Warlock of Oceans: My Poseidon System

Chapter 138: The Coral Reef

"Oh, they already know…" The woman eagerly smiled before sitting back on the dirt bike and helping me up onto it. My body was taller than most kids my age, but in general, it was just so damn small that it was like scaling a fucking mountain trying to get onto this dirt bike. "Anyways… let's go!"

Speeding down the streets, pissing off a few locals, and receiving a few honking horns from passing cars, we finally arrived at the edge of the town, which blended effortlessly into the beach. The splashing waves of the ocean rocked against the tip of the wet sand, almost gesturing for us to splash in it.

"Come on… let's have some fun," Seber smiled, taking my hand and leading me across the beach before tearing me into a salty wave of the sea. It crushed my head and neck into the sand, pinning me down for the next wave to nearly drag my shorts and shirt off my body.

Seber laughed all the way to the deep end of the ocean, where she was forced to tread water, but even from where I was, I could see the steep decline not too far away. I knew how to swim. Perfectly, in fact, but that drop was just so damn menacing that once I ripped myself from the beating of waves, I just sat at the edge of the beach, watching the woman with black hair and deep black eyes splash around.

"What a shit vacation…." I chuckled.

It wasn't long before she came out of the water, attempting to drag me in. And with a convincing argument of buying me as much food as I could eat later, I swam in. The drop may still have been daunting, but the thought of eating as much seafood as I could was way too attractive of an offer not to take.

The beginning waves were horrible. They beat me down and disabled me from proceeding into the calm water, but after a few minutes of struggling and completely gassing out most of my stamina, I finally managed to reach the calm, open waters.

"Huff… huff… huff… I must be really out of practice… what the hell…"

Seber laughed at me, now treading water in the crystal clear opening in this almost cove-like beach. It was arced, like a crescent moon, with trails of coral a few feet beneath me. It was beautiful. Absolutely stunning to just gaze at.

"I didn't expect you to actually succeed…."

"Huh? Why?" I huffed, still treading water but soon losing my balance. It felt as if the gaping open body of water beneath me was attempting to drag me under with a strong current. My feet were getting weaker and weaker by the second, and my legs began to slow down, with the treading of my entire body beginning to dwindle.

"Because this is dungeon water," She smiled, and as my eyes slowly widened, my head shot beneath the water. Looking down through the bubbles of my underwater exhale, I saw a piece of seaweed wrapped around my ankles, yet it felt like nothing was even there… or maybe I didn't notice it.

And then, from the brightly colored coral scattering the sandy floor, mermen came out from its stretches of tiny gathered organisms. Their aqua-blue skin and green eyes blended perfectly with their surroundings, and as they held metal spears strong enough to pierce through a tank, I activated [Water Magic].

Ready to defend myself, I brought both of my hands in front of me, attempting to send a shockwave through the water to give me enough time to escape. But just as I felt a burst of mana flow through my mana veins and graze my aether core, a hand grabbed me from above and dragged me out of the water.

"Chill out… they won't attack you if you don't attack. Have you never done a water dungeon before?"

"Get me out of here, you asshole…"

Seber only continued to laugh as she saw me get dragged back down into the water, the seaweed still wrapped around my ankle. And as my stamina slowly began to dwindle away, leaving my body, I felt my feet graze against the sand below.

The crystal clear ocean allowed me to see everything… including the mermen who moved as silently as the passing fish. They stalked me from afar, their creepy green eyes peering over the coral while their spears almost seemed to click, communicating with the others.

[Empowerment of The Giants]

My body bulged and then collapsed back down, causing my muscles to begin to steam and boil the water around me. Seber wasn't lying about how they wouldn't attack if you didn't fuck with them, but that's if you're outside or on the edge of their territory… but now, I'm directly inside of it.

A status flashed in front of my eyes, and as I swiped it away from behind my hand, an aqua-blue face with piercing green eyes appeared right in front of me. Its head twitched to the side as if confused by my appearance. And as I slowly backed away, an echoing click caused the water around me to ripple.

My oxygen storage was slowly running out, and it took less than ten seconds to reach the top. I could easily swim up, but if I turned my back, the mermen would easily catch me and definitely kill or injure me once I made such a rash move. There was also the fact that I was practically tied to the ground because of a string of seaweed. Activating one of my runes would just be plain suicide since it would sap the rest of my stamina, meaning there is only way out of this…

[Water Magic]

The water around my entire body seemingly lightened, and as the merman in front of me suddenly raised his spear, I grabbed its handle. Quickly, I turned it upwards, disabling its use and then grabbing the merman by the throat.

[25 XP]

It gurgled slightly while my fingers dug into its neck, and then, without much of a problem, I crushed it, a loud crunch resonating through the water. A shadow hung above me at the very surface of the water, but I didn't have any time to check who it was as suddenly, five spears came straight at me, two immediately piercing into my flesh.
Find adventures on empire

I avoided the fatal stab at my head, but the other two were so strong and powerful that they went through my torso and came out the other side. I had to suppress my urge to finch due to the pain as even more mermen ganged up on me until the sun from above had been completely blotted out…

Shit… can't… breathe… my stamina… it's done…

Bubbles lined up to leave my mouth as my last remaining breath escaped from my grasp. And as I slowly felt my consciousness leave with the drifting blood of my torso, two hands grabbed me by my armpits and dragged me out.

"*gasp*... *cough* *cough* *cough* *cough* *cough*"

The woman patted my back as I coughed up heaps of seawater. It soon turned to me just straight up puking everything out, so eventually, I managed to rid everything from my body, but my exhaustion was so past its limit that I couldn't even curse at the woman.

[The God of Oceans looks down on you with disappointment]

Shut the fuck up, you disgusting god… what else was I supposed to do? Activating any of my runes would have fucked over my already depleted stamina… I would have surely died… what would you have wanted me to do in that situation.

[Hidden Quest: Kill Your First Ocean Monster has been completed]

[Would you like to claim your reward?]

Quickly, Seber took me back to shore and lay me on the beach. A few of the residents stared down at me from their houses, some filled with worry and some looking at me like I was a complete idiot. But that was the least of my concerns…

"You good?"

"Fuck no, I'm not good… I should have never trusted you in the first place… take me to where we'll be staying…." I groaned, coughing up another mouthful of water as the woman slung me over her shoulder. "Careful, you piece of- ugh… my stomach…. be careful..."

"Can I get a, please~"

"Oh fuck you..."
