Chapter 422: Was It Instinct?
(From Cyan's Perspective)
I opened the door with a spare key that I had been carrying with me. It all happened in a flash. My movements were too fast that even I could not fathom what I was doing until it was done.
I threw Lloid on the floor who was trying to undress Blue. I did not know if it was instinctive because she was my sister, but I was angrier than I had ever been.
"What the fuck were you doing? No, you don't have to answer me. I saw with my own eyes what you were trying to do! Get out! Fuck off! Right now!"
It was the first time I had yelled that loud. But it still felt to be not enough. There was nothing more to do. I could do something, but if I did, they would know my secret.
"Prince, please do not misunderstand. The princess is in pain. I was merely helping her."
"Get out, Lloid. Just get the fuck out!"
"Prince…"
"Get out!"
"Yes, Prince."
Lloid teleported. When he left, I turned to Blue. Proving her naming was successful, her face took exactly the same color that her name suggested.
"What were you doing? Why would you go down to the dungeon? Do you know what you have done? You could have ruined the plan!"
"… I… I am… sorry…," she mumbled. "Please… please… don't… hit me…"
"Why would I hit you?"
"… Please… don't… I won't… do it… again… Please…"
"I won't hit you, Blue. I was just…"
She was shaking with her arms around herself, bracing her. She was taking sneak peeks at me and was more afraid than the moment before. That time, I knew why she was afraid of her brother so much, why she hated that Draven.
He probably had made her life a living hell.
"Blue, look, I…"
I had never seen a person so psychologically weak. I had never seen someone so terrified of me that they were begging me not to hit them. It was my first time experiencing something like that, so I had no idea what to do. I just wanted to calm her down as it was making me very uncomfortable, but I did not know how.
"I… am… sorry…"
"I am not mad, Blue," I said.
It was making me scared how she was shaking. "Dem… Can I… please… go to… Dem?"
I heard a lot about King Demetrius. He was quite an emotionless man. I had never seen him in person, but since Azure's plan included him, I heard everything about him. He would be the last person I would expect to be able to console someone and give emotional support to a person. But it seemed I was wrong. He had a side of him that I did not know about and probably a lot of people did not know about.
Was it because he could give her the emotional support he needed that she loved him so dearly? After all, people always looked for the place where they found the comfort they needed.
"Listen, Blue, please, calm down. I am not going to hurt you. I am sorry for yelling at you. I won't do it again."
"Please… I am…"
"Blue, please! Calm down!" I yelled, holding her by the shoulders. "I am not Draven. I am Cyan. I might not be the best brother, but I won't hit you. I am not like that."
"… R-Really…?"
"Yes, that's right. I won't hit you. So, can you calm down now?"
She mumbled something. Her throat was already hurt and when she mumbled something, it was inaudible and foreign.
"I will help you go to your husband, okay? I will surely help you, but you need to listen to me."
"I… am tired…"
"Yes, me too, just of different things. You will get out of here and return to your family and I will get out of here and try to live under no one but my shadow," I said. "I will help you as long as you promise to never ever cry in front of me again and not be afraid of me ever."
'Because it scares me…'
"… Not… be a-afraid?"
"That's right. I am not Draven."
"R-Right…"
"Draven, your brother, what did he do to you? Had he used to beat you? Hit you?"
She looked terrified even just the mention of the name. It was funny and pitiful at the same time how a powerful dark mage like her was scared of a puny human who she could kill with just a snap. It was just another example of what emotional damage could do to people.
"He… He used to hit me… a lot… He used… t-to say… everything… is my… f-fault," she said, wiping the tears off her face. "I… I would cry… beg… b-but… he never… listened… It's been… t-two years… But I… I can't forget… I still… am… scared… I know… I-I am a… lot powerful… now… but you know what? You… need emotional… strength… m-more than anything… else… to fight back… And… I don't… have t-that…"
"It's… like… a nightmare… He is… a n-nightmare that… will never… stop h-haunting… me…," she added. That was when I noticed her lips were bleeding.
"Did he slap you?" I asked. "Lloid?"
She nodded. "T-Twice… I hit… him too…"
"Good job?"
"Hehe…," she smiled.
"What's funny?" I asked, confused.
"I don't… know," she laughed, trying to sit up. I gave her a helping hand.
'You are a broken case, Blue. I will let your husband handle your fixing. After all, no one can fix a broken person better than another broken person.'
It was not like I was completely intact with a right mind. I just did not need someone else to fix me. After all, I did not want to be fixed at all.
"Tomorrow, you will have to go on another mission. Do it properly. It will hurt, but still, make sure to do it. After that, I will make sure you recover quickly. It's after that, I will help you escape."
"… Will… you?"
"Yeah. It will be my chance to leave as well. I have to take it," I said. "Two more days. And you will be out of this place, out of his grasp, for the time being. After I get you out, our deal is finished.
I will go my way and you will go yours. If he catches you again, it's not my responsibility to save you."
"What… if he… finds you?"
"That's not something you should worry about," I said. "Because I am good at playing hide and seek."
The next day, just as planned, Blue went on the mission. Her condition was not good, but she could use her power. Last night, she asked me where I found that medicine that improved her stamina. I did not answer. It was a secret, for now.
Azure and Lloid went with Blue. I told Azure that Lloid was trying to hurt Blue. But to Azure, it did not matter as long as she was able to use her power. It did not matter to him if his own daughter was harassed by a man, it did not matter if she was half dead; he only needed her power, not her as a whole person.
When they came back, just as I expected, Blue was not conscious. She had to push herself too hard to destroy the second door.
"The doctor will check her," Azure said. "That said, what are you doing in her room?" Discover exclusive tales on empire
"We are bonding," I replied.
"Bonding? You never were interested in things like 'bonding'."
"I am now. I want to get to know my sister better. I don't think it's a problem," I said.
"Haa, whatever. It will be good anyway if you two get along," he said. "Mind changing her clothes? The doctor will be here soon."
Blue never complained that I changed her clothes when she was unconscious. She was glad that it was not Lloid. Well, I was in her room so Lloid could not do anything. If I was not here, it would be him who would change her clothes. Someone like him could never be trusted, especially around a woman.
'One more mission. My plan needs to work.'
I was confident about my plan. I would surely get a way out. But the problem was what would happen afterward. Azure would not be able to find me, but Blue was a Queen. She would be a Queen when she would return. There was no place for her to hide.
I did not particularly care about her well-being. But one line of a book confused me.
One embraces the mother and the other follows.
