Chapter 51: Town is *over
Ellis had never been one to hide his emotions, and he came home with a furious expression.
Xi Tian noticed his partner’s mood was off. He had been fine when he left, but now he seemed like a firecracker. “What’s wrong? Why are you so angry?” he asked.
Ellis had no intention of hiding anything and told Xi Tian everything in detail.
At first, Xi Tian thought it was just an unpleasant encounter with Bill, but he never imagined that Bill would make a move on him.
Xi Tian, who had been sitting on the sofa, felt a surge of anger that made him stand up and pace heavily across the living room floor.
His fists clenched and unclenched, his knuckles turning white. His heart pounded furiously in his chest, and for the first time, he felt a mix of cold and rage in the temperate room.
“What does he take me for?! Does he even respect me?! What gives him the right to suggest such a thing?! How disgusting!” Xi Tian spat out the words through gritted teeth, hating himself for not knowing how to curse. His anger destroyed all his rationality.
He suddenly turned to Ellis and demanded, “You didn’t agree to it, did you?”
Ellis’s eyes widened. “Of course not! How could I possibly agree to such a request?”
Hearing this from Xi Tian hurt Ellis a bit.
“You should stay far away from him. Don’t have anything to do with him ever again,” Xi Tian said. “No, it’s not just about avoiding him. This place isn’t suitable for us at all.”
“Remember when someone broke into our house? Someone actually paid to have someone sneak in here to steal my hair and blood. I can’t fathom why all these things are happening at once!”
Ellis was hearing about this for the first time. If people could come and go as they pleased, it meant Xi Tian could be in constant danger. His heart filled with fear.
“Let’s leave this place, Xi Tian,” Ellis blurted out.
Just now, Xi Tian, who had said this place was unsuitable, fell into deep thought. He recalled the last time he left his home planet, the intense reluctance tearing at his heart. At the same time, Kang Ran’s words echoed in his mind, creating a tangle of conflicting thoughts.
“Why leave? Life here is stable and peaceful, isn’t that what you’ve always wanted?”
“Why get lost in stability? Haven’t you always wanted to venture out? This is a great opportunity. How can you let yourself live such a mundane life?”
These opposing viewpoints clashed like a heated debate in his mind. In the end, the conservative side prevailed.
Xi Tian hesitated.
On the third day, following local customs, Rutherford’s funeral was held at the church. Under the priest’s eulogy, he was laid to rest. The townspeople placed white flowers on his coffin, believing this would bring peace to the departed soul.
The thug’s grandfather arrived after most people had left, apologizing mournfully to Rutherford in the coffin and then to Korawa.
Korawa seemed to have cried all his tears dry, his face tightly drawn. Even Louis, who usually dared to talk back to him, stood silently and obediently by his side.
Before leaving, Korawa called out to Xi Tian.
“Yesterday, the lawyer came to see me. He said that Rutherford’s two properties are now mine.”
“So, do we need to sign a new rental agreement?” Xi Tian asked.
“No, I heard you were interested in buying property in the town?”
“Yes,” Xi Tian thought for a moment, “I used to be.”
“I’m planning to leave this place and never return, so I want to sell all my real estate here.”
“Never return?” Xi Tian was puzzled. As far as he knew, people who grew up in this town had a deep attachment to it and rarely left.
“I stayed here because my brother was here. Now that my last relative is gone, this place has become a sad one.”
Korawa gave a bitter smile. “You haven’t been here long enough to know. This place looks down on double-female couples. Because of my union with a sub-female, many people gossiped about him. When he followed me here, he did it without hesitation. How could I fail him?”
“Regarding your situation, I’m very sorry, but I don’t plan to stay here any longer. You’ll need to find another buyer.”
“Okay, I understand.”
Korawa gave Xi Tian a hug, and Xi Tian was momentarily caught off guard, held tightly by him.
“You’re a good person. Treat him well.”
Korawa let go and waved goodbye. Xi Tian turned around and followed his gaze to see that it was Ellis looking over.
Their gazes met in the air.
Ellis walked over step by step and firmly grasped Xi Tian’s hand.
“Korawa said he’s leaving here.”
“Hmm?”
“Shall we leave too?”
“Eh? Sure, does the master have any particular place in mind?”
“No, I’m not sure. Actually, my mentor had asked me to come to him before. I thought it wasn’t necessary at the time and declined.”
“How about we go to your mentor’s place then?”
“Sounds good. By the way, do you know what Korawa said when he said goodbye to me earlier?”
“Ah? I didn’t know.”
“He told me to treat you well. When did you and he get so close?”
“Actually, I don’t really know either. Just the usual, eating, drinking, and visiting.”
“Do you think I’ll believe that?”
“… If the master doesn’t believe it, I can’t force you to.”
“Why do you keep switching between formal and informal speech?”
“Ah? Maybe it’s a habit… Oh!”
Ellis missed a step while going down the stairs.
“Can’t you focus on walking properly?”
Xi Tian laughed, squatted down to check his ankle, and pinched it.
“Does it hurt? Can you still walk?”
“It doesn’t hurt much… Hiss!”
Xi Tian applied some pressure, pinched his ankle, and remarked:
“How do you manage to twist your ankle on every step? Never mind, I’ll take a bit of a loss and help you back.”
“Hiss, th-thank you, master.”
Xi Tian walked slowly, occasionally checking on Ellis, who leaned comfortably against him.
That stretch of road felt like they were moving from youthful days to old age.
