Chapter 331: Sister's love being weighed.
Alix took everyone to a restaurant that she claimed served the best porridge in the city which was perfect for the cold weather. Nobody argued with her and when they arrived, they ordered from the menu as they pleased.
Because their group was rather large, they had to occupy a private room. Only two people from the original group didn't go with them, Zhang Xian and NaNa. The two chose to go home which was best for everyone for now.
Alix was sitting between Caishen and grandpa Tai. Xiaobo was in her lap, eating the porridge which she was feeding him personally. She even blew on it for him, feeding him as if he was a baby.
The more she acted like his mother, the more grandma Zhang got excited. In fact, grandma Zhang was not the only one picturing imaginary great grandchildren, because the Tai elders were the same, only in their minds, they were picturing a little girl in Xiaobo's place.
"Should we warn her? Every time she treats Xiaobo like a baby, they vibrate with expectations." Mo Qilu whispered to Yura.
They were watching Alix and the elders. Everything that Alix was unaware of or pretending not to be aware of was vivid to them.
Yura shook her head. The assumptions and desires of the elders would not come before the happiness of her only grandchild so far.
"No, Xiaobo is enjoying the care she gives to him willingly. It's not often that he gets to act like that. Before Alix came around, he was forced to act mature so he was always bad tempered. He never mentions his mother. I think Bo forbade him from doing so but he is a child, so how can he not long for a mother's love?"
"What happened to his mother?" Mo Qilu asked curiously.
Both women's eyes trailed to Bo naturally because they were discussing him.
"I don't know. Bo won't talk about her and i have searched but failed to find even one trace of her. I once joked that Xiaobo had been hatched from an egg and Bo said that's how he got him."
Yura sighed and she looked from Bo to Caishen. "One thinks babies are hatched from eggs like chicks and one said his cat is my first grand daughter."
Mo Qilu giggled and her mind traveled to the black cat which Caishen often carried around. She had heard all about the car, the expensive collars, weekly massages and other things Caishen did for the cat.
"Ho! he does treat that cat like a princess."
Yura laughed loudly and she nodded. She was glad too have this new friend that she could complain about her sons to without a worry that she or them would be judged.
She lowered her voice and said, "Right, it is becoming spoiled everyday that passes. It only eats high quality pet food or milk and meat from Alix that she buys for Majesty. It also won't sleep anywhere that is not soft and warm. It knows how to choose what collar it wants for the day. If you pick the wrong one, it hisses and cries loudly."
"Like a true spoiled princess, your Zhang An's spoilt spirit must have been transferred to Baby." Mo Qilu said.
Yura put a hand over her mouth and whispered, "Hey, Baby now refuses to drink tap water, she wants bottled water or nothing. I don't know how she can tell the difference but she does."
Mo Qilu put a hand over her mouth, gasping in shock and both women giggled like teenage girls.
All around the long table, different conversations were taking place. The environment was rather harmonious and positive, devoid of all pretense.
Everyone was smiling, except for Wu Wei. He was sitting between Tai Jiaan and Wei Gang and his eyes were focused on Alix.
Tai Jiaan had long noticed the frown on the face of the boy that he now considered a younger brother and he was very curious about it. For ten minutes, he had been telling the other about his addition to the school swimming team but Wei was absent minded.
"What is wrong, why are you looking at your sister like that?" he shook Wei's shoulder and asked.
"Not her." Wei Gang spoke up, responding to the question.
"Then who?" Tai Jiaan asked.
It didn't cross his mind that it was Alix Wu Wei was frowning at but Xiaobo, after all, the other was young. His young age pretty much made him harmless and innocent.
"Why is she feeding him like that?" Wu Wei mumbled.
"What's wrong with it?" Tai Jiaan asked obliviously.
He had seen Alix carrying Xiaobo around and it was not the first time she was feeding him. Honestly, those two were like mother and son whenever they got together. She treated him the way aunt Mo treated her. In Jiaan's opinion, if aunt Mo could carry Alix around like a child, she would.
"He is not a baby." Wu Wei mumbled.
"Tch! he is a kid,." Jiaan answered.
"But not a baby." Wu Wei emphasized.
"Whatever, why does it bother you so much anyway?" Jiaan asked him.
Jiaan bent his head forward a little so that he could see and listen as Wu Wei replied. The answer came from Wu Gang instead of Wu Wei. And it was not an answer but rather a question.
"Does sister like him more than us?"
Wu Gang's voice was flat, devoid of emotion and genuinely curious. Jiaan was taken aback by the question and he looked at Wu Wei.
He knew that for the two brothers, Alix and Yuewei were the only real relatives they had or considered. Alix had stepped in as their guardian so that made her their mother in a way even though she was their older sister. Each day that passed, their attachment to her grew stronger.
"Is that what's bothering you?" he asked Wu Wei.
Wu Wei rolled his eyes and looked at his porridge bowl. He still felt the urge to mumble, "I am not a child competing for affection. Why would that bother me?"
Jiaan smiled like a wolf. This was a new side to Wu Wei's personality which he had never seen. He always acted responsible and cold as if he didn't care about anything other than Wu Gang. Looking at him now, Jiaan couldn't help thinking that he was still a kid indeed.
"Why? Do you want your sister to carry you and feed you as well?"
"Shut up." Wu Wei hissed at him.
"Ho! You are not a mommy's boy but a sister's boy." Jiaan stuck his tongue out and laughed at Wei.
"Ignore him, you know that sister loves us all equally." Yuewei bent his head in front and said to Wu Wei.
Wu Gang said stiffly, "Sister sneaks into our rooms at night and tucks us in. Then she whispers that she loves us and kisses us on our foreheads."
Jiaan slapped Wu Wei on the back and said, "See, your sister loves you. You can't compare her feelings for you to her feelings for Xiaobo. Remember that he also doesn't have a mother and be generous with your sister's love."
Alix looked up from Xiaobo and her brothers. She decided to be even more affectionate. She would kill them with love.
Her phone vibrated and she picked it up from the table. She had received a message from Jing Hee. After the recent tragedy Billi had suffered, she had unblocked all of them.
She smiled knowingly when she read the message.
"We need to meet."
"It's about time." she mumbled.
