When "God" Decides To Start Over

Chapter 149: The Temple

"What's going on?" Li Xiu noticed that Chu Jun's expression was off and quickly asked.

Chu Jun stammered, "I sense... I sense... there are many S-Class Demon Spirits here..."

"Here? Outside the courtyard?" Li Xiu looked around but didn't find anything.

"No... just... right here..." Chu Jun pointed to the hall they were in, then pointed to the courtyard outside, and said incoherently, "Here... and outside... they are all demon spirits... many... many... can't discern the level... nor the names..."

Hearing Chu Jun say this, Li Xiu felt a chill in his heart. His first reaction was that there were many demon spirits they couldn't see, right now in the hall and courtyard. For all he knew, an invisible demon spirit might already have its mouth wide open, exposing bloody fangs, ready to swallow his head at any moment.

Thinking of this, a shiver ran down Li Xiu's spine, and he unhesitatingly summoned all the demon spirits he could.

Various demon spirits circled them, encasing him and Chu Jun in the center.

The two of them kept scanning the eerie hall with their eyes but saw nothing and heard no sounds.

"How many demon spirits are there? Can you sense their positions?" Li Xiu's eyes scanned constantly, and his ears perked up, but there was still no discovery, not a trace.

This made Li Xiu even more uneasy. He trusted Chu Jun; Chu Jun had never let him down. If Chu Jun said there were many demon spirits, then there surely were. But where were those demon spirits?

"I don't know, so many, too many to count, they seem to be everywhere..." Chu Jun sensed again and again, but the result was the same each time.

"So many... too many to count... everywhere..." Li Xiu seemed to think of something, and his face turned grim: "I fear we really are in trouble this time. Use your Light Energy Protection, whatever you do, don't stop."

Although Chu Jun didn't understand why Li Xiu said this, he immediately followed Li Xiu's instructions.

With a blood-red glow, the Light Energy of White Lotus appeared on Chu Jun, making his body emit a faint glow.

Li Xiu's body also emitted a white glow, which was the Light Energy of the Forbidden Spear.

"What's going on? Did you discover something?" Chu Jun asked.

"Many demon spirits, everywhere, but invisible, there's only one possibility; those demon spirits are tiny like bacteria, so small our naked eyes can't see them. I suspect those people weren't bitten to death by demon spirits; rather, they might have been slowly consumed by those invisible tiny demon spirits." Li Xiu shared his speculation.

The thought gave Chu Jun goosebumps. If it's true as Li Xiu said, then before they used Light Energy Protection, those invisible demon spirits might have entered their bodies, possibly gnawing at their internal organs right now.

"No, I didn't sense any demon spirits inside our bodies." Chu Jun realized a flaw in Li Xiu's hypothesis.

If demon spirits had indeed entered their bodies, he should have sensed them, but he didn't feel any presence of demon spirits within his body.

"If there are none in our bodies, it means those tiny demon spirits cannot directly invade us, or invading us might pose a threat to them. But they must have had an opportunity to invade, otherwise, those Trial Takers who entered before us wouldn't be dead." Li Xiu mused.

"What is that opportunity?" Chu Jun couldn't figure it out.

"I don't know either." Although Li Xiu speculated that those tiny demon spirits couldn't temporarily harm their bodies, he still maintained his Light Energy cautiously; it wouldn't hurt to be careful.

He withdrew his demon spirits. Those spirits were no longer of any use; no matter how strong they were, they couldn't battle demon spirits as small as bacteria.

Li Xiu's gaze fell on the corpses in the hall again, re-examining the bite wounds on the bodies.

After watching for a while, Li Xiu suddenly moved closer, examining more carefully, his expression growing increasingly peculiar.

"What did you find?" Chu Jun came over and looked for a while but didn't notice anything amiss.

"It seems there was an error in my previous speculation. These Trial Takers weren't consumed by those tiny demon spirits." Li Xiu said solemnly.

Upon hearing this, Chu Jun let out a long breath of relief. If he had to choose, he would rather face large and undefeatable demon spirits than confront enemies so small he couldn't even see them.

The unknown is most terrifying, and invisible things are more likely to invoke fear.

"It's good that they're not. Then how did they die?" Chu Jun asked.

"They were bitten to death. I initially thought they were bitten by demon spirits, but after a closer look, it seems the bites were not from demon spirits. The wounds look more like they were bitten by human teeth..."

Chu Jun's skin tingled instantaneously, his teeth chattering as he forced a smile and said, "Impossible, right? How could people bite people? And bite them like this, have they gone crazy?"

"They might have gone mad. Just now my point was not that those tiny demon spirits don't exist, but rather they might have acted like a virus, infecting humans and turning them into monstrous creatures, cannibalizing one another, leading to the current situation..." Li Xiu slowly explained.
