Chapter 120: Chapter 120: The Destroyer Arrives
Father entered the Odinsleep?
Hearing Fandral's words, Thor froze in place. He had clearly heard from Loki that his father had died, yet now Fandral was saying his father had merely entered the Odinsleep?
"It's that trickster Loki! He's become acting king, and he doesn't want you to return!"
The bearded Volstagg spoke with outrage. He had never liked Loki. In Asgard, only those who died gloriously in battle could enter the Hall of Valor.
In this culture that valued a warrior's death, Loki had become known as a cunning schemer who relied on magic and sneak attacks.
Although Loki's magic had saved them before, Volstagg found it difficult to think highly of someone who only attacked from behind.
"It was indeed Loki who told me my father was dead."
As Thor spoke, he still couldn't quite believe it. How could his brother have become like this?
To secure the throne, Loki had chosen to deceive him, claiming that Thor had caused their father's death.
This gave Thor a new understanding of his brother. It seemed Loki wasn't just playing harmless tricks—he would use any means necessary to achieve his goals.
As they were discussing this, a beam of light suddenly shot down from the sky into the wilderness outside town. The moment it landed, all the instruments and equipment in the room began beeping frantically.
"Jarvis!"
"Sir, I've detected a massive energy spike. The energy source is approaching rapidly."
Jarvis's voice sounded throughout the room as a virtual projection appeared in front of Tony, showing changes in the energy field.
A red energy signature indicating enormous power was quickly approaching the town.
This was what had triggered the equipment alarms—they had detected a massive energy source that registered as a deadly threat.
BOOM!!!
A violent explosion shook the town, followed by countless screams from all directions.
"Damn it, what could generate such enormous energy?"
Tony slammed his fist on the table and strode toward a person-sized metal cabinet in the room.
Inside was his Iron Man suit. He'd brought it to prepare for emergencies like Vanko, but he hadn't expected to actually need it.
He placed his hand on the cabinet, which rippled like water, breaking into countless small modules that unfolded from the middle to reveal the waiting armor.
The suit assembled around him instantly, the arc reactor on his chest emitting blue energy to power the entire system.
"I'm going to see what's happening!"
As Tony left, everyone exchanged worried glances. Only Marcus looked thoughtfully at the virtual projection of the red energy field. The thing he'd been waiting for... had arrived.
Soon everyone followed, wanting to see what was causing such violent explosions outside.
As soon as he stepped outside, Thor turned his head and yelled:
"Jane, run!"
He had seen what Tony was fighting—a massive armored figure that Thor recognized all too well.
It was his father's creation, the guardian of Asgard's treasures: the Destroyer.
This armor normally guarded Asgard's vault, but its appearance here carried an unmistakable message.
As Thor warned Jane, the Asgardians also spotted the Destroyer firing powerful beams of light at Tony as he flew through the air.
"The Destroyer? Loki truly has no limits—he's trying to kill Thor!"
Volstagg bellowed. Now that Loki was acting king of Asgard, only he had the authority to command the Destroyer.
"That mortal can't last long against it—we need to help him!"
Fandral drew the long sword at his waist. The Destroyer was one of Asgard's most powerful weapons. If its attack made direct contact with Tony's suit, the metal would instantly melt.
Under Fandral's lead, the Asgardians rushed toward the Destroyer.
"Thor, get away from here! We'll hold off the Destroyer as long as we can!"
Thor, now reduced to mortal strength, couldn't help in this fight. Only his Asgardian friends stood a chance of delaying the Destroyer.
"What the hell is this thing?! It doesn't seem to have any weaknesses!"
By this point, Tony was nearly overwhelmed by the massive armored figure. He had used his most powerful weapons, but they hadn't even scratched the Destroyer's surface—at best, they only slowed its advance.
If not for Jarvis's assistance, Tony would have been incinerated by the energy beams the Destroyer was firing.
CLANK
The Destroyer's head opened like a shutter, revealing a blazing core that charged up before unleashing a thick beam of energy directly at Tony.
With Jarvis's help, Tony swerved sharply in mid-air, narrowly avoiding the Destroyer's attack.
Though this was the fourth time he'd evaded the beam, Tony remained tense. He had no desire to experience another near-death experience.
After seeing Tony successfully evade the Destroyer, Volstagg, the burliest of the warriors, burst out laughing.
"Hahaha! I like this mortal—he's far better than Loki!"
Tony's performance had earned Volstagg's respect. In his view, evading the Destroyer's attacks was no shameful thing.
This was the All-Father's own creation—no one could withstand a direct hit from the Destroyer.
And unlike Loki, Tony wasn't resorting to sneak attacks. He was facing the Destroyer head-on, like a true warrior.
"Have a taste of Volstagg's might!"
Volstagg raised his shield and charged the Destroyer. The Asgardian's tremendous strength was immediately apparent as he managed to halt the Destroyer's advance.
Finding itself unable to move forward, the Destroyer reached out to grab Volstagg. Before it could complete the motion, its arm was blocked by Fandral's sword.
"Hogun, Sif, now!"
Fandral shouted, knowing he couldn't hold the Destroyer for long.
Hogun and Sif didn't disappoint. Hogun crossed his twin maces to block the Destroyer's other arm, while Sif leaped high into the air, driving her spear through the Destroyer's head.
With the spear impaling its head, the Destroyer froze. Everyone was about to breathe a sigh of relief when Tony's voice suddenly rang out:
"Get clear! Its power levels are spiking!"
On his HUD display, Tony could see the energy readings from the Destroyer rising at an alarming rate, ready to erupt at any moment.
Sif and the others weren't fools. Hearing Tony's warning, they immediately scattered.
The moment they cleared the area, the Destroyer's body began to twist. Its entire form glowed red hot as tremendous power surged within it.
RUMBLE...
Just as the Destroyer was about to erupt, a shadow rushed toward it at high speed, accompanied by a mighty roar, and delivered a powerful punch downward.
