Chapter 319: Chapter 319: Luo Brings Back the Rebirth
"'A prophet,' huh?" Shi He wrinkled her nose slightly, clearly dubious.
To her, it sounded like just an excuse. Given the unpredictable nature of quantum theory, how could one possibly predict the future? Hence, the concept of parallel universes came to be. What He Kui spoke of wasn't predicting the future but rather a version of events from another parallel universe—a timeline unaffected by his interference.
And He Kui had no intention of making them believe. He just offered a faint smile in response.
"I'll head to the radar room. You two take charge of the Liberator's data collection and analysis."
"And stay clear of Creuset. I'll keep looking for evidence."
"Be careful!" Both girls spoke in unison, alarmed by He Kui's intent to pursue proof against such a dangerous adversary.
"Don't worry; I'm not planning to act recklessly."
Now that he'd secured the Liberator, he wouldn't need to depart for some time. Still, with Aegis, he could influence events from a distance.
"Oh, and don't forget about the nanotechnology project, or Councilor Juole will be after you again."
"…Got it," He Kui sighed.
The electromagnetic pulse nano-weapons were a challenging endeavor. But with the Atlantic Federation close to developing an anti-neutron jammer, he had no choice but to accelerate his own advancements.
With that, He Kui returned to the radar room.
"Aegis~ Where have you been?" Elena's voice greeted him, brimming with excitement. She clutched her tablet, which displayed images of the recent lunar battle. "Our allies were amazing! They actually took down Ptolemaeus."
Elena's face beamed with joy, and her enthusiasm was contagious.
"Yeah, it means we don't have to worry about the Atlantic Federation bombing us anymore!"
"True." Although the lunar campaign wasn't ZAFT's main objective, He Kui couldn't help but feel a touch of joy as he watched her excitement.
Just then, Luo entered, bringing a carefree smile. "Ah, Miss Aegis, you're finally here!"
"Luo, how's the design work going?" He Kui asked, pleased to see his unofficial "free laborer."
"Sorry, I got sidetracked with the lunar conflict. I was out scavenging the battlefield," Luo replied sheepishly.
"No problem."
"But look what I found!" Luo's eyes sparkled as he held up his tablet, displaying parts of the Rebirth Gundam's limbs scattered in the Junk Guild's hangar.
"Each component is larger than most standard mobile suits. Looks like it belongs to some special model," Luo said with excitement.
He Kui could barely contain his surprise. How did Luo manage to stumble upon this?
The Rebirth Gundam, true to its name, could eject its limbs for quick replacement mid-battle—provided the core unit remained intact. Though this feature hadn't been utilized in the recent skirmish, ZAFT wasn't foolish enough to supply their stolen Gundam with additional parts.
"Are you sure it's okay to keep this? It looks like parts of a cutting-edge model."
"No worries!" Luo replied confidently. "The Junk Guild rules are clear—anything found post-battle belongs to us."
He Kui resisted a pang of envy. This "trash" amounted to billions in value—yet Luo seemed to stumble upon it effortlessly.
While ZAFT would undoubtedly attempt to reclaim it, Luo wasn't wrong about the Junk Guild's policy. It ultimately came down to a question of power and political ties.
Besides, such large components were almost useless without a nuclear-powered mobile suit. The Rebirth's core unit required three nuclear engines to function, given its enormous energy demands. Armed with beam cannons and a mirage colloid system, it was capable of powerful stealth attacks—features not yet unleashed on the battlefield.
In some ways, Rebirth was even more troublesome than Freedom.
But seeing those parts, He Kui had an idea.
"Luo, could I have one of the leg parts?"
He Kui was eyeing one of the colossal beam sabers attached to Rebirth's legs. With some modifications, he could repurpose it for stealth attacks—a powerful ace up his sleeve.
"Miss Aegis, you know the specifics of these components?" Luo's eyes lit up with hope. He had been struggling to understand the internal design.
"I can make some educated guesses," He Kui replied with a knowing smile.
The oversized beam saber, enhanced with a mirage colloid system, could serve as an effective lance for his current mobile suit. Adjusting its output would prevent rapid energy depletion and provide a tactical surprise.
As for claiming all four limbs, He Kui knew his limitations. The Liberator's power source was insufficient to sustain that level of equipment, and such ambition could draw unwanted attention.
"Alright, I'll give it to you!" Luo agreed, but not without some nudging from Shuli, who had appeared at his side.
"On the condition that Miss Aegis helps us decode the parts," Luo added, his hearty personality winning over everyone's goodwill.
"Of course," He Kui replied, satisfied with the exchange. Since the Atlantic Federation would reverse-engineer Rebirth anyway, sharing some non-critical design insights with Luo posed little risk.
Besides, with Luo's uncanny luck, maintaining a friendly relationshi
p was always wise.
"Alright then, Miss Aegis, let's get started without delay!"
