Chapter 447: Make An Excuse
(From Blue's Perspective)
"Make an excuse. Go ahead," I said. "I really will believe it."
"I do not have any," he said. "I truly killed him. I killed the King of Lacuna."
"No, it is not what's giving me pain! I am not that sad because of it because I know it happens here all the time among Royals," I said. "But, you could have told me… You know, how it feels to know that someone was killed because of me? There is no other reason for you killing him. You even cut his lips off with which he made a mark on my skin!
Dem, no way in hell, I can say what you did justifies anything! What he did was wrong and could be punished, but surely did not deserve death!"
"He did deserve more than death! The situation could have escalated in the wrong direction if you did not have power!" he yelled. "He could have done a really bad thing! You cannot say he doesn't deserve death!"
I was also aware that how things could have turned out. But I still could not believe that he deserved death.
"If not you, he could have done that to someone else," he added. "Would you have liked that?"
"Of course not!"
"That is just another reason why I cannot apologize for it," he said. "I can never do that."
"Why could you have not told me this then? I…"
"I knew you would react this way."
"Dem… It will be a huge deal if someone finds out…"
"Who will? No one did until now. Even not you," he said. "I could have kept it a secret if you did not teleport there. I should have been more careful."
"That man… I have never seen or heard of him before," I said.
"He is called 'the shadow'."
"Shadow? He is the one who carried out your order?"
"Yes," he nodded, now slowly walking up to me. "He has been working for me for a very long time. It is very unlikely that he can be seen. He is a crazy person and perfect to work for me."
"What do you mean 'crazy'?"
"He has a knack for killing. He has to kill, or he cannot be satisfied," Dem said.
I gasped. "He is also the one who painted on the ceiling of the ballroom," he added.
"What? He painted that?" I asked in surprise. He surely did not seem like the type of guy who had a thing for painting and could do so in such a beautiful way.
Dem gave a positive answer, which was truly shocking.
Although the matter had resolved quite peacefully which I did not imagine would happen. I thought it would be yet another fight that would last at least a week, but that did not happen. I still could not accept his actions and probably would never do as I could not understand his points that well, the way he could not understand mine.
Dem told me the story of the shadow and how only killing people could calm his nerves. It was terrifying and I could not call the shadow something else other than a psychopath who needed therapy, or probably confinement. But he was very useful to Dem and Dem did not want to give him up for anything.
"He has been useful," he said, as he was rubbing his face against my chest while hugging me. "We both were useful to each other. I let him do what he wanted the most and he did my job without any failure."
"Without a doubt, he did everything perfectly," I said, running my fingers through his hair. "How else could someone never know or even suspect you of killing no one but the King of Lacuna? If the Queen of Lacuna knew of her brother's killer and realize that she had been hospitable towards no one but her brother's very killer and his wife… I cannot imagine the shock…!"
Dem's countenance barely showed any sign of discomfort or guilt, as he said, "It happens. If I was to be killed someday, you might treat the killer gently without knowing it was them who killed your husband."
"Don't say it. I will save you," I said. "I will not let someone harm you."
"That surely is pleasant to hear, my love," he chuckled. "But I wish I will not face something that will require you to stress yourself. I would rather have you live in luxury forever, and not bother you about something concerning my safety. I could not ensure the luxury as you always seem to get hurt.
But, I, at least, don't want you to worry about my safety as well, although it won't be too bad to be saved by you. I had already felt the sensation once."
Dem was talking about the time when I killed the man who tried to hurt Dem with a knife. It had always remained in my mind as the only time when I killed someone.
"I wouldn't mind saving you if the time told me so," I said. "I won't find it a bother either. How can I? If I don't save my family, then who?"
"That's true. I would never find saving you a bother either. It, of course, should be the same for you," he said.
"That said, shouldn't we bring Ava here?"
"No, Evelyn says Ava, and they are completely safe and are in Lacuna now," he said. "After staying at Mazazine for quite a long time, they want to stay in Lacuna, until everything is over, or maybe more. But they wish to be here after our child is born. Evelyn had to promise Ava that Ava would be brought here right after you give birth, or she would not go with her parents."
"She is worried about me," I said. "In her letter, she mentioned how much she wanted to be by my side. I am really touched by her innocent love."
"Oh, no, no. It is anything but innocent," he said.
"She is a kid, Dem…!"
"She is a kid of the Easton family. Do not underestimate what a kid of this family can do or think of," he said. "You have no idea how twisted they can get. No, my love, I am not saying that our child would turn out to be that way too.
Although I think it would have some of the common traits of the Easton family, I believe his qualities will mostly depend on how he is raised, which I think will by no means be faulty as you are the mother."

"You have way too high expectations for me. Do not expect too much, as it will disappoint you if I do not meet your expectations."
"Of course not. I expect just as much as you are going to do as a mother," he said. "And believe me, it will be no less than any good mother does, if not more."
"Why are you so certain when I am so afraid?"
"I just know."
I would have thought more about what kind of parent I was going to be for the next couple of days if it had not been for Dem's constant saying that he might have to leave soon to go to the war.
He had been constantly reminding me of the same thing so I would not get too sad when it was time for him to finally leave.
"It is dangerous for sure. But I believe nothing will happen to His Highness or Luc," Ruby said.
Luc apparently had to go as well. He left first, so Dem would not have to go first. Luc wished Dem would not have to go at all if possible. Luc was a kind friend. He wanted Dem to be able to be by my side for as long as possible.
But, in the end, Dem truly needed to go.
