The wanderer - run

Chapter 8: Chapter 7

I was enjoying lunch at the farm to table restaurant when a lovely lady in a party outfit sat next to me. She said very politely that I am now a target. So I had better come up with an excuse to go back to the mountains. There will be several attempts of my life and if that doesn't help then someone might expose me as a Nin. I gave her the look of death, "Listen you! The only person who can expose me is you. The others are welcome to try and kill me. I can kill them before they take their first steps.i don't need to even move my fingers to do so. I may have said no to the war but I never said anything about not using my abilities as self defense." She raised an eyebrow, "Our intelligence says that there will be an incident and you will be framed for it." I gave her a look of contempt. I asked for a week to settle my affairs so I can go to the mountains. She gave me a nod and walked away. She turned around and asked me why a week. I said that the apartment takes a week's notice before I leave. The bank account has to be closed and I have to give a plausible reason to quit. She gave me a subtle nod, "Ok. Seven days and then your problems will come down upon you in the form of an avalanche my dear." I happily bowed and pretended to heed her warning. I quit my job and got to the bank. I closed the account and converted them to precious stones again. I happily paid the last of my rent as I told the land lady that I am leaving. I pulled out my go bag and my emergency funds. I made it to the horticultural society. I donated the plants in my apartment. Since it was a rare medicinal the curator happily accepted. Then I quickly walked towards my ship. I hopped on board and got permission to leave this planet. The excuse I gave was a sick relative on their death bed so immediately I was given permission to leave. I waved goodbye to this planet as I knew that coming back is going to have repercussions.

I flipped a few switches to activate the star bridge and found myself in Colonia in the Nuremberg system. This was a heavily militarized zone. I was questioned on my intention before I was allowed to land. I asked to step out of the ship and it was scanned for bombs before they asked the purpose of my visit. I said that I am a medic on leave from Arcana in the Minon regions. I am supposed to join a medical floatilla but I overslept. I rented this ship to reach my destination but I am running out of fuel. I am simply here to refuel and get going. There are over a billion floatilla hovering the galaxy. It is near impossible to get any sort of information about volunteers. I had a Parthean service badge as a fully trained combat medic so they waved me off. They let me refuel and gave me directions to a motel. This way I can refresh myself before heading to work. There were huge buildings that were designed to make everyone feel inferior. Like these people were the supreme leaders while everyone else was less. Most of the people were dressed in military garb either black or gray. The citizens wore white and red to show their support to these supposed patriotic heroes. The state radio was blaring the glory that these people are enjoying and how soon they will expand to other parts of the galaxy. I managed to get cleaned and fed. I was escorted back to my ship and the man was kind enough to prove that he had no alterations. He simply refueled as requested. I paid the man in twenty valuta and five dusks. He smiled as I stepped in and fired the engine.

An official walked in and saluted his superior in a manner that begs for his attention. The man requested that I stay here and train the medics. Since the last assault left the medical team redundant. I ignored him as a rule as I took off since I had permission to leave. I confirmed with the watchtower and he said I can go. I made it past the moon when the request for my return was called. I ignored him but what was hard to ignore was the war ship shaped like a crescent orbiting the moon. I quickly flipped switches and hoped that the star bridge would activate. They send several waning shots. I kept ignoring it as I prayed that the star bridge would take me elsewhere. Five shots later the portal opened and I pressed the button on top of the steering and my tiny ship zipped in at the speed of light. The message distorted as it lost the signal. I felt a sense of peace till I reached my destination. I was back in Anhedonia. I quietly landed on one of the river banks. I wondered why I landed here of all places? The answer arrived in the form of a Colonial warship. I have heard of this tech. I was during the refugee resettlement on Agri Gore. This tech is the Senate's new weapon to track marauders and gangsters called dust retrace. This apparently traced the dust signature of my ship as I entered the star bridge and used it to find their way here. But since the signal died due to radiation and other sorts of electromagnetic interference. So luckily they have no way of tracing me. All I had to do was wait a few minutes. I know this is a solar flare season. The best part is even the weakest star will be able to disable the warship. Sure enough a green and yellow light was seen striking the ship.

I waited another ten minutes for it to dissipate. Then I happily jumped on my ship and flew out of nightmare land. I hopped the star bridge to Parthean lands on the Polis major regions. As I landed I saw Mangalers firing rapid rounds at the locals. They seemed adamant about mas murder. So I used fire manipulation and melted their weapons. Then I used earth manipulation to sink them into the earth. I ran towards the injured and used mud to heal them. Then I placed my hand over my head and stayed on my knees to prove that I am not Draconian they have labeled me. The Parthen saw my service badge and deduced my actions to prove that I am harmless. I was escorted to the medical facility where I met Kuruk again. I explained my predicament and he examined me at length. He said that he will ask around for the location of Arman. He felt that I should go there since the change is permanent. There is no reversing this serum. Arcanons live for two hundred years. Parthen has lived for eighty years. The people of Comorebi live for ninety to a hundred and thirty years. The Colonials live for seventy years. In my case I may live forever or I may live for more than a thousand. If I am out and about this might spark dubious intentions. Not only would I be in danger but others too. I understood this problem so he consented to help me reverse my condition. He tried to kill me several times but unfortunately I regenerated or survived.

A month later the brigadier general of the Arcanon royal army came to escort the batch of medics to the war zone. I don't understand why they are trying to continue the war. I heard of the ceasefire but clearly that was a load of baleen manure. He was cursing the fact that the war was halted but was given assurance with good faith that the war will resume in a matter of days. I quickly hid as everyone knew that I was going to face a court marshal for running away from a warzone. Since the residents were peace loving they sent their people as healers. I was asked nicely to leave. Kuruk said that I will leave when he tracks Arman. The head of the planet Aruk was kind enough to contact the ship and have it stop by the Parthean space path. The ship was pointy on both ends and but was rounder and grew wider towards the middle. The residents of Arman were pleased to escape an event horizon. I was introduced as a medic. I offered my services in exchange for citizenship. It was a fair exchange. I was allowed on board and was taken through what appears to be a bustling metropolis. Then in a submersible we navigated a water world filled with rare creatures who would have died if they had found a place that they couldn't adjust to. I was taken through greenery. Then walked over ledges to see robots hovering over head repairing a wall that was one single computer with gold spheres all over. The inside had a casino and people were being entertained by aliens. Then I was on an elevator going up and out to see the biggest library ever. Then walking down a few dozen paces to hop another elevator to go sideways. The door opened from behind me. I was escorted through a dimly lit room but I was able to see a little bit. The door opened to show an escalator taking me down to a series of apartments and capsule bunkers. I walked till I reached the end and walked in to see people in military garb.

I happily declared that I am a conscientious objector. The man gave me a tired expression, "I am pleased to hear that. I am told that you are going to be a part of this community. What are you bringing into this ship?" I smiled, "I offer my services as a medic. The Parthen will attest that I am a certified medic." Aruk attested to my services citing my service as a combat medic has helped in many ways. He said that I have been awarded the Gray crest badge. The highest honor in the Parthean culture. So the man in the military garb asked me if I wanted to be a soldier and I reminded him that I am an enemy of violence so I prefer being a civilian medic. The man asked me if I had lost faith in the army's ability to serve and protect. I smiled, "I am not a military property. I have the choice of free will so I chose to be a civilian." The governor asked me if I prefer being a reservist so if need be I would lend my services. I said that I would rather be a full civilian. The man understood that the deception of war and the displacement of innocents had left me scarred. So he accepted my excuse and gave me full civilian status with no chance of military recruitment. The man in the military uniform looked like some had taken away his favorite toy. Regardless I was given an apartment all for myself. I was asked to design anyway I see fit. Here goes nothing.
