Chapter 586: Finally A Map
Our numbers had been cut in half and if you ask me, things weren't really going well.
It doesn't look like we're getting close to the heart of the facility either and we're already down so many meat shie-- Err… I mean… We're down so many people.
The Pirate Lord kicked down the metal shutter, the door crumpling like paper before we filed in after him.
The cavern turned back into a large corridor and it looked like it was some kind of storage facility with more metal shutters on either side of the corridor.
What made it eerie was the fact that every single one of those metal shutters had been torn open and judging by how the metal shutters cave outwards, it was caused by someone or something inside those rooms breaking out of them.
Was this facility researching some kind of dangerous alien creatures as well? Do we also need to worry about them?
We continued our advance cautiously, making sure to check each of those storage rooms to make sure they were definitely empty before moving on.
Curiously, each of these storage rooms were just empty rooms with bare walls and floors and nothing else inside.
Just what were they storing inside?
I might have thought they were meant to store more military vehicles like the Spider Tank from earlier but seeing that the holes made in the metal shutters were in the centre of the door and looked like they were blown open instead of being rammed open with something close to the ground… I don't think that was the case here.
The corridor eventually led to another corridor that was leading downwards at an angle, most likely to bring us down to the floor below.
We continued our advance downwards until we reached the floor below, finding ourselves in some kind of lobby.
Just like the other rooms we've been through, this place was pretty much a wreck with broken furniture, bullet holes and burn marks from laser weapons scattered throughout the lobby.
At this point, I'm pretty sure the entire facility had gone through some kind of battle at one point and it all ended at the lift at the garage.
The counter at the end of the lobby was still intact and an idea flashed in my head.
I went over to the counter and sure enough, there were some computer terminals that were still intact, though they weren't powered at the moment.
"What are you trying to do?" The Pirate Lord asked.
"There should be some kind of map stored on these terminals right? If we can get this up and running, we might be able to get a map out of the terminal."
"How do you intend to power it then?"
I turned my gaze towards Ries and my Maochatte immediately skipped up to me enthusiastically.
She took one look at the terminal before she reached towards her backpack to pull out a cylinder looking thing which took me a moment to recognise it was something like an energy cell.
Ries then took out some tools which she used to disassemble a part of the counter, exposing the mechanical parts under it.
She then dug around until she found a black cable which she then cut open to expose the wires inside it and connected it to the energy cell.
There was a spark before the terminal came to life, the screens flickering on and showing a login screen that was requesting for a password input.
Obviously something like that was not a problem for me as I connected my Codex to it and proceeded to hack it, unlocking the terminal easily.
"Oh? You managed to hack it that easily? Are you some kind of hacking genius?" The Pirate Lord mused.
How the heck did he manage to get behind me so quickly and silently with that giant Power Armour of his?
Well, at least he didn't attribute it to my Codex or else these pirates might get some ideas to steal it… Even if they aren't able to use it.
I ignored him and simply searched through the terminal to look for the information I wanted, which was a map of the facility.
"There it is~" I grinned, the file in question appearing on the screen the moment I searched for it.
I downloaded the file onto my Codex before I projected it into the air, enlarging it so that everyone could see.
The map was a three dimensional projection that showed the entire mountain with boxes inside the mountain that represented the rooms.
Since it was a static map, it did not show us our current position but it was a simple thing to trace our route by finding the entrance at the base of the mountain before following the path that we took.
Eventually, I traced my finger to the large box in the centre that should be the lobby where we were standing in right now.
And what do you know, I was right about this place being the lobby since it was labelled as that on the map.
"Well, what's our next step?" I asked, looking at the map.
The Pirate Lord circled around the projection of the facility to inspect it silently before pointing at a single large cube at the base of the mountain that was the only place that did not have a label.
"This. This place is where we need to go."
I raised an eyebrow at him, "What makes you think so? I mean… I guess it's kind of suspicious that this is the only room that isn't marked but it could be for a variety of reasons, right?"
"Just look at the path you need to take to get to that specific room."
I narrowed my eyes at the map and tried to trace the only path that led to that specific room.
It involved first going to the back of the lobby, then passing through several rooms marked as 'security checkpoints' and then even a 'decontamination chamber' before going through a 'central security hub' and then zigzagging through a long path of corridors before reaching one more 'security checkpoint' and finally entering that unmarked room.
Even if you want to be generous about it, that's a lot of security you have to go through just to get to that unmarked room. No matter how you spin it, this definitely means there's something hidden there that they don't want anyone to see.
Now that we have the map though… It seems like we didn't even need to come here in the first place to get there.
If we had gone to the second floor instead of the top floor with the Spider Tank earlier, that route would have led us directly towards the 'decontamination chamber' without needing to go through all those security checkpoints.
One thing though…
"You still think this place is supposed to be a paradise?"
"I'm pretty sure the map is not complete. That room must lead to somewhere else, maybe underground, that would lead us to that place."
I really doubt it but hey… I still have yet to see any treasures so far so maybe that room is where those pirates are storing the treasures?
I don't really care about this planet being that paradise planet in the first place anyway so these pirates can go ahead and stay here if they want while I'll just leave with some of the treasures.
"Fine then, I suppose we should start moving?" I suggested, nodding in the direction of the door that the map showed.
Thankfully, the doors and corridors seemed to have been made to be bigger than normal so the Pirate Lord could still walk through them without much trouble.
We continued to keep our guard up as we moved through the halls, reaching the first security checkpoint that was shown on the map.
Luckily, there wasn't anything there aside from some deactivated scanners and doors so all we had to do was just walk through the checkpoint and we would be on our way.
There wasn't even an automated turret that was watching that checkpoint either.
The second checkpoint was the same and the third checkpoint had more extensive security measures but since the power was turned off, everything was deactivated. Did the pirates in this facility shut off all the power after they knew we were here? Since the lift was functioning properly after all… And the lights in that cavern had also turned on…
Unless those places had their own power supply or something? Or maybe they are simply controlling where the power in this facility went to.
We reached the 'decontamination chamber' and it turned out to just be a hall that had scanners and some pipes lining along the ceiling which I wasn't sure what they were for.
But as we were walking through, Lea suddenly called out to me.
"Mistress… Someone came through here recently… Very recently…"
I turned back and found her staring at the ground to the side.
There, laying on the ground and half hidden amongst some dirt, was a cigarette butt that was still smouldering.
Guess there must be people up ahead…
