Chapter 311: Luciel in action 10
Treyton's method naturally consumed more of his own strength, making him slower in setting up the covers. That was also why Luciel had stepped in to help, even though he had seen Treyton handling it on his own.
If Treyton really had to set up all the protective covers around the base walls by himself, his combat effectiveness would surely plummet.
It was better for Treyton to stay active in battle, as his offensive abilities and lethality were extremely high.
It's better for Luciel to have more people like Treyton who could kill a lot of birds so that Luciel could also rest earlier.
However, Luciel knew that he probably wouldn't get the chance to rest. He could clearly see how desperate the others were as they tried to stop the birds and drive them away from the base.
Treyton and the others were obviously already exhausted from fighting the first batch of birds.
Even though their abilities were several times stronger than those of the other ability users in the North Base, it was obvious that they would also run out of energy after continuously fighting wave after wave of birds.
During the attack of the first flock of birds, Luciel had already seen them rotating shifts to replenish their energy.
But this time, they didn't even stop fighting to rest; they just continued, absorbing zombie crystals while still in battle.
While absorbing zombie crystals, they used guns and swords to fight off the birds surrounding them.
They were all fighting desperately, so Luciel couldn't just leave them and go rest.
If he wasn't familiar with them, and if they weren't the people helping him live comfortably, he wouldn't have cared about any of their actions at all.
Because of them, he had been able to live leisurely for the past few months, of course, aside from a few events that had forced him to take action.
However, those situations were rare, so most of the time, Luciel had been able to live lazily while the others worked hard so he was able to maintain the peaceful life he was enjoying.
They had done well over the past few months, and that was also one of the reasons why Luciel was willing to use the vines with his stored energy to create protective covers in the places important to Treyton and the rest of the team.
He definitely wouldn't have cared if they were just fighting hard to protect other people.
They were the ones who wanted to keep fighting, but in doing so, they might die trying to protect the people they cared about.
That was why Luciel used up a large portion of his stored vines to protect the areas they were most concerned about. He didn't want them to die.
It would be far more troublesome for him in the future if they actually did.
Luciel also understood that they wouldn't stop fighting, no matter what. So he already knew he probably wouldn't be able to rest until either the birds left or were completely wiped out.
"It seems like you really stored a lot of plant energy in the vines you were growing," Treyton said after glancing at the parts of the wall where Luciel had set up protective covers.
"Yes, I did store a lot of energy," Luciel replied, still killing some of the birds around him. "But I've used up a lot of it already."
"Do you still have some left? Can you also cover our villa area?" Treyton asked, casting a look his way before releasing another attack with his lightning ability.
"Don't worry about it. I already used up a lot of the vines I had to cover the villa, the hospital, and the military area. Haven't you seen it yet? If you just looked around a bit, you'd see those areas are already covered in vines."
"I haven't had time to look," Treyton said. "The birds are blocking most of the view, and I had to rush to build protective covers for the soldiers here. I was already planning to head to the villa to check it out after I finished setting things up here, so I didn't bother looking and just focused on building the metal covers."
"Oh, I see."
Luciel knew Treyton was obviously lying.
Luciel already knew that Treyton cherished his people very much. He also treated his family members very well, so he probably didn't even dare to look inside the base.
Treyton had likely focused on building metal covers and fighting the birds on the walls because he knew that if he looked, he might be tempted to just go to the villa area first.
"So, are you still going to the villa?" Luciel asked.
"No need. You already took care of all the places I wanted to go to, so I can just stay here and keep fighting these damn birds," Treyton replied, electrocuting another one with his lightning ability.
"Why are there even so many of these damn birds anyway? Humanity's population has already dropped so much, but just looking at the number of hawks attacking us, it feels like their numbers are still going strong."
"Yeah, right," Luciel said in agreement.
The bird population had probably dropped too, but it wasn't as obvious because they were swarming together, making their numbers look overwhelming. It was the same as how the base still looked like it had a lot of people. If you didn't compare it to the past, the difference wasn't immediately noticeable.
Treyton likely knew that too. He just wanted to vent his frustration.
Before Luciel could say anything more, they spotted a group of the largest birds attacking nearby.
So, both of them stopped talking to each other, and both of them rushed to where the large birds were and started attacking them.
They didn't bother coordinating with each other because there was no need. Their attacks were already powerful enough on their own to take down one or more birds without needing to team up.
After dealing with those large birds, Luciel and Treyton split up; both of them went around killing the large birds near the wall.
