Chapter 68: Drunk Ye Weiyang, Cai'er's Visit!

Although she phrased it as a question, Ye Weiyang had already opened the bottle and handed it to Lin Ze.

He took the beer, and after a brief glance at her, he said with faint surprise, "You seem... a little different from before."

"Really?" Ye Weiyang brushed her long hair away from her eyes, her collarbone faintly exposed as she sat casually beside him, crossing her legs.

The slit in her crimson cheongsam slid open slightly, revealing smooth, pale thighs—curved and supple.

Turning to Lin Ze, her smile flirtatious, she said, "Tell me—exactly how am I different?"

"…Less hypocritical," he replied bluntly.

Ye Weiyang blinked, speechless for a moment.

After a beat, she chuckled and held his gaze. "Is that why you avoided me before?"

Then she sighed. "Honestly, I don't like that fake smiling either. But for the sake of appearances and social connections, sometimes I have no choice. I wish I had strength like yours—to fight demons on the front lines instead of faking smiles at parties."

Her voice dipped into something softer, more vulnerable. "But… my talent is limited. My spiritual power is too weak. I'll never break through to the third level."

"I'm only here because my awakened ability was mental power... and, well—my appearance helped. That's how I became the top auctioneer of the Holy Alliance Auction House."

Lin Ze didn't speak immediately. He simply listened, as Ye Weiyang sipped her drink with a trace of self-deprecation.

"If you don't like it, why not just change jobs?" he asked.

Ye Weiyang tapped the side of her beer can thoughtfully.

"…It's not that I dislike it," she said after a pause. "I actually enjoy being busy. Makes life feel full. And besides, Ling'er—she's like my sister. We grew up together. Now that she's taking over the Auction House, I want to help her however I can."

Then she turned to him with a soft smile. "This is the first time I've told anyone this. Not even Ling'er knows."

"So how about this? Since I opened up to you, why don't you tell me who you're looking for?"

Lin Ze looked at her quiet smile—genuine, not the kind she wore on stage.

"…Miss Weiyang," he said softly, "it's better if you don't know anything about me. It's safer for both of us. I'll drink with you—but that's all I can do."

She waved it off with a grin. "Don't call me 'Miss Weiyang'. We're friends now, aren't we? Just call me Weiyang."

She raised an eyebrow and teased, "If you won't tell me, then let's make a deal: if I get drunk and do something stupid, you can't hold it against me."

She winked playfully.

Ye Weiyang had been around alcohol long enough to trust her tolerance. She was sure she could outdrink him—and then dig out the truth while he was tipsy.

With a snap of her fingers, dozens of colorful, exotic liquor bottles appeared on the table.

Lin Ze laughed lightly. "The condition is: can you even drink more than me?"

He had the blood of Taotie. Drinking? It was child's play.

Perfect for killing time.

One hour later...

Ye Weiyang was slumped over the couch, completely drunk, mumbling incoherently.

Lin Ze waved his hand, and all the bottles and glasses vanished from the table.

He said calmly to the empty air: "You've been watching for a while. Want to come out now?"

There was a pause.

Then, slowly, a figure materialized a few meters away—Cai'er, still wearing her veil.

Even though Lin Ze had known from the start she was following him, seeing her so close made his heart skip.

Yes. There was no doubt now.

The girl in front of him was Cai'er.

Though five years had passed, her eyes hadn't changed. Her purple hair, once short, now flowed past her waist—but those eyes still held the same quiet depth.

To Lin Ze, Cai'er wasn't just someone from the past.

She was family—one of the few people who gave him warmth without expecting anything in return.

Even though they'd only been together for a year, Cai'er had shown him what it meant to simply care, without motive or condition.

His heart trembled.

But he quickly steadied himself.

She probably didn't remember him.

Calming his breath, Lin Ze asked gently, "You followed me all the way from the auction house. Is there something you want to say to me?"

Cai'er hesitated. She herself didn't quite know why she had followed him—it had just... happened.

Eventually, she pointed to the ring on his hand.

Lin Ze lifted his hand and asked, "This ring?"

She nodded silently.

"Can't speak?" he asked.

Cai'er nodded again.

And then—she frowned slightly. Why did I just respond to him so naturally?

Even when her own parents tried to speak with her, she'd ignore them.

So why was she so instinctively responding to this boy?

Lin Ze smiled faintly and held out his palm.

"Then write what you want to say here."

Cai'er hesitated, but took a small step forward. She raised her hand and gently touched his.

Her fingers traced soft strokes on his palm.

"Why do you have my ring…?"

"Because," Lin Ze replied softly, "you put it on me yourself."

Cai'er froze.

"…I gave it to you?"

She tilted her head, blinking in confusion.

Looking up at Lin Ze's warm expression, her fingers continued to move.

"Did we know each other before? You feel familiar. Strange… but familiar."

"This ring… is very important to me. Why would I give it to you?"

She wrote everything swirling in her heart.

The confusion. The doubt.

And Lin Ze stood there, hand outstretched, quietly taking it all in—like five years hadn't passed at all.
