Chapter 46
Chapter 46: Crying After Waking Up
Sure enough, only Class A enjoys the privilege of a 100% graduation and employment rate.
Hikigaya sighed inwardly, once again confirming his initial guess about the school. Only the winners could hold power and enjoy the material benefits of the school, while the losers had to serve as stepping stones at the bottom, living a life that was nominally “free” but in reality “charitable.”
Almost every student entering this school carries a strong desire for the future. Yet, now, Chabashira-sensei had completely shattered this hope. Compared to the lack of individual points, this blow was much heavier and more profound.
The Advanced Training High School’s 100% graduation and employment rate might not attract the attention of the upper class, as it is more of a finishing touch. But for the middle class and the majority of ordinary people, it was a life-saving gesture, a crucial ticket to success.
Even after entering society, the identity of a graduate from this high-performing school was an invisible asset. Graduates could gain recognition from alumni from the same institution, such as those in the Akamon clan, Mita clan, Inamune clan, and so on. Particularly for ordinary people hoping to go into politics, this “identity” was of great importance.
Perhaps the high school students here hadn’t realized this relationship yet, but since they were here, their subconscious mind naturally carried the desire to achieve their aspirations through this school.
In Haruno’s words, this school was like a “Holy Grail” that could fulfill wishes, but to obtain the “Holy Grail,” one had to participate in the Holy Grail War, which aligned perfectly with the school’s founding philosophy: only the final victor could have their wishes fulfilled.
But for a certain dead-eyed boy, this speech barely had any impact. What a joke—if a lone wolf like him were to be knocked down by just a few words, his grave would already be overgrown with grass!
Moreover, he had no particularly strong desires for the future, and naturally, no weaknesses. Or rather, the things he wanted were things this school could never offer him.
Looking around at the D-class students, most of them wearing painful masks, Hikigaya surprisingly felt a sense of joy. They were merely frogs in the mud, yet they still acted as if they were above everyone else.
People should recognize themselves for who they truly are.
Everyone was immersed in a dream, unwilling to wake up, but now Chabashira-sensei had played the song of the dead for D-class. It was time to return to reality!
Perhaps Chabashira-sensei thought the impact wasn’t enough, so she brought out a big hammer to strike the students of D-class.
A new poster was stuck to the blackboard.
“This is the result of last Friday’s quiz. The ranking and numbers should be common knowledge for you, right?”
The poster showed the quiz scores, and the performance of each student was immediately clear. There was no such thing as “privacy” for their results. The top three ranked students were Horikita, Koenji, and a student named Yukimura. Hikigaya quickly spotted his own name, ranked eighth.
It was clear that the focus of this poster wasn’t on the high-performing students but on those who ranked at the bottom. Even though the quiz was an easy one that any average middle school student could pass with minimal effort, the results showed that many students scored around 60 points. Hikigaya estimated the class average was around 65 points, which was still a bit difficult to achieve.
But even more difficult was the dead-last student, the explosive temper boy, Sudo, who scored a mere 14 points!
The monkey brothers, Ike and Yamauchi, were no better off. Ike barely scored more than Sudo with 24 points.
“If this were a formal exam, seven of you would be expelled,” Chabashira-sensei slammed her hand on the blackboard, the loud sound making everyone jump in surprise.
“Expelled?!”
Several students changed their expressions upon hearing this, but Chabashira-sensei acted as if she had forgotten to mention something. She then gave a half-smile and said, “Oh, did I forget to mention that? Well, from now on, remember this: if any student fails a subject in the mid-term or final exams, congratulations—you can leave right away!”
With that, Chabashira-sensei drew a red line at the 32-point mark. Below the line were the seven students who had failed.
Hikigaya couldn’t help but think to himself, Good grief!
Not only were there seven students who had failed, but the fact that there was an actual “expulsion” system left him shocked.
Hikigaya had considered the possibility of rewards for the best students and individual points as a reward for excellence. There should also be a punishment system for underperforming students to make the system complete.
For a situation like Class D, which was bad enough to give anyone a headache, if the consequence was just living a free life for three years and graduating, that would be too light a punishment.
Until now, Hikigaya realized that the school’s true punishment system was… expulsion?!
Being expelled for failing a subject was unheard of in any other school, but in this school, where ability is everything, it seemed both logical and unexpected.
At first, Hikigaya had found the situation amusing, but now, when it involved expulsion, he looked at the D-class students with a sense of pity.
Why could students like Ike and Yamauchi accept being called the worst students so easily? It was because the label didn’t have any devastating impact on their campus life. Whether they got into Class A or not didn’t matter—they could still coast through. But expulsion was a whole different story!
So when Chabashira-sensei mentioned expulsion, the first to start protesting were the monkey brothers and Sudo.
“Clowns!” Hikigaya thought, feeling speechless. Ike, Yamauchi, and the others protested, but Chabashira-sensei never even glanced at them, completely ignoring them.
While cleaning up, Chabashira-sensei didn’t forget to add another jab: “By the way, the mid-term exams will be in three weeks. As for the consequences of failing, I think I’ve already made it clear. If you’re still unclear, that just means you’re not suited for this school. Do your best, though; I believe you can avoid failing.”
Chabashira-sensei finished packing up her things and headed for the door. Before leaving, she turned around and coldly sneered at the D-class students, saying, “Of course, that’s assuming you can actually do it.”
With that, she turned and left without a second glance, leaving D-class in chaos behind her.
Hello everyone! I’m VarieTL. I hope you are enjoing my work! I only wanted to say that I have started another Fanfiction about Hachiman In the classroom of the Elite!

After being hospitalized for three weeks due to a car accident, Hikigaya Hachiman thought he had missed his chance to integrate into his class.
However, the principal handed him a special recommendation letter.
It suggested that he enroll in Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing High School, which started its academic year in May.
Determined not to be isolated and pressured by his younger sister to make friends, Hachiman took the plunge.
And so, he finally gained friends.
Karuizawa Kei: “Well, since you’re my ‘host,’ it’s only natural for us to interact more, right?”
Sakayanagi Arisu: “You seem troubled by your ordinariness. I have a reliable plan to ensure the next generation is nothing short of genius.”
Horikita Suzune: “I tried making a bento yesterday… If you don’t mind, would you like to have it?”
Kushida Kikyo: “Now that I know so many of your secrets, and you’ve grasped mine, it looks like we’re stuck together.”
And then—
Komachi: “…Onii-chan, this doesn’t sound like friendship at all!”
