Chapter Eight: Playing Poker?

Two figures, one black and one white, passed by Gwen's room window and landed precisely on the fire escape. They were Norton and Gwen, returning from a date. Norton was sitting on Gwen's bed, playing with Gwen's laptop. Gwen was about to change clothes when she suddenly remembered that Norton was still behind her. She turned her head slowly and saw Norton staring at her intently.

"Sorry," Norton said, as he decisively closed his eyes, realizing he had been caught.

"Honey, I'm coming in," came Gwen's mother's voice.

"Wait..." Gwen tried to shout, but Helen Stacy opened the door. The atmosphere froze instantly.

When the door opened, Norton habitually looked in its direction. As soon as Helen entered, she saw her daughter had her shirt half-off and her boyfriend was watching. Helen instantly understood the situation, muttered an apology, and slowly closed the door.

Fortunately, Norton had changed his clothes before coming back, otherwise, his battle suit would have been exposed.

"It's all your fault. Now my mother must have misunderstood something," Gwen said, blushing and wanting to explain things to Norton.

"But we are boyfriend and girlfriend," he replied.

"Then we have to do something to prove it!"

"What?!" Just as Norton looked at Gwen, who was now pressing down on him, the door of the room opened again. This time, a hand stretched in and threw something into the room before the door closed once more.

"What's that?" Norton used his cobweb shooter to pull the item closer. As he examined it, the corners of his mouth rose in a grin: "It's Du Xi."

Gwen's mother was truly a good one, at least when it came to dealing with feelings, much more understanding than the rigid George.

"I'll go and explain to my mother," Gwen said, blushing, planning to get off Norton. Originally just joking around, Norton had no such plan. Since the future mother-in-law had sent the item in, there was no reason to back down. Fortunately, George was on duty, otherwise, he would have been the one knocking on the door.

Norton grabbed Gwen, pulled her hard, and changed her position. Smiling, he said, "It's better than now..."

He thought Gwen would be shy, but she surprised him: "Who is afraid of whom!" she declared. She pulled Norton by the collar and kissed him passionately, saying she had been waiting for this day.

The cobweb injector on Norton's wrist shot out cobwebs, drawing the curtains together and darkening the room instantly. Gwen also quickly sprayed cobwebs on the door, ensuring it would remain sealed and difficult to open for the next hour.

In the room, only the whirring of the fan could be heard, and the light from the laptop placed on the ground revealed the shadows of the two playing poker together.

"Yesterday, the CEO of Stark Industries, Tony Stark, conducted a weapon test in the Middle East and was attacked by terrorists on the way back. His whereabouts are still unknown!" said the news channel on the laptop.

But at the moment, the duo didn't have time for the news because they had more to explore.

After more than an hour, Gwen lay in Norton's arms, drawing circles on his chest. "It's lucky that I can meet you," Gwen said affectionately.

Now that she thought about it, they met because of an incident. If Gwen had come early or late at that time, the ending would have been different. "Me too," Norton replied.

He took her hand, kissed the back of it, and said, "It's almost noon now. Let's go down and see if my mother-in-law can help with cooking?" After speaking, he hooked her chin, making her chuckle a few times. "All right."

The two put on their clothes, and when they got downstairs, they saw an incredible scene. "Oh my god, Gwen, come here quickly and look at your mother! What are you doing at the top of the stairs?" George waved when he saw Gwen and Norton coming downstairs, holding a broom to block the stairs.

Helen, the mother-in-law, turned around and said with a smile, "Oh, you're done. I can't believe it took an hour."

George, who was nearby, heard the words and immediately squinted his eyes in doubt: "What are you... talking about?"

Now Gwen was blushing, hesitating and temporarily losing her language ability, so Norton had no choice but to step forward and explain: "It's nothing, we were just working on a project. Since there were too many topics, it took an hour. My mother-in-law stopped at the stairs because she didn't want you to disturb us."

Norton didn't even blush when he said this, lying as easily as if it were second nature. "That's it, okay..." Suddenly, George realized what the problem was: "Wait, what did you call Helen just now?"

Helen patted George on the shoulder and said with a meaningful smile, "Okay George, these are things that will happen sooner or later. They will all grow up."

George was filled with confusion, and he spent the whole process from eating to washing dishes in a daze. During this period, his eyes kept wandering between Norton and Gwen, trying to figure something out, but apparently, Sergeant George didn't get that far.
