Chapter 152
Chapter 152: An Unexpected Guest?
Kushida felt a chill run down her spine as she realized an invisible hand seemed to be manipulating everything behind the scenes.
She initially thought Ayanokouji’s five-day suspension was Hikigaya’s ultimate goal. However, after carrying out his instructions last night and witnessing today’s clash between Class D and Class B, she realized she had completely misjudged his intentions.
Ayanokouji’s punishment was merely one step in the plan—the true goal was to utterly ruin his reputation.
What Hikigaya had her do was simple: just inform Class B students about what had happened at the Special Teaching Building last night. And as a result, today’s confrontation unfolded right before her eyes.
“But I didn’t expect this to be your real motive. I really wonder what that expressionless guy Ayanokouji did to piss you off so much.”
Hearing Kushida’s remark, Hikigaya lifted his head and looked at her, his tone calm:
“You already know the answer to that, don’t you?”
Kushida was taken aback for a moment before she let out a cold snort.
“Tch, isn’t it just because you found out that Sakura is a gravure model? What’s the big deal about that?”
She grumbled under her breath, her voice barely audible:
“Mine’s not small either…”
“What was that last part? I didn’t catch it.”
“I said, you guys always let your little head do the thinking for your big head!” Kushida snapped.
She didn’t even realize the slightly sour tone in her voice.
Hikigaya, already used to her sharp tongue, wasn’t fazed.
“But honestly, the one who’s in the worst position now is Sudo. He was the root cause of all this, yet no one even remembers what happened to him anymore—his suspension, his basketball issues… all forgotten.”
Speaking of Sudo, Kushida suddenly recalled something else:
“By the way, was Ike and Yamauchi’s involvement also part of your plan?”
In Kushida’s eyes, Sudo had only himself to blame for his misfortune. But Ike and Yamauchi? Those two idiots had completely brought this upon themselves. Still, she wanted to know whether Hikigaya had orchestrated their downfall as well.
“No.”
Hikigaya shook his head.
“I was actually surprised those two got caught up in it. Just bad luck for them.”
That said, he had no intention of letting those two go to waste. They had basically walked into his trap on their own, and he simply used them to add more trouble for Ayanokouji.
But then, those two morons took things even further, completely catching Hikigaya off guard. Not only did they surprise him with their sheer stupidity, but they also managed to earn themselves a two-week suspension—an outcome he hadn’t even predicted.
Kushida couldn’t help but laugh at that. She had always found those two annoying, and now they had successfully screwed themselves over.
At that moment, a voice suddenly interrupted them.
“Mind if I join you two for a meal?”
A tall, second-year male student with short blond hair had already seated himself at their table. His eyes scanned Kushida with an amused expression before shifting to Hikigaya.
“Girlfriend? You’ve got good taste.”
“Vice President Nagumo, you misunderstand. We’re just friends,” Hikigaya replied calmly.
Sitting across from him was Nagumo Miyabi, one of the two vice presidents of the student council and a student from Class 2-A. As Hikigaya spoke, he studied the upperclassman carefully.
Their encounters were few and far between. In fact, Hikigaya could hardly recall any direct interactions with Nagumo before this. Even in the student council office, Nagumo was rarely present. The only time Hikigaya typically saw him was during the monthly summary meetings.
Despite his limited involvement, Hikigaya was aware of the power struggle within the student council—one that pitted Nagumo against Horikita Manabu. However, whether in terms of reputation or authority, Horikita had always kept Nagumo under control.
But with the third-year students approaching graduation, Horikita’s influence over Nagumo would only continue to wane.
That was why Hikigaya was uncertain about Nagumo’s sudden interest in him.
Or rather… what exactly was the reason for the other party to seek him out privately?
“After all, even girlfriends start out as just ordinary friends.”
Nagumo Miyabi chuckled. “And with such a lively and adorable underclassman like her, I’m sure she has plenty of admirers. You’d better not let someone else swoop in first. If you lose the duck already at your mouth, you’ll regret it.”
“You really like to joke around, don’t you, senpai? Hachiman-kun and I are just classmates who happened to run into each other and decided to eat together, that’s all~”
Kushida wore a shy expression, but Hachiman could still faintly detect a flash of irritation in her gaze.
After all, Nagumo’s words had been far too frivolous—especially saying something like that right in front of a girl. The only reason Kushida didn’t snap back at him on the spot was likely because of the way Hachiman had addressed him as “Vice President” just now.
Vice President of the Student Council, short yellow hair, second-year—these keywords immediately reminded Kushida of something. She had heard Nagumo Miyabi’s name before from a few upperclassmen girls, and what she had heard was that this guy was a complete player.
Judging by his flippant tone and words just now, Nagumo Miyabi was indeed just as the rumors described—a total womanizer!
“Kushida, didn’t you say earlier that you had an appointment with someone else?”
Hachiman suddenly spoke up.
“Oh no, I almost forgot!”
Kushida immediately caught the underlying message in Hachiman’s words. She quickly put on a “silly and forgetful” expression, apologized to Nagumo, and then stood up to leave—leaving only Hachiman and Nagumo at the table.
As he watched Kushida’s departing figure, Nagumo raised an eyebrow and let out a whistle. Then, he turned back to Hachiman with a smirk.
“From my experience, that little kouhai of yours is probably completely inexperienced. You’d better make your move before someone else does.”
Hachiman frowned slightly. “Vice President Nagumo, don’t you think these words are a bit inappropriate coming from a student council officer?”
“Heh, what’s appropriate or not doesn’t matter. If anyone has an issue with it, they’re free to come and complain to me.”
Nagumo’s expression was completely indifferent. “Of course, I was just joking. But unlike the President, who’s always wearing that stiff face and acting all serious, I believe in blending in with the students, getting close to them, understanding their needs, and then… serving them better.”
Nagumo made no effort to conceal his true nature. His tone was full of frivolity and casualness, but beneath it all, what stood out even more was his condescending arrogance, his disdain for others, and… his utter self-confidence.
“So, Vice President Nagumo, may I ask if there’s something you needed regarding student council matters?”
At the same time, Hachiman realized that Nagumo had come to him with a specific purpose in mind, so he decided to cut straight to the chase.
“Heh, yes, it is a student council matter.”
Nagumo’s smile disappeared instantly, and his expression sharpened as he stared at Hachiman.
“It’s about the basketball club!”
