Warhammer 40k: Starting as a Rogue Trader

Chapter 101: Chapter 102: The Wolf Pack in Search of the Wolf King

Chapter 102: The Wolf Pack in Search of the Wolf King

The Dark Eldar had long since abandoned the use of psychic powers. Though a psychic race, they had transformed themselves into materialistic warriors.

For these Dark Eldar, using psychic powers would only draw the attention of the Chaos God Slaanesh to their hidden souls.

And their non-use of psychic powers was the situation the Raiders most wanted to see.

On a purely physical level, the Raiders dared to take on any conventional force, provided no monsters showed up.

Knowing they were trapped, the Dark Eldar began to inject themselves with various combat drugs.

The unparalleled pleasure and pain made their bodies tremble uncontrollably.

But at the same time, it also drastically enhanced their physical attributes.

Under the influence of combat drugs, their speed was even enough to dodge bullets.

Wielding serrated blades coated in potent toxins, they pounced on the Raiders.

Harald had already left the bridge, also joining the fight against these Dark Eldar.

He had initially thought the battle would be very hard for these boarding Rogue Trader soldiers, and that ultimately, they themselves would have to be the ones to finish off the enemy.

However, Harald discovered that the entire warship was being retaken at an extremely rapid pace.

When Harald led his remaining battle-brothers towards a compartment fortified by the Dark Eldar, the Raiders had already sealed the hatchway, and two Night Sentinels had charged inside to conduct their own battle.

Harald looked at the combat suits worn by the Raiders, which he had never seen before, and was filled with curiosity. In all his hunts across the galaxy, he had never seen this type of armor. The Aquila on their pauldrons indicated their allegiance.

And the Raiders also noticed the arriving Space Wolves.

They lowered their gun muzzles, their eyes revealing a hint of adoration. Those were the Emperor's Angels.

"Angels of the Emperor, we are dealing with the xenos here! You can rest assured and leave this place to us! The Rogue Trader of the Mongorte Dynasty, Lord Lucan, invites you to his palace as guests!"

Harald, hearing the relaxed tone of this group of Raiders, paid them no mind. There were still enemies on his warship.

How could he possibly leave at this time?

But when he pushed past these Raiders and looked inside the compartment, the two Night Sentinels had already killed all the Dark Eldar hiding there.

Filthy blood was everywhere. One Night Sentinel was even holding a massive Sslyth mercenary. Even the faces of the Dark Eldar, who were accustomed to pain and enjoyed fear, showed disbelief, as if they had experienced a great terror before death.

After all, the method of killing with Glory Kills was somewhat bloody and cruel. If one were to say the Dark Eldar's torture was the slow and continuous infliction of prolonged pain, then what the Night Sentinels brought them was an instant of ultimate agony.

Harald looked at the two Night Sentinels, his expression grim. Perhaps he too could have killed these Dark Eldar in this confined space, but it definitely would not have been so easy.

Nor would it have been possible to emerge unscathed.

And upon seeing Harald, Abraham and Abram also took off their helmets and nodded to them in greeting.

Harald was surprised to see not the awe and respect of ordinary mortals in their eyes, but the will to fight, a desire to test their mettle against his.

A battle-brother behind Harald said to him, "This Rogue Trader Dynasty is very special! Judging by their combat results, they must have undergone extensive gene-modification!"

"I sensed it too… Could these armors also be power armor?"

"Let's go to their capital world first. The Howl of the Frost Wolf needs repairs as soon as possible, and we also need to replenish supplies and crew. The Great Wolf is summoning us to the Calixis Sector with all speed! Many Great Companies have been summoned!"

The Howl of the Frost Wolf, under the escort of the Gorgons, headed towards Agathos. And a large number of transport ships also came from Agathos. Ordinary xenos artifacts weren't worth much, but the wreckage of Dark Eldar warships might attract buyers from the Mechanicus.

Every little bit of profit counts!

—————————

"Lord Harald, your injuries have mostly recovered."

The Medic stood up. The nano-healing gun had quickly repaired Harald's injuries.

Harald moved his body. All his injuries, both external and internal, had actually completely healed.

How long had it been? A few minutes? Even the Chapter's Wolf Priests would have had to put in considerable effort to heal his injuries, perhaps even requiring surgery.

And what shocked him even more was that two of his battle-brothers, who had been critically injured and on the brink of death, were now standing before him, completely unharmed.

"Ram? Jonas? You're alright?"

"Yes. We were nearly in a state of suspended animation, but those Medicae healed our bodies so easily. By Russ, I've never seen such speed and method of healing."

Just as Harald was patting their shoulders, celebrating that these wolf pups could continue to serve the Great Company, a knock came at the door of the medical bay.

"My Lords, Lord Lucan has prepared a feast for you all. Please allow me to lead the way!"

The attendant's voice came from outside the door.

Harald was also full of interest in this Rogue Trader, Lucan. Regardless, he had to admit that if not for Lucan's intervention, their Great Company would have been annihilated.

And with the help of the Medics, his battle-brothers who might have died were now alive again.

Before the long feast table, all the Astartes of this Great Company still chose not to remove their power armor.

Food and fine wine were laid out before them. The Astartes of the Space Wolves had no qualms about fine food.

Eating meat and drinking wine in great mouthfuls was what the Wolves were supposed to do. In their eyes, living an ascetic life like some other Chapters was completely unnecessary.

Compared to the tasteless combat rations that could provide sufficient energy, they much preferred to eat this human food.

It was the first time Lucan had seen loyalist Space Marines.

The hair on Harald was exceptionally thick, and fangs even faintly protruded from his mouth.

Lucan knew this was the special gene-seed within their bodies at work. The Canis Helix, while enhancing their various attributes, also had some "benign" mutations.

That is, it would slowly change their body structure. The longer a Space Wolf lived and the stronger they became, the more wolf-like features they would often have.

Clearly, Harald was a veteran who had served for some time.

As a First Founding Chapter, the Space Wolves had always been dismissive of the Codex Astartes after Guilliman established it. They had only symbolically split their Legion into Chapters, but their numbers still far exceeded the so-called 1000-man limit of the Codex.

No one dared to ask the Space Wolves exactly how many Astartes they had. After all, if you wanted to use Imperial regulations to pressure these space barbarians, you had to be prepared to lose your head.

It seemed there was nothing they didn't dare to chop. Even the Inquisition and the Grey Knights, they would cut down all the same, and afterwards, you couldn't do anything about it.

Who could argue with someone whose lineage was so pure and whose fist was so hard?

However, for the Space Wolves, whose numbers clearly exceeded that of a normal chapter, why would a Great Company in the Expanse have only 15 men?

"Harald, welcome. It is truly my honor to meet warriors of the Space Wolves!

But how did you end up being pursued by those Dark Eldar?"

Lucan was curious about the Space Wolves' plight.

Harald also looked at Lucan, who was dressed in magnificent robes. But his instincts were telling him that Lucan was very dangerous.

He had also heard what people called Lucan; besides Rogue Trader, he even had the title of Living Saint.

He had never seen such a Living Saint.

"I accepted the Chapter's orders and the guidance of a Rune Priest, and led my Great Company from Fenris.

We were pursuing a rumor about the trail of a Primarch. We once rescued a few slaves from a Dark Eldar slave-raiding party. They had heard that Kabal mention that they had vaguely seen a colossal wolf and his pack in the Webway, breaking through a rift from the Warp and fighting a bloody battle with daemons who had fled there, before charging back into the Warp. So we came here.

We raided that Kabal, but unfortunately, even after capturing their Archon, we did not obtain what we wanted. The entrance to that part of the Webway is deep within Commorragh. Even we cannot reach there."

Hearing this, Lucan also understood why this detached wolf pack was fighting so desperately.

The Space Wolves would not give up any chance to find their Gene-father.

They had even organized fleets several times to enter the Warp to search for the lost Leman Russ.

It was just that there had never been any results.

Lucan really wanted to tell them it was all the fault of the Chaos God, GW; their financial reports weren't bad enough yet for their father to return.
