There is something wrong with Hikigaya’s classroom of the Elite, as expected

Chapter 37

Chapter 37: The Ability to Correct

The student council is not a good job, it’s actually a very thankless and exhausting task.

At this stage, the decision to join the student council is usually driven by a strong purpose, aside from those who genuinely want to serve their fellow students.

Now, three weeks into the school year, there are likely quite a few students who have realized that something is off with the school. Students like Yukinoshita, who have discovered the truth about the school, certainly exist as well.

Thus, the students who appeared for today’s student council interview, including Hikigaya, also have some strong personal motives, not to mention the other students from different classes.

“Everyone’s thoughts are similar; they all joined the student council in hopes of gaining an advantage in the future,” Hikigaya said, observing Yukinoshita’s expression as he spoke.

“There’s nothing wrong with this idea itself, after all, everyone has guessed that the student council holds a very important role in this school. Is it a right granted by the school?”

At this point, Hikigaya nodded, but then immediately shook his head. “Yes, but more importantly, it should be the ‘mission’ the school has given it. The school has set up rules like the ‘S system’ with the goal of cultivating the best students. The student council’s ‘mission’ is naturally the same. So, Yukinoshita, what do you think the student council should do to fulfill this ‘mission’? What role should it play in this process?”

“I don’t know~”

Yukinoshita’s answer was exactly what Hikigaya expected, so he continued, “It’s the executor. The student council is supposed to carry out the educational policies from the school level down to the student level. Normally, that’s what everyone would think, but what happens if there are problems in the implementation of these policies?”

Yukinoshita’s expression finally changed, and she looked at Hikigaya with an appreciative gaze.

Naturally, Hikigaya didn’t expect Yukinoshita to answer. After sipping his coffee to moisten his throat, he looked at her with a stern expression and slowly began, “So… I believe the true role of the student council is not for students to gain access to special information or benefits ahead of others, but rather its ‘corrective’ ability!”

Hikigaya’s words initially sounded a bit confusing. That’s because they could only see a circle in front of them, but not the fact that it was actually a sphere.

It was obvious that Yukinoshita also saw the “sphere” on the other side.

Clap! Clap! Clap!

Yukinoshita clapped her hands, and the smile on her face grew even more pronounced.

“Sure enough, I wasn’t wrong. Hikigaya-kun, you really are impressive.”

A meaningful smile appeared on Yukinoshita’s lips. “That’s right, everyone only sees the advantages and benefits that the student council can bring them, but they don’t truly realize the real function of the student council for this school and for the students.”

“However, your idea is very dangerous!”

Hikigaya sighed.

“Oh? Could it be that Hikigaya-kun has guessed what I’m trying to do?” Yukinoshita said with a half-smile.

Hikigaya shook his head. “I don’t know. I just have a feeling.”

In fact, Hikigaya lied again.

Just as Yukinoshita had said, the real function of the student council lay in its ability to “correct.” Any plan or guideline is designed to be perfect, but there are always inevitable problems when executing it. When such problems arise, naturally, there needs to be a corresponding solution to handle them.

The student council’s existence is precisely that — a “corresponding solution” to handle the various problems that may arise during implementation.

On a practical level, this could involve handling student assessments, class evaluation plans, or rules for exams, and so on.

This was what Hikigaya referred to as the “corrective” ability. Upon realizing this, Hikigaya immediately felt a chill on his back. This was also why he hadn’t pointed this out during the interview.

The position of student council president, to some extent, symbolizes power. Every move made will unconsciously affect all students.

As for Yukinoshita, with her love for causing trouble and her completely unpredictable personality, Hikigaya could already foresee a terrifying outcome.

“Heh heh, it seems like Hikigaya-kun is really good at the art of playing dumb!” Yukinoshita seemed in a very good mood, even sitting down next to Hikigaya and starting to hum lightly.

“Yukinoshita-san, please be mindful of your image!” Hikigaya’s face stiffened.

“Even though we’re already in the same boat, you’re still calling me so formally,” Yukinoshita expressed her dissatisfaction. “You know, every time you say ‘Yukinoshita, Yukinoshita,’ it makes me feel uncomfortable.”

At this point, Yukinoshita smiled brightly. “Compared to ‘Yukinoshita,’ I prefer the name ‘Haruno.’ From now on, just call me that.”

Don’t call me Yukinoshita, call me Haruno.

For a moment, Hikigaya seemed to drift into a memory. It felt as though he had once heard a woman, exactly like the one before him, say the same words.

“Eh? Why are you suddenly spacing out? Could it be that you’re moved to tears because it’s ‘your first time calling a girl by her name’?” Yukinoshita waved her hands in front of Hikigaya’s face, widening her eyes, looking very “shocked.”

“H-How could that be!” Hikigaya snapped out of his trance, his neck reddening as he retorted, “My first time was with Komachi!”

“Looks like I really need to call the police now! You’re a sis-con!” Yukinoshita replied.

“Haruno, it’s not a crime for a brother to love his sister!” Hikigaya declared with a righteous tone.

“Haruno, why are you so familiar with saying it like that on the first try?” Yukinoshita crossed her arms, looking like she had goosebumps all over.

Hikigaya almost spat out blood in frustration. “I didn’t say it like that! It’s you who requested it!”

“Hmph! You’re definitely feeling smug about this right now, aren’t you? Definitely!” Yukinoshita puffed up her cheeks, looking upset.

Hikigaya opened his mouth but couldn’t find anything to say.

Because you should never argue with a woman.

“Tch~ Hikigaya-kun, your reaction is so small, like a virgin! I try to cooperate with you, and you pretend you don’t see it!” Yukinoshita seemed extremely dissatisfied and irritated.

But the next second, her expression immediately became serious. “Let’s talk about something more important.”

Yukinoshita’s quick change in mood left Hikigaya dumbfounded. Indeed, every time he saw it, he felt that women were truly mysterious creatures.

“Regarding this student council interview, I believe you’ve seen it. Our class’s Katsuragi, B-class’s Ichinose, and Kanzaki are all very outstanding students, with natural advantages both in academics and other aspects. I can give you a little hint: the competition for the student council is extremely fierce, and there will probably only be one or two spots available, so your chances are very slim.”

Yukinoshita sighed.
