all, their positions and everyday lives were too different.
However, he thought that perhaps there was support he could offer because of this, which was why he acted today. At the very least, if they had returned to their base, he wanted them to relax and recuperate. Essentially, as a househusband, he could do little else but handle household chores, but he still hoped they could eat something delicious and smile. As the cook of the base, he was striving daily. Just not in the right direction for a high school boy.
“…Hey, what’s that?”
“Whoa!? Lelei?”
“It looks super delicious!”
“…Sorry, Yuuri. I couldn’t hold her back… I mean, water, give me water…”
“Kurresh, are you okay? Lelei, don’t force him to drink too much; he’s not as strong as you.”
“I’m not forcing him to drink!”
“…I got careless because it went down so smoothly.”
Kurresh grumbled as he drank the offered glass of water. Lelei, who didn’t look like she was drinking at all, had a slight hangover aura about her. Kurresh, often keeping up with the heavy-drinking Lelei, still managed to know his own pace. Lelei was also the kind of person who was fine as long as she could drink happily, so she wouldn’t push it on Kurresh.
But the reason this was happening today was that the alcohol Lelei brought out had an oddly smooth taste. It was mild and went down easily. However, it had a decent alcohol content, so Kurresh, who wasn’t that strong with alcohol, ended up feeling sick. So, well, it probably wasn’t Lelei’s fault.
“Ah, damn, I really let my guard down.”
“Should I add lemon to the water?”
“Please.”
“How about honey?”
“Just a little.”
“Understood.”
In response to Kurresh’s request as he sat on a chair in the kitchen, Yuuri prepared water with lemon and honey added. Sipping the refreshing, sweetened water, Kurresh groaned. Something felt off in his mouth, perhaps. It seemed she wanted to clear her head with the lemon water.
Now, while watching this heartwarming exchange quietly until the end, Lelei grabbed Yuuri’s hand as he was about to return to the dishes and smiled brightly. It was the kind of smile a child gives when asking for candy. Probably not wrong.
“So, what’s that over there that the three of them are eating?”
“…Snack?”
“I want to eat it too!”
“…I can’t help it then. What about you, Kurresh?”
“I can’t. If I eat anything now, I’ll seriously throw up.”
“You weakling!”
“It’s your fault for being such a heavy drinker, idiot.”
As Lelei poked Kurresh’s forehead while laughing, Kurresh retorted with a weary groan. Watching the two of them, Yuuri shrugged and headed towards the fridge. He thought he might as well prepare a portion for Lelei and, just in case, one for Kurresh too.
By the way, as a result of the apprentice group, who were left out of the food, begging to try it, it would end up being served as lunch the next day, but Yuuri wasn’t thinking about that at all.
