Chapter 85
The soldiers looked at the shallow wounds of the middle-aged man and just said, "To avoid any more accidents, please don't practice your abilities anymore as there are a lot of people here."
The middle-aged man had the confidence to harass him because he knew that the law and order were currently weak, but it seemed that he forgot about it when he was injured. Why would the army even take care of such shallow injuries in the current time they were in?
The middle-aged man didn't even lose an arm or anything, but he screamed too loud; that's why the soldiers came over, but they wouldn't care about such small injuries any longer, unlike before.
It's obvious that the army doesn't have enough energy to care about small conflicts that were erupting between the survivors, so they wouldn't care about it as long as it doesn't involve anything too serious, such as killing or serious injuries.
Treyton also knew it, so he didn't even heavily injure the man, but the man just shouted too loud over such injuries.
After persuading Treyton not to practice his abilities for the time being, they didn't bother asking for what truly happened and just went back to their posts, even though the middle-aged man was still saying something to them.
"If you still want your eyes intact, scram and don't appear in front of me again," Treyton said while still looking coldly at the middle-aged man.
The middle-aged man also realized that Treyton was someone he couldn't offend, so he hurriedly drove his car away from them.
As soon as the middle-aged man drove away, Treyton approached and embraced him, interrupting his stretching.
"What did you even get worked up for?" Luciel asked nonchalantly. He didn't bother moving and just let Treyton embrace him.
"Nothing," Treyton said while still not letting go of him.
"That's good. No need to get work up for such people. If they really did something, just cut their hands off or just let them go to hell earlier," Luciel said.
He heard a lot of such unpleasant things and was looked at by such unpleasant gazes a lot of times in his past life, so he learned to ignore them as long as they didn't touch him.
As long as he wasn't in a bad mood, he could easily ignore such things as long as they wouldn't touch him. Once they put their thoughts into action, he would always leave them with some of their body parts missing or just kill them directly.
So, Treyton really doesn't have to be angry about such things.
"Yeah," Treyton finally said after a while.
"Now, let go of me. I need to stretch for a bit more," Luciel said, and Treyton also let him go.
The others also went out of the car just like himself and started to walk around a bit or just talk to each other outside.
As long as there's an opportunity to go out, most of the people in their team would go out because they were tired of staying in the car for a long time.
They didn't encounter anymore trouble because the people around them didn't have any more guts to cause trouble after seeing what Treyton had done and after seeing that most of their team members looked like combatants.
After 24 hours, they finally entered the military base. They drove inside, going directly to the residential areas that the military designated.
The military base seemed to lack a lot of people. They didn't see a lot of people while they were going to the residential areas. Well, the military base was very wide, as it seemed that it could easily accommodate 50,000 people and more if they used their space as living areas.
Knowing that Treyton and his team were related to the army in the north and that they were only going to stay for a day, the soldiers that were guiding them assigned them to a big house, which was still fully equipped and didn't have any problems.
He and Treyton, of course, picked the biggest room in the house while the others decided which room they would stay in by themselves.
Treyton didn't even rest in their temporary house. As soon as they put their things in their room, Treyton and Zam immediately followed the other soldiers to meet the general they were talking about.
Treyton and Zam went out while all the others started doing their own things.
As soon as the three kids finished exploring the house, they began pestering Calvin, who was reading a book to teach them something new.
Ava and Nathan were talking about some things while the others were either practicing or doing their other jobs, just like Samuel and Aldo, who were tinkering with some tech parts.
As for himself, he was busy reading comics while growing lettuce that he was dipping with a dressing that Nina prepared.
After almost 3 hours, Treyton and Zam finally returned from visiting the general of the military base they were in.
After staying with the others for an hour, he returned to their room and continued reading comics on their bed.
So, when he saw Treyton enter their room, he turned around and asked, "So, did you learn anything useful?"
Treyton didn't reply; instead, he walked over to him and pulled him in for an intense kiss. Luciel also responded properly to Treyton's clinging kiss. He could tell that Treyton's kiss wasn't of passion but more of a kiss seeking comfort and a place to hold on.
He wasn't sure what prompted Treyton to initiate such a kiss, but their deal was for him to help Treyton keep his sanity intact, so he responded to Treyton's kisses until he was satisfied and let him go.
"What's up?" Luciel asked while still taking in some air because they kissed for a long time.
"Nothing. I just realized that I really might have lost a lot of people I know because of this sudden apocalyptic world.
General Brown told me that only 40% remained out of all the soldiers in this base. It just dawned on me again that even if I return north, I might only see a few people I'm familiar with," Treyton said while still half hugging him on the bed.
"Well, a lot of people certainly lost their lives. Other people don't even have people they are familiar with.
So, isn't it better to just be glad that you know that a few more people survived than to count how many people you lost?
If you keep that mindset, you will still lose your sanity later, even if I stay with you," Luciel said while looking directly at Treyton.
Treyton would surely meet a lot more people, and a lot would certainly die at the hands of their enemies. So, Treyton can't keep his sanity if he keeps on counting deaths.
In the original novel, Treyton's people kept dying for different reasons; that's why, in the end, Treyton indeed became one of the strongest people, but his personality became extreme.
"I know, I'm only thinking about it this time. Afterwards, I won't think about such things anymore," Treyton answered.
"That better be the case. So, did you learn anything useful aside from the mortality rate of this base?" Luciel asked again.
"I didn't gain much. I just confirmed that even the special communication devices that the army has weren't working, so all communications with other people really aren't possible for a while.
According to their research, the sudden surge of the unknown energy on our planet disturbed the stable signal frequencies, which was why all signal transmission was interrupted."
"I see."
"The general also shared the location of some small military warehouses on our way north."
"Oh, they're willing to share such resources?"
"He only shared the location of some small warehouses that were very far from here already and just those on our way north.
So, it isn't really a big loss, even if he shared them with us.
And he was only willing to share it with us because it is one of his payments."
"Payment for what?"
"I shared how to strengthen superpowers, so of course he had to pay for it."
"You shared all of it?"
"Yeah, they were just using repeated practice to strengthen their abilities, so I told them the other two methods."
"What else did you ask for?"
"I asked for some of their military RV's and additional supplies."
"They have military RV's here?" Luciel asked.
He did not care about the supplies that Treyton mentioned but just asked about the RV.
"Of course they have, because some people of the base bought them on their own. They'll just have to compensate the owners and give us the cars if the owners are still present," Treyton said.
"Ah, we finally have some RV's to use," Luciel said with a smile.
He could finally have a more relaxing travel time and wouldn't need to worry about not being able to stretch his legs while inside the car.
