Chapter 49: Chapter 49: The Sixth Dragon Ball Secured
Hong Kong, China.
John Wick arrived at the address provided by the Assassin Alliance, stopping in front of what appeared to be a building under construction or renovation.
Confirming the location, he stepped inside.
Facing the security guards, John said in Mandarin:
"I need to see your boss—Xu Xialing."
The guards looked him over, then one spoke into his radio:
"Someone wants to see the boss."
"Roger that."
The guard looked back at John:
"Take the elevator."
John nodded and headed toward it. The elevator ascended before stopping at a certain floor.
A red-haired man opened the doors and greeted him:
"Night Demon, welcome."
John raised an eyebrow.
"Do we know each other?"
The red-haired man pulled out his phone.
"John Wick, you've got a public bounty of $22 million. That's impressive, brother."
John frowned but said nothing.
The man opened his arms for a hug.
"I'm Jon. Welcome to the Golden Dagger Club."
Caught off guard by his exuberance, John still returned the hug briefly.
"I've come to see your boss, Xu Xialing."
Jon nodded.
"Come with me."
As they walked, John noticed the facility was filled with individual boxing rings.
Jon explained:
"We're a global, multi-platform club. We host underground duels through the dark web, where countless clients place bets."
"Believe me—with your current fame, you'd generate insane betting traffic."
John shook his head.
"I'm not interested."
Jon sighed.
"Shame."
He led John into a guarded room. Inside, around a central desk, stood several heavily built security guards. A young woman sat calmly at the desk.
John stepped forward.
"Hello, Xu Xialing. I'm John Wick. I need something you have."
Xu Xialing regarded him with interest.
"The legendary Night Demon of New York's Continental. You're fetching a steep bounty lately."
"But I'm curious—how did an excommunicated Continental assassin end up connected to the Assassin Alliance?"
Though she'd been contacted by the Alliance, she still didn't understand the connection.
John thought a moment.
"It was divine guidance."
Xu Xialing raised an eyebrow.
"What do you want?"
John answered:
"You possess a sphere with six stars—a Dragon Ball. I want it."
"Its market value once reached $2 million. I'm willing to pay double."
Xu Xialing wasn't surprised. She had seen the bounty on John Wick and knew Komora's contract involved a Dragon Ball, though not the same as hers.
She had studied hers—it was nearly indestructible, impervious to bullets. Yet its purpose remained a mystery.
"I don't know what it's for, but you've scoured the world to find these. It must be important."
"Mind telling me why you want it?"
John expected the question and had prepared a cover story since the Elder incident.
"It's part of my trial by the Assassin Alliance. Collecting all seven Dragon Balls is required for their protection. They're the ones who released them."
Xu Xialing examined him carefully.
"So they went to war with the High Table for you. I've heard the Table took heavy losses."
"You really do stir things up."
She opened her desk drawer and pulled out the six-star ball, tossing it lightly in her hand.
"You can buy it—but what do I get in return?"
John immediately understood this wasn't about money.
"What do you want?"
She thought for a moment.
"A promise. Like the blood-oath contracts of the Continental."
"When I need your help, I want you to act—no hesitation."
She initially wanted a formal blood contract, but with John now excommunicated and a member of the Assassin Alliance, she wasn't sure those contracts held any weight. Better to ask directly.
As for the Dragon Ball—she'd just picked it up on a beach because it looked nice. She only realized its value after seeing it in John Wick's bounty description.
John frowned. A personal favor was the hardest debt to repay. Much of his current suffering had begun with giving Santino one such oath.
"Can we negotiate?"
"I'll fight a match in your arena—my popularity alone would attract a huge crowd on the dark web."
Xu Xialing looked tempted. But knowing John's connection with the Alliance, and if he passed this trial, his future favor might be even more valuable.
In the future, she might need the Alliance's power—and John could be her key.
She shook her head.
"No. I want the favor. A promise."
John sighed.
"No room to bargain? I can offer more money."
Xu Xialing smiled.
"John, that thing's useless to me—but to you, it's priceless. It's your lifeline."
John paused. She was right.
"Fine. I agree."
Her smile widened.
"Give me a token."
John nodded and handed her an Assassin Alliance-exclusive bullet.
