Chapter 196: Think of it as A Very Scary Dog
"Yep, I'm the clan heir."
Merciless said to Lia without hesitation. There was no point in holding back; she could already feel his authority over her coursing through her blood. All vampires would experience this. The closer they were to the purer aspects of the bloodline, the more instinctive their reverence became.
Without warning, Merciless placed a hand on Lia's head, his grip firm yet oddly gentle; his hand was massive, covering her whole head. Her cheeks flushed even deeper, her earlier embarrassment intensifying.
As their skin touched, Merciless began absorbing her ichor into himself, drawing her powers into his vast arsenal. His voice was calm and steady as he explained, each word carrying an undeniable weight.
"Feel it for yourself if you need proof."
Merciless said Lia as he continued.
"Your blood reacts euphorically to my touch... Mine is of higher quality; it is the closest thing to the original source from which all Michellian vampires began, and as the heir, my presence resonates strongly within you."
He paused, his piercing gaze meeting hers.
"But let's get introductions out of the way. I am Merciless Minerva Elderblood II, the first and only son of Michelle Elderblood... Age 283... I am a Level 5 vampire."
A faint, almost playful smirk tugged at the corner of his lips.
"Nice to meet you, child."
He added, his tone both commanding and oddly courteous.
Lia studied him carefully. His demeanor suited him perfectly, yet his gothic appearance seemed to contradict any sense of approachability. Despite this, her thoughts began to swirl.
'I knew it.'
She thought to herself, her hand instinctively rising to her chest in a mix of excitement and awe.
Meanwhile, Merciless caught her expression, a faint smile playing on his lips as his thoughts drifted.
'For a century-old vampire, she's... cute, isn't she?'
He mused to himself.
"This is the first time I've spoken to another Michellian outside of the grand elders and Father himself. I'm glad she's okay; I hate seeing warriors of my bloodline hurt."
His gaze softened as he observed her further, pride creeping into his thoughts.
'But cowardice? No, I see none in her. She may have been retreating from the enemy, but she chose to draw their strongest away to give her sister and her kilde a chance to survive. She got alright.'
Said Merciless to himself as he continued.
"Either way, a Level 3 vampire being in this place is basically suicide."
Merciless said, his tone blunt but calm.
"I'd tell you to quit while you can, but I know that's not an option. I won't ask why you're here, but I think it's about time I send you back to your sister."
"Huh?!" Lia exclaimed, utterly shocked by his words.
"How do you even know I have a sister, Your Highness?"
Merciless let out a faint smile and replied casually.
"First off, drop the 'Your Highness.' Honestly, titles like that make me cringe. Just call me Merciless."
"Wait... really? Are you sure that's okay?"
Lia asked hesitantly.
"You're acting weird."
He said with a raised brow.
"Yes, it's fine... Just call me Merciless, woman."
Lia flushed slightly and quickly bowed her head.
"S-Sorry! My apologies. It's just... meeting a clan heir isn't something ordinary vampires, or even noble ones like myself, get the chance to do if ever unless we are called. As you should already know, heir only deal with their closest vassals; just seeing one like this is a rare event."
She took a deep breath and offered a small, respectful smile.
"Anyway, it's nice to meet you, Merciless. I'm Lia. But... how do you know so much about me and my sister? This is the first time we've ever met after all."
Merciless sighed, his tone growing more casual as he spoke.
"Look, we live in a world brimming with supernatural bullshit. Me knowing about you shouldn't even surprise you at this point. Either way, let's cut this short, shall we? I've got things I need to take care of."
"... Though!!!...
He paused, his expression darkening slightly.
"I don't think I could face Murphy again knowing I left his grandkids to die out here. So, just until you finish the exam... I will be doing the old man a favor; after all, I would love for him to be in-depth to me."
With that in mind, his giant kaiju-like tail began to split into nine smaller giant anadconda-like tails. One of them detached entirely, falling to the ground with a sickening thud before transforming into a serpent-like creature.
Lia's eyes widened as the serpent slithered toward her feet.
"W-Wait! What's this?!"
She stammered, instinctively stepping back, but the serpent was faster. It coiled around her leg with unnerving speed and precision, then wrapped firmly around her waist. And fuse with her at the tailbone located at the lower end at the back of her spine.
"Relax."
Merciless said flatly, watching her reaction with mild amusement.
"Hehehe... this is just a little... loan... think of one of my nine tails as a very scary dog."
He said jokingly to Lia.
And before Lia could respond, the serpent fused with her being. She gasped, doubling over slightly as a surge of unfanthomable amounts of power rushed through her body. It was overwhelming and intoxicating at the same time.
Her veins felt like they were brimming with liquid fire, her muscles buzzing with power she'd never experienced before in her 100 years of being alive.
"This... this isn't mine... yet why do I?...
She managed to say, her voice trembling. Her hand clutched her chest as if to steady herself.
"But it feels... unreal. Like I could take on anything, like I could do anything and everything. What is this?"
She asked, unable to grasp what this feeling was.
Merciless, on the other hand, just pridfully smirked and said.
"It's my power."
Merciless said simply, folding his arms as he studied her reaction.
"Well, it's just a fraction of my power. Don't let it go to your head—it's borrowed, not yours. You'll only have it for as long as I allow, so use it wisely. Think of it as me giving you my blessing, or better yet, making you a temporary apostle. And before you ask what an apostle is, don't bother; I'm not going to explain it."
"That said, neither your Ceridwen nor mine can hear us right now. I've hidden both our thoughts and voices from them and the world itself, so this conversation is just between you and me."
Merciless admitted this plainly, leveraging Ophelia's ability to shield his secrets. He had a plan, an agenda, and the newfound powers, blessings, and the queen's knowledge he had acquired reshaped how he viewed the so-called "exam." To him, it wasn't a test anymore; it was a treasure trove waiting to be exploited.
A mere playground for kids to gain true power, but he was built differently; henceforth, he does things differently.
There was a specific place he needed to be, and meeting Lia was a stroke of fortune.
Yet he could feel his trance state—the heightened enlightenment that fueled his growth starting to fade.
He wasn't ready to let it go.
He craved more power and had no intention of letting such an opportunity slip through his fingers so easily; how dare it even try to just stop? He would not allow this. So, summoning his ability of pride, he used his newly acquired Status Lock to bind the trance state directly to the tail he had loaned to Lia.
By locking the trance within the tail, it became a separate being that is currently in an eternal state of growth—an endless source of development.
Merciless had no idea how long his fading trance would have last if he didn't step in, but he wasn't going to waste the chance. Although he couldn't use Status Lock on himself, since the tail was now fused with Lia, it qualified as an external entity. This loophole allowed him to bypass the restriction.
The result? Lia now possessed a biological weapon: a tail permanently locked in a state of growth, feeding off the same enlightenment Merciless once wielded. In a way, she had become a pseudo-level 5 vampire.
Each of Merciless's tails, including the one now fused with Lia, was formidable. At full power, one tail alone could influence and effect an entire galaxy with his powers. When combined, they could extend their reach to ten galaxies, making him an unparalleled force even among lower-level 5 vampires.
It was these tails that made Merciless the strongest among his lower level 5 peers, a true anomaly, even by the standards of the supernatural. His body was an enigma, his strength a living proof of his abnormality.
For that reason, he made Lia an apostle—well, a fake one at least.
From the knowledge Merciless had acquired, he learned that each Arbiter could have a total of ten Apostles. Each Apostle was a representation of a specific aspect or ideal of the Arbiter they served. In Lia's case, she now embodied Merciless's very essence and ideals.
This meant that she was poised to receive the same extraordinary opportunities and encounters, the blessings, power, and serendipitous advantages; that had fueled Merciless's own rise.
Additionally, Lia had gained the ability to traverse different parts of the Primix Dimension without restriction or cost. This was an extraordinary privilege, one that even the House of Ghal couldn't achieve without facing severe consequences.
All of this wasn't granted solely for Lia's benefit, it was a calculated move by Merciless, a last minute plan that he came up with to progress himself even more. By empowering her in this way, he ensured she could accumulate even more power, which, in turn, would ultimately benefit him in the end.
In layman terms, Lia had became Merciless Blessed.
Although Merciless saw more as a cute tool.
As such he began to speak to her, and said as such.
"But yes."
Merciless began, his voice smooth yet commanding.
"This tail is a gift from me to you, temporarily, of course; to help you survive this exam. But don't mistake it for charity; nothing I do comes free."
His neon blue eyes gleamed as he continued, his tone carrying both pride and expectation.
"I am a man who values excellence; I demand only the best of the best, and since you've been fortunate enough to cross paths with me here, I expect to see you rise to greater heights."
He leaned forward slightly, his gaze piercing.
"Here's the price for borrowing my power: if you can't draw the attention of powerful Outerspawn and evolve into a Greater Spawn, I'll be deeply disappointed. So do me a favor, become strong. Crave power and nothing but power. If you use my tail wisely, you'll achieve incredible strength at a staggering pace."
Merciless gestured toward the tail now fused with her, a faint smirk curling his lips.
"Having my tail with you is like wielding some of my power's with one-eleventh of my intial range at your side.... so don't waste it."
Merciless said to which Lia blinked, still trying to process what had just happened. Her breathing was uneven, and her mind raced with the possibilities of what she could do now.
"Wait really, well damn, no wonder I feel like this, I've never felt this strong before..."
She whispered, more to herself than to him.
Merciless then said.
"Good. Then you'll have no excuse if you fail. Prove you're worthy of that power, or it'll crush you. Simple as that... your body is still level 3 you know compare to my tail that is a lower level 5 existence."
At these word Lia straightened, meeting his gaze with newfound determination.
"I won't fail.... I will see to it that all expection are met, and beyond."
She said firmly, her voice steady now.
"Good... now then, I will be sending you back to you sister, I can see her from here, they are in trouble... well, Lia Hoflas is not here, she is at her sister side."
The moment Merciless said those last bit of words, Lia had confused look on her face, as she said.
"Wait wh...

In that moment, Lia vanished from Merciless's sight. His words were more than simple speech; they were commands, infused with a power that compelled reality itself to comply.
With his intent woven into each syllable, the world within his influence responded without hesitation. As soon as he spoke, his will became law, and Lia was instantly transported to Mia's side.
And when Lia was gone Merciless look back west and said.
"Jordan is coming, but honestly I have no intentions of going with them, hmm... however they can still be useful, I guess I will summon Substance and Ana here then... I have very special mission for them to accomplish."
