We Married in a Flash After One-Night Stand

Chapter 3: Chapter 3 Signing the Agreement

Xia Zhi returned home with He Jinnan. Their large flat covered hundreds of square meters, decorated in an understated yet luxurious fashion.

"Have a seat," He Jinnan told her. "Would you like something to drink?"

Xia Zhi replied, "Lemon water would be good."

He Jinnan soon came back with the water and sat across from her.

Seeing her seeming a bit nervous, he smiled warmly at her and said, "Don't be nervous, let's just chat casually." As he spoke, he helped her twist off the bottle cap.

After taking a sip of water, Xia Zhi's emotions eased, "Your place is quite big."

He Jinnan laughed it off indifferently, "Bought it last year."

As he spoke, he took a bank card out of his pocket and handed it to her, saying, "This is my salary card, I'm handing it over to you. In addition, I'll transfer a sum of money to you every month via WeChat for living expenses and your personal use. As for the wedding, I don't have any particular demands. We'll go with whatever you prefer. Does this work for you?"

He paused for a moment, "Right, if there's anything I've overlooked, feel free to add."

After hearing his proposal, Xia Zhi was shocked. His proactivity made her feel a bit flustered.

"Do you trust me that much? Aren't you afraid I might be a scammer?" She queried with disbelief.

Looking at her naive appearance, He Jinnan's lips curled into a smile, "Wife, after all, I am a deputy general manager of a company. I may not have seen all kinds of people, but I do have a good eye for character. You're not a scammer."

Xia Zhi lowered her head to glance at the bank card on the coffee table, worried. Clearly, his conditions were thousands of times better than hers. They had just had a flash marriage, and everything seemed fine and fresh for now, but after all, they didn't know each other well. If their relationship were to go south later on and money became an issue during a divorce, things could get complicated.

"He Jinnan, let's sign a prenuptial agreement, for your good and mine," Xia Zhi suggested earnestly.

"Go on," He Jinnan said, not averse to the idea but actually seeming quite interested.

After thinking for a moment, Xia Zhi said, "Considering we had a flash marriage with no emotional foundation, I propose a one-year term. If our relationship does not progress or deteriorates after a year, we divorce. As for our assets, yours will remain yours and mine will remain mine. Therefore, I suggest we split expenses equally for the next year. Do you agree?"

He Jinnan, looking at her serious little face, clearly not wanting to take advantage of her and finding her quite upright, did not object and nodded in agreement.

"Then take this card back for now. You draw up a list of the household expenses, and I'll transfer the money to you later. I'll bring the agreement in a few days."

"Okay, no problem," He Jinnan put away the card deftly and cryptically said to her, "Wife, if after a year we don't get along, do you think we could really part ways?"

Xia Zhi looked at him, puzzled. "What do you mean by that?"

He Jinnan teased her, "Don't be scared, I respect your choices. I'm just afraid that you might fall in love with me by then."

Xia Zhi pursed her lips, "Well, we'll let time prove it."

She hadn't noticed before; this guy had a bit of vanity.

After discussing the agreement, He Jinnan asked, "Do you have any thoughts about the wedding?"

Xia Zhi queried, "What about you? Would you like a wedding?"

To be honest, she didn't really want one. If they divorced after a year, she wouldn't be able to avoid the ridicule from those around her. Yet deep down, she still yearned for a place of her own. If he insisted on having a wedding, she wouldn't oppose.

He Jinnan stated, "I do want a wedding. It wouldn't be right to marry you without one."

No matter what, such words were comforting to hear.

"Okay, then let's do it," Xia Zhi agreed readily, "You handle the wedding arrangements. I'm fine with anything. But just so you know in advance, I don't have a dowry."

"It doesn't matter. That won't affect the bride price I'll give you," He Jinnan said with a smile.

Having discussed everything, He Jinnan then took Xia Zhi for a thorough walkthrough of the house, introducing her to each room and explaining the kitchen appliances.

"Also, my wife, you don't have to do housework. We have a cleaning service come daily, except they don't cook. I often have client dinners and get home at irregular hours."

He Jinnan stood in the kitchen and told her, "But now that you're here, I'll try to cut out what socializing I can and come home early to be with you. I'll arrange for the cleaner to have dinner ready before leaving."

Feeling a bit embarrassed, Xia Zhi turned away to avoid his gaze, "However you find it convenient is fine by me."

He Jinnan replied, "Okay then, I'll get back to work, and you make yourself at home." And with that, he headed to the study.

Relaxing a bit, Xia Zhi gathered her luggage from the front door and went to the walk-in closet.

The wardrobe was almost entirely filled with He Jinnan's clothes. She found an empty space in the corner to arrange her own. She didn't have many clothes, so the space was sufficient.

After she finished, she sat on the leather stool to rest, taking out her marriage certificate from her bag. She looked at it again and again, feeling no regret. Being here seemed so much more fulfilling than living with her worthless father.

In the evening, the two of them went out to dinner and afterward strolled around the large supermarket nearby. Xia Zhi bought some everyday necessities. When they were ready to pay, she was just about to use her phone but was preempted by He Jinnan scanning the code first.

"Between spouses, no need to split everything so clearly," He Jinnan, as if guessing what she might say, preempted her objection.

Xia Zhi replied, "Well, thank you."

She didn't refuse, accepting his kind gesture, considering she could find a way to return the favor next time.

Back home, after a simple tidying up, the awkward question arose: should they spend the night in the same room?

In the living room, He Jinnan saw Xia Zhi hesitating to shower and guessed the reason. He approached her and suggested, "If you're not ready for the post-marital mindset yet, I respect that. You can sleep in the guest room."

Head bowed, with an awkward shuffling foot, Xia Zhi confessed, "He Jinnan, last night was an accident, and right now, I'm still not comfortable with the idea of sleeping with a man I have no feelings for. Can you understand me?"

He Jinnan stood there, smiled gently, and nonchalantly patted the back of the sofa, saying, "I understand. All right, let's develop our feelings first. You go sleep in the guest room."

"Thank you."

Xia Zhi sincerely thanked him, feeling he was very gentlemanly, and he gained another point of favor in her heart.

He Jinnan said, "Then you should rest early. I'm off to my room."

"Good night," Xia Zhi called out softly from behind.

The guest room also had a bathroom, hardly inferior to the master bedroom, just a little smaller in size. She found it perfectly satisfactory. Sleeping alone, she felt truly at ease.

After taking a shower and drying her hair, she lay down in bed.

From last night until now, she had hardly had a moment of peace. Only now did she finally feel a temporary sense of relief. With mixed feelings flooding her heart, Xia Zhi closed her eyes, contemplated the future, and gradually fell asleep.
