Chapter 60: Chapter 60: Bruce's Soft-Heartedness
During their conversation with Alfred, the couple's expressions gradually changed.
They began to suspect that the student who had fought with their son was the heir to the Wayne family.
Although their family also belonged to Gotham's upper class, the Wayne family stood at the pinnacle. They simply couldn't compete with such influence.
The couple stopped engaging with Alfred and walked into the school with everyone, their faces twisted with displeasure.
In the infirmary, Bruce was facing off with the boy. The two glared at each other while medical staff treated their injuries.
The infirmary door opened with a click, and the principal entered with everyone else.
"Master Bruce, how are you?"
"I'm fine!" Bruce shot another glare at the boy. "He called me an orphan and a freak. He said my parents deserved their death!"
Alfred's expression darkened as he turned a serious face toward the boy and his parents.
"If this were merely a conflict between children, I could overlook it. After all, this is part of what the young master must face as he grows up. But you should never mention the master and lady, let alone suggest they deserved their fate!"
Alfred's stern demeanor frightened the boy, who leaned toward his parents as if their proximity might somehow dispel his fear.
"Mr. Butler, it's my son's fault. I apologize for his disgraceful words."
The boy's father stepped forward apologetically. He hadn't expected his son to say such things, especially in public.
Such sentiments could be expressed in private, perhaps, but should never be voiced where others might hear—especially not to the face of the person being insulted.
Yet his son had not only said these things, but had also fought with Bruce, which placed their family in a precarious position.
If the Wayne family decided to hold them accountable, they would pay dearly. He needed to resolve this matter quickly and privately.
"It's no use apologizing to me. You must ask forgiveness from the young master." Alfred remained stern. This concerned the Wayne family's reputation, and he had to uphold it. "Master Bruce, what do you think? Whatever decision you make, I will ensure they comply."
Alfred's words made everyone in the room tense. All eyes turned to Bruce, as if awaiting a judge's verdict.
Under their collective gaze, Bruce pursed his lips, thinking.
"I want him to apologize to me in front of everyone. No one can slander my mom and dad!"
Bruce, in his inherent kindness, only wanted an apology. He couldn't bring himself to demand further punishment, but he would never allow anyone to speak ill of his parents.
Hearing this, the boy slightly puffed out his chest, adopting a defiant stance. He had no intention of apologizing. In his mind, Bruce was still a freak, and his parents had deserved their fate!
But just as he assumed this posture, he felt a sharp pain in his back—his mother's fingernails digging into his skin.
"We accept these terms!" The mother nodded, ignoring her son's look of disbelief. "He will definitely apologize!"
Bruce nodded slightly and turned to leave the infirmary. Behind him, a commotion erupted.
The spoiled boy refused to apologize, viewing it as an insult to his self-proclaimed toughness.
But his protests didn't sway his parents. Faced with their dangerous glares, the boy finally relented and agreed to apologize to Bruce.
He wasn't stupid—he understood what his parents were communicating. Though they might ridicule the Wayne family at home, that didn't mean he could do so publicly.
Compared to the price his family would pay for his defiance, his pride was worthless. Since an apology would resolve the issue, they would naturally comply.
Of course, this was only because they were dealing with the Wayne family. With any other family, they would not have accepted such terms so readily.
...
This fight made many students realize how formidable Bruce was, and they began to accept him again.
But Bruce didn't spend his time socializing with these students. His life had become more focused.
After the fight, Marcus observed that Bruce's physique had improved significantly and decided to teach him combat techniques specifically designed for real fights.
"You applied the Cunning Fox techniques remarkably well. Using just your fists without weapons and achieving such results—I have to say, you're genuinely talented."
Marcus offered his praise, then shifted the topic.
"But you're still too merciful. You can't always show restraint!"
Bruce could have clearly defeated his opponent much faster, but he had prolonged the engagement before finally subduing him. This approach lacked the decisive efficiency that the Cunning Fox style emphasized.
"Sorry, I just wanted to teach him a lesson," Bruce apologized.
"Of course you wanted to teach him a lesson. I understand that." Looking at Bruce's apologetic expression, Marcus smiled and patted his shoulder. "But that doesn't mean you shouldn't neutralize him quickly, right?"
"In a confrontation, you can taunt your opponent or use various methods to provoke them, but you must never show mercy. Even if you don't intend to cause serious harm, you need to ensure they have no capacity to continue fighting."
Bruce's heart was still too soft. Although he had mastered certain fighting skills, he remained overly concerned about injuring his opponents. This mindset was problematic.
Under Marcus's instruction, Bruce gradually lowered his head.
He understood Marcus's point but wasn't ready to embrace it. After all, his opponent had just been another student like himself.
Seeing Bruce's reluctance, Marcus recognized that he wouldn't change so easily.
"Let's not force it. I'll teach you another fighting technique, so when you face conflict, you'll have more options beyond the Cunning Fox style."
He planned to teach Bruce a fighting style called Cold-Faced Fury, which combined rapid combinations with powerful strikes. Once engaged, this style allowed for defeating opponents through continuous, overwhelming attacks.
"Like the Cunning Fox technique, Cold-Faced Fury also integrates offense and defense."
"The difference is that this technique uses your body as the primary weapon, which means we'll need to further improve your physical conditioning."
As he spoke, Marcus demonstrated the style for Bruce.
Boom, boom, boom...
His fists struck the heavy bag in waves, occasionally interspersed with powerful kicks that targeted various points. The entire bag shuddered with each impact.
Marcus's strength was immense, and his attack speed remarkable. Bruce only saw a blur of fist shadows before the sandbag—filled with iron sand—began swinging wildly from the impacts.
"Like Cunning Fox, this is the basic attack pattern of Cold Fury, called 'Fury Incitement.'
Of course, don't be misled by the name. You must remain calm during battle. Only by maintaining complete composure can you ensure victory."
