Chapter 150
Chapter 150: Am I a Bad Woman?
“Chihiro?”
Ichinose was startled by the sudden appearance of Shiranami Chihiro.
“It’s okay, Honami, I-I’ll protect you!”
Shiranami Chihiro turned to Ichinose, trying her best to say something reassuring. But her trembling little body betrayed her true feelings. Even so, she still stood firmly in front of Ichinose without backing down.
“I-I know you! You’re the student council’s Hikigaya! I-I’m warning you—you better not bully Honami, or else…”
Even though those dead-fish eyes were terrifying, Shiranami Chihiro still mustered her courage and shouted, “Or else… I’ll tell the teacher!”
Hikigaya: “…”
This girl is way too… straightforward.
She still has that innocent high schooler purity.
Although Hikigaya had never interacted with her before, he recognized her. Shiranami Chihiro from Class B, the girl who was always by Ichinose’s side.
“Y-you better not laugh! I-I’m serious! I really will tell the teacher!”
Shiranami Chihiro’s face turned red. She had clearly caught the fleeting smirk at the corner of Hikigaya’s lips just now and knew exactly what it meant.
And honestly, it wasn’t her fault. Anyone would find this guy’s dead-fish eyes terrifying!
But just then, laughter came from behind her.
Ichinose, who had been in shock, couldn’t help but burst into laughter after hearing what Shiranami Chihiro said.
“H-Honami, even you…?”
Shiranami Chihiro widened her eyes, her small face instantly filled with grievance as she stomped her foot in frustration.
“Alright, alright, Chihiro, I made you worry.”
Ichinose reached out and hugged Shiranami Chihiro in comfort.
Wrapped in Ichinose’s soft embrace, Shiranami Chihiro’s face momentarily melted like cotton candy, but she quickly regained her composure and reluctantly pulled herself away.
“Honami, you’re just too kind and too gentle!”
Shiranami Chihiro frowned, complaining, “That’s why, even when you’re being bullied, you just silently accept it. I could see it clear as day—this guy was bullying you! I even saw him make you cry!”
Ichinose’s face turned red at those words. She quickly wiped away the tear stains on her face and tried to explain, “Chihiro, it’s not what you think. Hikigaya-kun was just trying to comfort me…”
“Honami!”
Hearing Ichinose trying to defend him, Shiranami Chihiro became even more upset. She grabbed Ichinose’s wrist tightly. “Everyone already knows about what happened yesterday. Everyone is really worried about you! We should never have helped those ungrateful people from Class D in the first place! That guy, Ayanokouji or whatever his name is, tricked and used you. You almost got punished by the school!”
After saying that, Shiranami Chihiro shot an angry glare at Hikigaya.
Ichinose blinked in confusion before finally realizing what was going on. She quickly asked Shiranami Chihiro to explain.
With no other choice, Shiranami Chihiro explained the situation.
In short, everyone in Class B already knew about the incident in the special teaching building yesterday. As their leader, Ichinose had been caught up in it. And the mastermind behind it all was none other than a student from Class D—the unknown newcomer, Ayanokouji.
Not only had he used Ichinose, but he had also deceived his own classmates, ultimately causing several students to be suspended—a major incident!
“Now, everyone in our class is furious about what happened! Those guys from Class D are just too much! It’s pure betrayal! I-I was really worried about you, so I came looking for you.”
Shiranami Chihiro glared angrily at Hikigaya.
“And then I saw Honami being bullied by this guy from Class D to the point of tears!”
“I-I wasn’t crying!”
Hearing Chihiro say she had been “crying,” Ichinose immediately broke down. She wasn’t a child anymore! She quickly defended herself, “I-I just got sand in my eyes!”
Listening to the two girls’ conversation, Hikigaya finally couldn’t hold back and let out a small chuckle.
But in the very next second, he was met with two synchronized glares from Ichinose and Shiranami Chihiro. His expression instantly froze.
Hikigaya: “…”
“Anyway, Chihiro, you misunderstood. Things aren’t how you think they are.”
Whether it was yesterday or just now, the words Hikigaya had spoken to Ichinose were incredibly harsh—so harsh that they could even be considered insults. Ichinose knew she should be angry, that she should argue back. But every time she tried to speak, the words got stuck in her throat.
More than that, she found that, strangely, she didn’t feel any anger or resentment at all.
Was it because… she really was as bad as Hikigaya said?
A terrible, awful woman?
Rather than making her furious, Hikigaya’s accusations and scoldings made Ichinose feel as if she was finally beginning to see herself clearly—to recognize who she truly was.
Because she realized that, compared to herself, the boy in front of her seemed to understand her even better.
“H-Honami, he was clearly bullying you, so why are you still defending him…?”
Shiranami Chihiro looked at Ichinose in disbelief. Then, all of a sudden, her face turned deathly pale.
“Wait… d-don’t tell me—you… you like—”
Before she could finish, Ichinose quickly clamped a hand over Chihiro’s mouth.
It was just a suspicion, but Ichinose’s sudden reaction only made Chihiro even more shocked.
Seeing Chihiro’s stunned expression, Ichinose immediately realized that her response had been too extreme. She quickly apologized.
“Chihiro, w-what are you even thinking?! I-I don’t have those kinds of feelings for Hikigaya-kun at all! I-I just… Ugh, I don’t even know how to explain it, but it’s definitely not what you’re imagining!”
As she spoke, Ichinose grew more flustered. Her eyes darted toward a certain someone, sneaking a glance to see if he had any reaction.
But Hikigaya didn’t seem to respond at all.
Ichinose unconsciously let out a small sigh of relief—yet, for some reason, she also felt a vague sense of disappointment.
“Really?”
Chihiro was still skeptical. It took Ichinose grabbing her small hands and repeatedly assuring her before she finally let go of her doubts.
“But still, Honami, you shouldn’t get too close to people from Class D. Who knows when they’ll betray us again?”
Chihiro turned back and shot Hikigaya a fierce (or as fierce as she could manage) glare, as if warning him not to bully her dear Honami again.
Hikigaya completely ignored Chihiro’s so-called “intimidating” gaze and instead looked past her, directly at Ichinose.
“This world has never been kind. So, it’s better if you don’t get too close to me.”
With that, Hikigaya picked up the trash from the table, turned around, and left.
