Chapter 9: Broken trust and daydreaming
He again got in his car and started driving towards the destination. He was alone but still he wanted to listen to some music. It brings some peace in his chaotic life.
He turned on the radio and a familiar song came up, a song that used to be their song.
Everything they were together, they would listen to it and enjoy each other's company.
The relationship between them wasn't physical back then. All they ever did was hold each other's hands.
And it was the most intimate thing for them. It was enough to make both of them shy but after so many years, lots of things have changed.
They can't even recognize themselves anymore. The person they were before and the person they are now, there's a huge difference.
The person they were before was full of dreams, they were innocent and still dreamt of a happily ever after.
They cared about fairy tales despite being born in a world full of horror stories. They were hopeful but the person they are now is totally opposite.
They don't care about fairy tales anymore. They give priority to reality. They aren't as shy as they used to be before.
They were much bolder than before. If the teenager meets the adult them then they are going to die from a heart attack.
They are unrecognizable.
From being shy to the slightest touch to f*cking around without any care about this world, they grew up.
Whatever it was, it was them now and they couldn't change a single thing, not that they wanted to.
The previous them were too precious for this world. They were easily hurt and were easier to kill.
Hence, their happiness was killed miserably. They were robbed of their smiles, peace, and happiness.
Their current version was created to protect that prior version that is still alive deep inside of their hearts.
While remembering everything, he suddenly started feeling angry at himself for not having enough courage to fight for his happiness earlier.
He could have taken a firm step to secure a future with her but he was too busy trying to be his father's favorite child, despite him being the only child.
He was busy fighting for a title with nobody there to give him competition. He was running after an empty road and on the way, he lost himself.
He was driving too fast. The acceptable rate was long crossed. He didn't care whether he dies or lives.
He was angry at himself and it seemed like the only way to relieve his stress, for now.
All of a sudden another car got in his way. He pressed the break so hard that had he not tied the seatbelt, he would have collided with the mirror and gotten injured.
The car before his eyes were too familiar. He has seen it more than his own face in the mirror.
It belongs to her, it belongs to Veronica.
He got out of his car and Veronica's car door opened as well.
"If you want to join me for a car racing then I am ready but doing a solo car race in the middle of the street is such a dumb decision. Your life might not be important but you can get others killed," she said in a bored tone.
This irritated him more than he would like to admit. He wanted her to worry about him but she always acts as if she doesn't care whether he was alive or not.
Or maybe it was because of past incidents. She cared too much. She cared so much that she was ready to risk everything and she did end up risking her everything but the outcome was zero.
He didn't care about her enough. Her heart was broken into billion pieces but he wasn't there for her to gather them together and glue them back.
He silently watched everything. Caring too much got her nowhere and now she's learned her lesson.
The more you care about something, the more life f*cks you up with that thing and that's why she has stopped caring.
Or maybe she has just stopped expressing that she still cares. It was a tough decision to make.
"I won't cause any accident. I have full trust in my driving skills but why did you come in the middle out of nowhere?"
"Maybe I just wanted to kill you. It could be that I have already joined hands with your enemies and I am doing all of this to get information out of you. Maybe I want to destroy you as much as they do. Or even more," she said, directly looking into his eyes.
Their face was too close. They could feel each other's breath on their faces.
"Or maybe you want to get destroyed with me. Maybe you want to go down with me. Maybe you want us to be forever together," he said with the same intensity.
"Fairy tales ain't real. You would wait for it your entire life but in the end, you would be left with nothing but disappointment. You would be left out alone to cry your heart out until there's nothing left. While you are going to wait for your fairy tales, the nightmares of reality are going to consume you wholly. You would wait and wait and wait but there's no happily ever after in this world."
Her tone was firm but he could feel the pain she was hiding behind her strong facade. She still hasn't healed from whatever has happened to her.
Her strong girl facade was there to protect her. Deep inside, she was just as broken if not more.
"But I can trust, right? I can have faith in destiny. It would surely do something about everything," he said.
"Trusting on something won't get you anywhere. In the end, you are only going to break your own heart with your high expectations. There's still time, stop dreaming."
