We Married in a Flash After One-Night Stand

Chapter 2: Chapter 2 Got Married

Xia Zhi sniffled and asked again, "Who are you?"

The person on the other side chuckled twice and told her, "The person you said you'd take responsibility for last night. Seems like you have a bad memory."

Upon hearing this, Xia Zhi suddenly realized, "Ah, it's you."

Thinking about last night's craziness, she felt a bit embarrassed.

He Jinnan asked, "Where are you? I'll come find you."

Xia Zhi glanced outside and told him her location, "My car is parked by the roadside. Come over."

"Okay," He Jinnan said, and quickly hung up the phone.

Xia Zhi wiped her tears and looked at the wounds on her face in the mirror, hoping she wouldn't scare him. She knew she was wrong first about the events of last night and had to give an explanation, no matter what.

About twenty minutes later, the car door suddenly opened from the outside, and He Jinnan got into the passenger seat.

Their eyes met, and both were secretly startled.

Only then did Xia Zhi really see his face clearly—fair skin, defined eyebrows, neatly groomed hair, and an extraordinary demeanor.

It seemed that fate was on her side; the first man she had spent the night with was of such fine looks, which lightened her heart a little.

When He Jinnan saw her swollen half face and the streaks of blood on it, he blurted out, "Who hit you?"

Embarrassed, Xia Zhi turned her face away and stopped looking at him, saying, "No one. That, I wanted to tell you that I can't take responsibility for you for now. I'll get in touch once I've settled down."

After listening to her, He Jinnan remained noncommittal but handed her a paper bag, saying, "This is the stuff you left at the hotel last night. I brought it for you."

Xia Zhi took it and saw it was the clothes and purse she had left in the boss's room yesterday, and she looked a bit embarrassed.

Taking out her bag, she pulled out her cell phone and told him, "Let's add each other on WeChat first."

After adding him as a friend, she transferred him two thousand dollars.

"Don't think it's too little," Xia Zhi told him. "This is all I have. Consider it compensation for last night."

He Jinnan looked at the figure on the transfer, smiled meaningfully, and then accepted the payment.

"So you're paying this money and then planning to never see me again?" he teased. "I want to ask, when you said you'd take responsibility for me, what did you mean by that? Is it just about paying me off?"

Caught by his question, Xia Zhi didn't know how to respond and, after a moment of hesitation, said dejectedly, "Honestly, I'm homeless right now and can hardly manage myself, let alone take any responsibility for you. I don't have much money either—I gave it all to you. Let's just move on from last night."

After hearing her words, He Jinnan straightforwardly said, "Well, since that's the case, you can't be responsible for me, so I'll be responsible for you!"

"Huh? What did you say?" Xia Zhi asked in surprise.

He Jinnan smiled slightly, "We both had our first time last night. You seem nice and look good. Why don't we just be together? That way, you won't have to worry about being homeless."

"Be together?" Xia Zhi was startled again. "What do you mean by together?"

He Jinnan raised an eyebrow, "If you don't mind, I mean marriage."

"Ah?" Shocked again, making Xia Zhi feel like her jaw was about to drop.

She murmured, "This is so sudden, I hadn't thought about it…"

"Well, think about it now. I'll give you ten minutes," He Jinnan said as he glanced at his watch. "Starting the timer now."

Influenced by him, Xia Zhi actually started to consider it.

Having longed for the warmth of a family, she craved a home of her own. This man looked decent and was the one she'd given her first time to. Marrying him wasn't out of the question. Besides, she had initiated it, and he was willing to take responsibility, so it seemed like the perfect solution.

"Shouldn't I know a bit more about you first?" Xia Zhi asked.

He Jinnan said, "Of course. My name is He Jinnan, 28 years old, working at Ming Sheng Group, both parents are alive. I have an older brother and a younger brother and sister. I have my own house and car, no bad habits."

"What else do you want to know?" he asked.

"How much do you earn a month? Do your parents have a pension?"

He Jinnan thought for a moment and said, "My annual salary is roughly around a few million. Both my parents are retired, but I'm not very clear about the exact pension figures."

Xia Zhi was secretly shocked—annual salary of a few million? Impressive.

She cleared her throat and introduced herself, saying, "My name is Xia Zhi, 25 years old, working at Nan Feng Studio, mainly collaborating with film companies on costume and props work, with a monthly salary of two thousand dollars. My family is a stepfamily. My father and stepmother, and a half-sister from different mothers, but I've severed ties with them. I don't own a house but have a car, no bad habits."

He Jinnan listened attentively and was very satisfied, "That's good."

He looked at her sincerely and asked, "Shall we go get the marriage certificate this afternoon?"

"So soon? Are you sure you've thought it through? Don't you need to discuss it with your family? I don't mind," Xia Zhi asked understandingly.

He Jinnan smiled, "If you don't mind, I, being a grown man, mind even less. Let's go have something to eat, then get the certificate this afternoon."

Xia Zhi didn't expect him to be so decisive and action-oriented.

She started the car and asked, "What do you want to eat?"

"I'm fine with anything. I'll have whatever you're having," He Jinnan wasn't picky and told her.

Xia Zhi thought for a moment, then drove to a small restaurant near her company they often went to, where they had a simple meal.

In the afternoon, coming out from the civil affairs bureau, Xia Zhi was looking at the freshly printed marriage certificate, feeling as if it was all a dream—it had happened so quickly!

He Jinnan was quite calm, slipping the certificate into his pocket and smiling, "Wife, please take good care of me from now on."

"Ah, sure, please take care," Xia Zhi was not as natural, her laugh a bit forced.

"How about we go home first, and if there's anything, we can talk at home," He Jinnan suggested, opening the car door for her.

It was He Jinnan who drove back. He lived very close to the city center, in a prosperous area with excellent geographical location and complete surrounding facilities, where all the residents were elites.

The car stopped at the entrance to "Hua Hai" residential area.

He Jinnan said, "I'll buy a parking spot at the property management tomorrow, let the car stay outside for tonight."

"My old beater is always parked outside; it's okay," Xia Zhi said unconcernedly.

"Don't say that, we're family now. In my eyes, everything about you is good, nothing is broken," He Jinnan gave her a gentle smile, his warm, dry palm softly stroking her face.

Xia Zhi was stirred by his touch, feeling as if a feather swept across the bottom of her heart, her ears burning hot.
