The Villainess VTuber Tears People Apart

Chapter 48 - The Stalker and the Thief

Anna was watching Sora’s stream.

‘Lately, teacher… no, that’s not right. I decided not to call her teacher anymore.’

Anna shook her head.

“I haven’t talked to Laura recently…”

It felt a little awkward to say a name she wasn’t used to calling out loud.

Since Laura’s debut, Anna had been watching all of Laura’s streams without missing a single one.

And after every stream, she’d send a message on Discord: ‘Today’s stream was fun too! Especially the part where you sliced the Paladin’s neck—it was epic!’ But then, Laura replied, ‘Stop sending long reviews every time. It’s a little unsettling,’ so she had been holding back lately.

Anyway, it meant she was a fan of Laura.

Wasn’t she the one who recognized Laura’s true potential even before her debut as a VTuber?

Before Rion even recommended Laura to become a VTuber, Anna had already made her appear on stream.

“I was the first to claim her…!”

Of course, the fact that Anna’s favorite was still Louis hadn’t changed, but Louis didn’t stream 24/7.

So, during her free time, she watched Laura’s streams.

…When she used to stream for 20 hours a day during her debut, Anna thought she would die trying to keep up, but thankfully, the streams had gotten shorter lately.

Thank goodness.

It must’ve been because Rion-senior pushed her, right? Rion-senior saved my life.

‘But somehow, I feel like we’re drifting apart.’

Anna worried about whether Laura, with her prickly personality, would get along with the 6th Gen members. But surprisingly, she was getting along well! Couldn’t she be a little less friendly though…?

From what she heard, Sora and Laura had exchanged gifts. Sunglasses? A horror game? I’ve never received anything like that…!

It’s natural for VTubers to be friendly with their peers, but as someone restricted from collaborating with them, it felt a bit lonely.

‘When will this collab ban be lifted, anyway…’

Sighing, Anna logged into Minecraft.

She didn’t expect Laura to make a surprise appearance on Sora’s stream.

Anna had been keeping up with all of Laura’s streams, but it was hard to catch an unexpected appearance on someone else’s channel.

“Does this mean I need to start monitoring all of the 6th Gen streams now?”

So, she missed the beginning, but now Laura was planning to fight the Wither.

‘This… is a golden opportunity.’

Anna thought for a moment.

If Laura was going to fight the Wither, she would have to leave the 6th Gen base, right? The Wither destroys everything around it.

Should I get ahead of her first?

Then I could pretend to run into her by chance.

‘I want to, but Laura didn’t start her stream…!’

There was no way for Anna to know where Laura was going to go.

No choice.

Might as well quietly drink an invisibility potion.

Gulp, gulp.

Anna drank the invisibility potion and became invisible, adding a few more functional potions for good measure.

“All set. Now, I just need to catch the Wither.”

“Can I come with you? Not that I’d be much help.”

“If you’re not careful, you might draw aggro. And without proper gear, the Wither will one-shot you.”

“Oh, I see. Then I won’t go. Now that I think about it, I have some building to do.”

Right in front of her, Laura and Sora were having that conversation.

As Laura started moving, Anna quietly followed her.

This was how Anna spent her days lately.

‘There’s no harm in this… right?’

Every time Laura logged into Minecraft, Anna would observe her in invisibility mode.

It couldn’t be called stalking. It wasn’t like she was stalking in real life, just in the game. Besides, Anna had experienced similar things from senior members of previous generations in the game.

It was fun secretly watching her juniors play.

But more than that, Anna wanted to know more about Laura.

Laura was like a flower on a cliff—no matter how much you reached out, it felt like you could never touch her.

That was what made her so alluring, a person who made you want to risk your life just to get close to her.

It was like the urge to leave a handprint on a perfectly clean glass window.

Beyond her always confident and unshakable demeanor, Anna wanted to see Laura’s different sides.

Her surprised expression, for instance.

Or her flustered face.

If she could see that, it would truly make her day as a fan.

With her own hands.

…With my own hands?

‘…I’m thinking weird thoughts again.’

I’ve been like this more often lately.

Ever since ‘that day,’ even Louis had stopped doing participation streams.

Anyway, watching Laura solo the Wither in real-time would be an absolute treat.

Thinking that, invisible Anna watched Laura’s play from a distance.

‘Wow, her positioning is insane…’

Laura was easily dodging the Wither’s projectile attacks.

And she never forgot to fire her arrows. Needless to say, every shot was a perfect hit.

In Anna’s opinion, Minecraft was an inconvenient game.

Just think of any typical action game. You’d have parrying, rolling, sidestepping, or dashing—there are usually all sorts of ways to respond to attacks.

But in Minecraft, there were only two ways to respond: ‘dash forward’ or ‘block with a shield.’

The Wither’s attacks were explosive, so the shield wasn’t very useful. That left only the forward dash as a viable option.

Yes, a forward dash.

In Minecraft, you can’t dash backward or to the sides. You can only dash in the direction of the ‘W’ key, meaning you also have to move the mouse (your camera view) to avoid attacks.

In short, it was a ridiculously inconvenient game with no way to avoid attacks while keeping your eyes on the enemy.

But somehow, Laura had a knack for spatial awareness. After dodging an attack, she immediately raised her bow and aimed at the Wither with precision.

Steadily whittling down its health.

When the Wither charged in for a melee attack, Laura dodged and then pummeled it.

‘I’d heard she was good at PC games, but…’

Even if I made her play one of those bucket games, wouldn’t she do well? Anna thought absently.

As she watched in a daze, an explosion sent Laura flying back.

The Wither summoned minions, activated its shield, and flew up into the sky.

And then… it started chasing after her.

“…Huh?”

For a moment, Anna couldn’t understand what was happening.

Did it notice me?

‘Oh no…! Did my invisibility potion wear off…!?’

Anna had been so focused on watching Laura’s play that she forgot to drink a new potion.

The Wither was now flying toward her with relentless fury.

And Anna was easily scared.

Without looking back, she started running.

“Hiiiiiiiii?!”

Anna ran.

Bang!

Boom!

Boom-boom-boom!!

The Wither kept spewing fire everywhere.

If I drink another invisibility potion, will it leave me alone…?

I don’t know…! I’ve barely fought the Wither in Minecraft!!

Rather than gamble on it, Anna decided to just keep running.

But there was no way she could outrun the much faster Wither.

-KABOOM!!

“Kyah?!”

Anna’s avatar was knocked back by the Wither’s charge attack.

【Shiroki_Anna has been slain by the Wither.】

“It’s the Void Rod, right?”

Sora, who stayed behind at the 6th Gen base while Laura went on her adventure to fight the Wither, was recalling the conversation she had with Laura earlier.

-“If you’re going to make a chandelier, the Void Rod would be perfect, but it’s something you can only get in the late game.”

‘Hmm… She said she wanted a Void Rod, right…?’

Laura never explicitly said she wanted it, but to Sora, that didn’t really matter.

Sora typed into her phone.

When she searched for ‘Void Rod,’ it did seem like it would go well with a chandelier.

“How do I get this?”

Sora asked the air.

And then,

-You have to go to the Void

-After you kill the dragon, the Void opens up

-You can’t get it now

“I see.”

After summarizing the viewers’ comments, it seemed that you had to defeat the Ender Dragon, the final boss of Minecraft, to unlock a new map. It was an item that could only be obtained there.

Of course, as someone who had just started playing Minecraft, that was a far-off dream for Sora.

“But is the Void Rod a rare item? Like a diamond?”

-No, not really

-It’s trash loot

-Once you open the Void, you can get as many as you want

-It’ll go straight into storage

“Then have the seniors been to the Void?”

-Rinco went to the Void yesterday lol

-You guys are still in the Stone Age

-The seniors have already cleared all the Minecraft content

So, if she went to the city where the seniors lived, she could probably find a Void Rod in one of their storage chests.

Since it was trash loot, they probably wouldn’t think she was stealing, right?

It didn’t seem like a problem to take a few, did it?

‘But I feel a bit nervous going alone.’

Sora had mostly focused on building so far.

Of course, there was that one time she went on an adventure to gather items. That was when she fell into lava and lost all her diamonds, a painful lesson learned.

…And the monsters in Minecraft, like zombies and skeletons, were scary. Why do they have to be so terrifying?

Isn’t a sandbox game supposed to have cuter monsters?

That’s why Sora didn’t like to leave the base too often.

‘Is Inagika… still not awake?’

She checked the Discord room, but Inagika was still offline.

Inagika’s sleep schedule was already a wreck. That was common among VTubers.

Nothing she could do.

Sighing, Sora went to the fishing area.

“Chel.”

She called out.

Chel had been logged into Minecraft since the morning.

But she never spoke. …Why is she always so silent?

“Yes.”

At least she responded when called.

Sora didn’t know why Chel used formal speech with her peers.

‘…It felt too distant.’

“I’m going to the seniors’ city. Can you come with me?”

“Okay.”

Chel put down her fishing rod.

One thing Sora had learned about Chel was that she was surprisingly obedient, despite how she seemed.

If you gave her an order or asked for a favor, she would quietly comply.

‘…She’s really hard to figure out.’

She was still an awkward colleague, but better to have her around than not.

“Let’s head out right away.”

“Yes.”

With that, Sora resolved to sneak into the seniors’ city with Chel.

This had happened just 20 minutes before she encountered the Wither.
