chapter 110
Chapter 35, Fans
The next day.
After completing his final full-body check-up, Mu En was swiftly kicked out of the ward.
The bald middle-aged single doctor seemed quite dissatisfied with Mu En chatting with several beautiful girls in the ward yesterday, and when he sent Mu En away, it was with a sense of impatience.
It was still morning when he left; his senior had classes, and Celicia wouldn’t be able to visit him twice in a row.
So, with no one to greet him, Mu En walked alone toward the dormitory building.
Fortunately, with his hands empty, being alone felt rather easy.
The weather was still nice.
However, just as he stepped onto the forest path leading to the dormitory area, he was stopped by a strange female classmate who seemed to have been waiting here for a long time.
“Mu En Campbell.”
“Uh? Who are you?”
Looking at the girl who suddenly appeared before him, decent-looking, though not quite on par with his senior or Celicia, but at least scoring a seven in his eyes, Mu En couldn’t help but feel a bit anxious.
The newcomer had an imposing aura; could it be that the troubles caused by the original owner were coming back to haunt him, like an ex-girlfriend showing up?
Glancing around, this little grove was indeed a good place to stab a scumbag and dispose of the body.
But Mu En searched through his memories and had no impression of the girl before him.
“Fenny, third year,” the girl introduced herself.
“Is that you, Senior Fanny?” Mu En breathed a sigh of relief. Since she introduced herself, it meant she wasn’t someone Mu En knew, and certainly not an ex-girlfriend.
“Is there something you need, Senior Fanny?”
“I’ll get straight to the point.”
Senior Fanny seemed to have a straightforward personality; she didn’t beat around the bush and looked directly into Mu En’s eyes, asking earnestly:
“Mu En Campbell, do you want to join our Magic Art Society?”
“Magic Art Society?”
Magic Art Society?
What kind of magic art?
Mu En was momentarily stunned.
Then he realized.
The so-called Magic Art Society was actually just the art club, but since it was in a magic academy, it had a very “magical” name.
The club’s activities mainly revolved around studying art. After all, it was a school with quite a few nobles, so normal artistic activities would also exist.
In other words… Senior Fanny was inviting him to join the club?
“Why?”
Mu En couldn’t help but ask:
“My reputation… should have a negative impact on the club, right?”
For a club, a member with a poor reputation might lead to difficulties in recruiting new members.
That’s why Mu En was so surprised at that moment.
“Indeed, Mu En’s reputation isn’t great, but after what happened before, we all feel there might be some misunderstanding.”
Senior Fanny said seriously:
“With someone as handsome and well-built as Mu En, it would be a pity not to have you in our Magic Art Society.”
Handsome and well-built…
Why does it feel like she’s not recruiting for a club, but for a nude model?
Mu En silently complained in his heart.
However, he felt a bit happy.
Since someone invited him to join the club, as the senior said, his image in the eyes of outsiders had indeed changed somewhat.
At least…
He wouldn’t be avoided by those girls like a venomous snake anymore.
This was a very good start.
It was exhilarating.
But…
“I’m sorry, Fanny, but I’ve already been invited to join a club,” Mu En politely declined.
“Oh?”
Fanny seemed a bit surprised:
“Someone was faster than me? Which club?”
“The Ancient Potions Society.”
Mu En replied, then added, “It’s a rather niche club.”
“The Ancient Potions Society… Isn’t that the one run by Anna Carberlin?”
Fanny furrowed her brows, as if recalling something, and said:
“Mu En, while I have no right to dictate your choices, I must remind you that Anna’s reputation among the upperclassmen doesn’t seem to be very good.”
“Not very good… What do you mean?” Mu En’s eyes narrowed slightly, a hint of chill passing through.
“I’m not entirely sure, I just heard some upperclassmen from the same club mention it in passing.”
“Is that so?”
Mu En thought for a moment and smiled: “Thank you for the reminder, Fanny, but I know better than anyone how unreliable rumors can be, so I generally don’t believe such things without witnessing them myself.”
“I see.”
Fanny didn’t say much more, politely nodding to Mu En:
“Sorry to take up your time, Mu En Campbell.”
“No, I’m happy to have been invited.”
“Then goodbye.”
“Goodbye.”
…
After Mu En left.
Suddenly, a few small heads popped up from the bushes behind Fanny.
They were all first-year girls, their faces still bearing the youthful innocence unique to newcomers.
“How did it go, Fanny? Did he agree?” As soon as Mu En was out of earshot, the girls eagerly chattered.
“No, it seems he already has a club to join.”
“What? How can that be?”
A freckled girl lamented:
“Weren’t we told he was disliked by all the girls in the academy? How could someone beat us to it?”
“Exactly…”
Another girl with a bit of baby fat on her face pouted and said:
“Is it because the senior just didn’t make it clear to him that our Magic Painting Society has a lot of pretty girls?”
“I didn’t mention that, but…”
Fanny recalled their previous conversation and said:
“I don’t think someone who gets angry when badmouthing a girl would be temporarily attracted to other girls.”
“Isn’t that Mu En Campbell a scumbag?”
The last girl with twin ponytails huffed angrily:
“So it turns out some gossip girls are just talking nonsense? My family runs a publishing house, so I know those newspapers are unreliable. The moment I saw him in the cafeteria on my first day of school, I knew this Mu En would definitely be a good man.”
“What good man? You’re just a fan of his looks, aren’t you?” said a freckled girl beside her fiercely.
“And his background!” the baby-faced girl added.
“Duchess, that sounds nice…”
“But there are rumors that Mu En Campbell seems to be gay.”
“Isn’t being gay even better? Ah, my nosebleed is coming…”
“What a pity, we couldn’t successfully invite him. If only I could take the chance to appreciate his body under the pretense of painting… Hehe, oh no, my nosebleed is coming too.”
“……”
Fanny looked at the few girls frolicking in front of her, feeling somewhat helpless.
These little girls were quite peculiar in the entire Magic Painting Society; why choose to idolize that infamous Mu En Campbell of all people?
Although he did indeed look impressive during that heroic leap.
But…
After all, he was the one who dared to be completely naked in front of the whole school, and with those previous rumors, no one could say for sure whether he was truly a pervert. Recently, some new claims had emerged suggesting that Mu En Campbell was actually a good person, but she didn’t dare to draw conclusions too early; she was still in a wait-and-see phase.
The reason she would come to invite him was, first, she couldn’t refuse these little sisters, and second, the Magic Painting Society was a large organization with many upperclassmen, so she wasn’t worried about Mu En Campbell causing any trouble.
“But…”
Fanny recalled the brief interaction she had with Mu En earlier and said, somewhat in agreement:
“He really is quite different from the rumors before.”
