Chapter 423: What's The Point Of Having Power?
(From Blue's Perspective)
"May your soul rest in peace," Cyan said.
"I… am not… d-dead," I said, as I struggled to sit up.
"Yeah, but you sure look dead. Well, good job on fulfilling the second mission properly," he said, feeding me a spoonful of medicine. It was the same medicine that I was fed to improve my stamina.
"I did not… need Azure's… p-pushing today," I said.
"Really?"
"Yeah… I… think I… have kind of… f-figured out… how t-to… use the… amount of power… I want. I-It was… ex…exhausting… for… sure since I was… weak… to begin… with, b-but… I knew…what I was doing."
"Mages need mental strength and the will actually to do something using their power. Normal werewolves and alphas need physical strength. Alphas have an advantage since they get another power of their choice. It is related to the thing they feel close to, or something they like. For example, your husband can control blood.
I also fancy blood, so I can understand him," he said while I wondered why someone even fancy blood. "Mages cannot shapeshift. If they want to fit in, they need to use their emotional strength. Masters of the magic tower are born with a lot more mana than normal mages. They develop self-control and emotional balance very quickly. That's why they train until they become worthy.
In your case, yeah, you are born with a large amount of black mana. But you don't exactly know how to use it. It's because you don't know how to control your emotions properly. I don't blame you and since you could do it this time, I believe it won't take time for you to do it properly all the time. Trust me, no one can stop the powerful ones."
"But, C-Cyan… I… could not… help… b-but wonder, why they… can't… stop you?" I asked. "You said… no one… can stop… the power… powerful ones. If… you are… t-truly on… my side, how come… they haven't… caught you yet?"
"You are right. I don't have a vast amount of black mana," he chuckled. "But why do you think Azure has kept me by his side?"
The answer was straightforward and clear. "Because you are… smart?"
"Of course. Somehow you are dumb despite being my twin. Anyway, have you heard that a mage can use their power in two ways?"
"Ah, r-right, two… ways. I… read… about it. M-Mages… usually try… t-to cover up… all… fields of magic… since i-it is… helpful… t-to them… and they believe… it is more helpful… in d-danger. And… it is. But… some mages… choose o-otherwise. They… don't… want to cover… up all… the fields, rather… they want t-to… use magic… in just o-one field, but… be really… powerful… in t-that."
"Correct. And I have used method two," he said.
"Don't tell me… You are… a potion… master?"
"No one calls anyone that, but yeah, I am that," he said.
"But… you can… t-teleport!" I pointed out, confused.
"Yes, with the use of a potion that I made," he said.
"W-Wait, so, you… made a… potion t-that lets you… teleport?"
"Short distance," he said. "Not everywhere. I can't teleport from one part of the world to another. It is only doable if my destination is nearby."
"I have… never heard… o-of… such a potion," I said. "I have… read t-that… there has been… a lot… of m-mages… who… tried t-to make… this kind o-of… potion. But… those practices… and experiments did… not see… success."
"Just because they were not successful doesn't mean no one ever will be," he said. "I tried again and again. I used the ingredients I felt would work, not the ones that were suggested in the books."
"It can… be dangerous… i-if… you use the… wrong… in… ingredient."
"Well, I studied a lot about them beforehand. And really, I don't make mistakes… much," he said.
"Azure… doesn't know it?"
"No."
"I want to… ask you… a-about… something, s-someone… actually."
"… King Demetrius's spy?" he asked and I gave a nod. "Azure killed and dismembered her. Then, I froze her body inside a huge ice cube."
"… She did… nothing… wrong."
"Yeah, she did not. She was unfortunately one of the pawns in a big game. Azure wanted to kill her and told me to freeze her, just to create a bit of terror and to keep the flesh fresh."
"Poor Berry… Her… family was… d-devastated…," I mumbled. The night when we found her dismembered body was still clear to me. It was terrifying. The guilt filled my head. It was somehow because of me that everything was happening. Someone even had to die.
At least, I could save Reece and Abel. They would surely be noticed by Dem or the maids since I had teleported them to the grand bedroom. Both of them needed medical attention. In the palace, they would get everything. I just wished Dem would not lose his mind and try to act rationally. He had the tendency to lose against his emotions when it came to his love and obsession.
"Blue, in this game, you can't win with those emotions of yours. Holding a person dear already is a weakness. But most people tend to hold someone dear to them. So, I will say one person, like King Demetrius is alright. But not many people. You can't win if you do that.
One weakness is more than enough. I don't understand how you are so emotional." Read new chapters at empire
"… I don't… understand… how you… are n-not…"
"Well, whatever, let's talk about the main thing. I will get you out, tomorrow. I will get both of us out tomorrow after the mission. Azure will move you to another room to train you about being his puppet. That room contains a lot of magical items and trust me, you don't want to go there. We have to hurry after you come back."
He told me about the plan thoroughly. It felt like a mistake, but I was ready to take the chance. It might be my last chance after all.
"Go and take a bath. You are dirty and smelly."
"The… smelly… part is too… much," I said.
Cyan had changed my clothes, so at least, I did not have to wear that soil-covered dress. It got dirty when I fell to the ground as exhaustion hit me. It was better if my brother changed my clothes than that perverted bastard.
Cyan helped me get down from the bed and to the bathroom. "I will be outside. Don't take too long. If you do, I will leave."
"O-Okay…"
How long had it been since I was away from Dem? It had been quite a long time. Every second felt awful and lonely. I was scared. How unfortunate I was that I had power but could not use it when I needed it the most...! What was the point of having that amount of power then?
If I managed to go back, there would be chaos. I knew exactly what was waiting for me there.
After all, the love that bloomed two years ago was not just love.
