Universal Slave

Chapter 18: Corruption, power, hope, and a little girl

The crackling of the fire was the only sound that could be heard in the silent night.

Cynthia looked at the calm sky with resignation. It had been a few days since the confrontation with the nobles of the Firel house. With no other option they had had to flee deep into the forbidden forest.

Her parents, her servants, her territory, everything was now lost.

She looked at the bars of the cage she was in. A filthy cage through which countless slaves had passed.

That's right, they too had been captured by the slavers who roamed the forest in search of lunaris.

At least the three siblings had been put in the same cage. If they had been separated, their already unstable youthful minds would probably have completely collapsed.

Looking at her two younger siblings Aria and Julian, who slept cuddled up next to her, with dried tear marks on their dirty faces, Cynthia felt despair take hold of her. However, she would not let herself be defeated. She could not afford to show weakness, since she was the last pillar for her little brothers.

She gritted her teeth and stopped the tears that threatened to escape without her permission. She was a strong woman, that was how she had been raised.

The world of nobles was a cruel world, since they were little they had received all kinds of training from their parents. Now, their territory and their title had been taken away from them, but in their bones they still carried that noble education.

Cinthia closed her eyes and prayed. Her family worshiped the god of providence, Selder.

It didn't matter if her prayers were not answered as usual, she needed to try something. Anything was better than sitting idly by.

Who knows? Maybe this time, her prayers would finally be answered.

Lanti watched the young human girl praying with her eyes closed, and in her mind, the image of that handsome human appeared fleetingly. On that occasion, she had captured him and locked him away in Lunaria's underground prison. Now, it was her turn to be captured.

She remembered her good friend Sonya, and a tremendous bitterness washed over her. It was best not to think about it any longer.

After being captured, she had not been treated badly by her captors. She had simply been thrown into this cage, and for the next few days the group of captors advanced at a slow pace through the forest, heading towards Ferulia. Halfway there, the group joined an even larger caravan, made up of several carriages carrying cages full of slaves.

It was at that moment that the cage that had until then been for her exclusive use, received its second guest. A young Ferali covered in wounds that had been treated rather clumsily. The young woman had remained unconscious from beginning to end, and it did not seem that she would wake up anytime soon. She had a fever and her breathing was somewhat labored, she did not seem to be having a very good time. Lanti had checked her situation a couple of times, coming to the conclusion that if she did not receive medical attention in the next few days, the girl would die succumbing to her wounds.

The next guests in her cage, to her surprise, were three human children. Their appearance was similar to that of the human she had captured the previous week. But Lanti, who had never had dealings with other humans, did not know if this similarity was important or if all humans just looked the same.

Now, several days had passed and they would soon arrive in Ferulia. She would finally discover who was behind her kidnapping. She would never believe that simple slavers would dare to kidnap a captain of the royal guard. Behind this group of people there must be someone powerful, with great influence in Lunaria. In her mind there were several candidates who met these requirements. As one of the most renowned prodigies, she had come into contact with some people of such status.

With her powers sealed by Noral's shackles, she could not resist at the moment. All he could do was wait, keep a cool head, maybe an opportunity to escape would present itself in the future.

Watching the human girl pray, she also closed her eyes and began to pray to the dragon goddess.

...............…............

Luke opened his eyes with difficulty. He was so tired that his eyelids closed involuntarily.

For a few moments he looked at the darkness of the cave. Little by little, the memories of what had happened began to return, and his mind began to clear up.

"Ugh, I overdid it a little this time," Luke said, feeling the state his body was in. His muscles screamed in pain with every slight movement he made.

Luke felt a slight pressure on his chest that made him feel somewhat uncomfortable. With great effort he raised his head a little and looked at his chest. There, a small naked girl was curled up on his body, sleeping peacefully.

Luke's heart skipped a beat

"Police, I swear I don't know anything about this situation!" He screamed in his mind

Watching the little girl, and feeling her familiar presence, Luke came to the only possible conclusion.

This was the beautiful woman he had seen before losing consciousness. As for why she had suddenly turned into a girl? He couldn't know, there are mysteries in the world after all. When she wakes up he would ask her.

Luke continued to look with great effort and could see that his limbs that had been severed by the spider queen, had now returned to normal. He moved the fingers of his hand slightly, and before he could feel the joy of regaining his limbs, what he felt was the tremendous pain that his muscles were transmitting to his brain after making such a tiny movement.

Luke took a breath, wincing in pain.

After a moment, the pain subsided.

"I better not move for now. Syzy!"

Luke called out to the system, but there was no response.

"Indeed, the system is deactivated. I don't know how long it will take for it to be up and running again. It's best not to count on it for now."

He assessed the situation he was in and decided that for the moment he could do nothing but cultivate his spiritual power.

The girl continued to sleep unfazed, and he began to absorb the abundant spiritual energy from the epicenter of the territory. This was the best place to cultivate!

...........................

The dome composed of dense spiritual energy dissolved, revealing the surroundings.

Seeing the familiar scenery around him, Flynn felt warmth in his eyes. Then came the relief of having escaped danger, and immediately after that the despair of thinking that their savior was still in that dark cave, fighting for his life!

The place where Luke had sent them was the central plaza of Lunaria. Originally Luke had forged the transportation talisman with the intention of using it to escape in case of some unforeseen event. The original location of the arrival point had been set in his room, however he had had to alter the destination at the last moment. If he sent so many people to such a small space, it would have been a disaster. Some people would have materialized in the middle of the walls and died immediately.

At one point Luke thought of sending them directly to the garden of the holy lady Namira, but he discarded that idea since the situation in the church was not completely stable. If he sent that group of people, he could not only endanger all of the already miserable prisoners of the spider queen, but also Namira, who apparently did not have that much power within the church, despite being the holy lady.

The prisoners were in a terrible state of health, poisoned and paralyzed, so he couldn't send them out of the city. The only acceptable place he could think of at the moment was Lunaria's central plaza, which had large empty green spaces where his teleportation spell would certainly not cause any major inconvenience.

Flynn was not the only conscious prisoner, there were several who had witnessed the entire process by which they were rescued, although they had been passive participants, unable to contribute anything to the situation.

They had now returned to Lunaria and were so happy that tears of happiness ran down their cheeks.

The appearance of a large group of people so suddenly obviously attracted the attention of all the Lunaris present in the central plaza. Exclamations of surprise began to resonate one after another, and immediately afterwards an alarm flooded the peaceful atmosphere of the city center.

A large group of soldiers suddenly flooded the vicinity.

" Stay back! All civilians, keep your distance!"

The soldiers began to give orders, and the people present immediately responded out of fear of being involved in some incident. Could this group of people who had appeared be attackers?

The soldiers surrounded them, and Flynn gathered all his remaining strength to shout.

"Help! We are citizens of Lunaria!"

The soldiers were unfazed by their shouts. They had a protocol to follow. They stood guard, waiting for orders.

A middle-aged Lunari walked through the crowd and came to the front of the soldiers. It was the head of the urban guard Lewis. Immediately afterward, several other Lunaris whose rank was unknown but who possessed a tremendous level of cultivation appeared alongside the former.

After seeing the situation, and the state the "intruders" were in, they sighed in relief. This group of people posed no threat to them.

Lewis inquired about how to proceed with the powerful Lunaris who had appeared at the scene. After getting an answer, he gave orders to his soldiers.

"Seize them all!" He said in a powerful voice that extended even beyond the immense central plaza.

The soldiers responded affirmatively and immediately captured all the intruders.

One by one they were transported to the underground prison, where they would be interrogated. However, the Lunaris who had escaped death at the hands of the Spider Queen did not feel any fear of being captured. Surely everything would be fine once they explained the situation, they thought.

Only little Flynn felt a feeling of uneasiness that he could not explain.

Knock-knock

The door to the large room where Queen Zara was cultivating her spiritual energy rang.

The queen opened her eyes and stood up lazily.

"Come in," Zara said in her languid voice.

Godrick Stone entered the room with his usual solemn expression.

"I have a report, Your Majesty. A large number of individuals have teleported into the city, appearing in the central square. They have been detained by members of the city guard and taken to the prison for questioning."

"Very well, I want a detailed report of the entire situation as soon as it is available." The Lunari queen did not pay much attention to the matter, she already knew of the arrival of these people. What really interested her was the whereabouts of young Luke Lyriksen, as well as the outcome of the events in the territory of the spider queen. That's right, Queen Zara was aware of the events that had taken place in the territory of the beast. Or at least part of it. She only knew the events inscribed in the causal nodes, which had been communicated to her through the oracles of the dragon goddess. What she wanted to know was how the presence of the boy who was not supposed to be there would have affected the normal development of events.

Godrick did not retreat. His expression turned a little gloomy and he continued with his report.

"Your majesty, there are irregularities in the handling of this case. The urban guard did not report the incident and they themselves will carry out the interrogation, without allowing the participation of the royal guard."

Queen Zara narrowed her eyes, her aura turning sharp.

"Oh? The nobles are bolder than I expected. They surely know that I already knew of the arrival of this group of people, since without my permission, no one could carry out such a massive teleportation within my territory. Which means that the fact that they have taken such actions, is simply with the intention of sending a message."

Godrick did not say anything, but his gaze became gloomy and there was a hint of bloodlust in his aura.

"There is no need for you to be so angry Godrick, there is no need to lose your cool over the actions of a couple of insects that do not know their place. I am sure they think that everything is under their control simply because I have let them do what they wanted in the last period of time. They are becoming arrogant."

"Your majesty, should we take action? Just give me the order and I promise to bring the heads of the traitors before the next dawn!"

"Don't worry Godrick, you will have your chance. But now is not the time, we cannot make hasty moves and risk ruining the goddess' plans."

Godrick immediately restrained his aura that had exploded like a released stream of water, and returned to his usual solemnity.

Queen Zara smiled, showing all her beauty and continued saying

"If they want to act like big shots, let them. I want you to secretly watch their movements, but do not intervene in their actions. Just make sure to preserve the physical integrity of the children. Even if they have to suffer a little, do not act unless absolutely necessary. Let them continue to believe that they are in control of the situation."

"Yes, your majesty!" Godrick responded forcefully, turned around and left the room.

In the large room only the pensive Lunari queen remained.

"I hope that the universal warrior is as powerful as the prophecies say. Otherwise…"

A final sigh sounded in the room.
