The Villain Only Wants To Live a Buddhist Life

Chapter 30

Chapter 30: The Small Story of Dark Demon’s Index Explosion

This was clearly the most pressing issue on Robert’s mind.

If the credits from this class didn’t count, he and Wit’s debt would be completely ruined.

“Then why does this particular class have to be the problem!”

Robert roared inwardly, his emotions somewhat agitated.

But Dark was making his first substitute teaching, how could he know if the credits counted or not?

He thought for a moment, then decided to give it a try: “Very well, Broheim’s question is quite constructive. It seems everyone is concerned about this issue. Why don’t we do an experiment?”

Robert: “What kind of experiment?”

Dark suddenly raised his voice: “Broheim, deduct five points!”

Robert’s expression changed instantly!

He quickly picked up the selection card to check; sure enough, five points were deducted!

Dark asked: “Well, is there a deduction?”

Robert nodded gloomily: “Yes.”

Dark smiled slightly: “Broheim, add five points.”

Although he didn’t understand the principle behind this, he clearly had the power of the professors in this class, able to manage the students’ credits.

He had earned some legitimacy as a substitute teacher.

As expected, once the students realized that their fellow student could indeed deduct points from them, those who were dissatisfied with him became much more restrained.

Dark said: “Since there are no more issues, let’s start the lesson properly. Please take out your exercise books and turn to page XX. By the way, I assume no one hasn’t done their homework, right?”

Facing his skepticism, the students of the Mana Academy showed slight disdain, while some from the Knight Academy even spread out their exercise books to show him.

Speaking of it, the last arithmetic class was last Thursday, already five days ago.

Any normal student wouldn’t possibly have failed to do their homework, right?

Impossible, right?

Following Professor Lily’s usual practice, she would collect the exercise books before the end of the class, grade them, and distribute them in the next class, while also assigning new homework.

But Dark wanted to stretch the time, so he planned to explain the homework directly today.

After all, he often graded the first-year students’ homework himself.

Explaining it today would save him the trouble of grading later!

But just as he was about to open the exercise book, he suddenly looked up and noticed Robert’s expression seemed off!

Robert was far from just looking odd; he almost wanted to cry!

Because he had truly forgotten to do his homework!

Of course, his companion Wit hadn’t written anything either!

Only Wit controlled his emotions better than Robert, so it wasn’t obvious.

The arithmetic homework was assigned last Thursday because it was close to the weekend, so many students planned to do it over the weekend.

But last weekend was the first opening day of Traveler’s Street!

Wit and Robert had spent a fortune on the latest Mana Chess set, spending the entire weekend playing it.

Engrossed in the game, they had forgotten about their homework.

And by Monday, the previous night, they had been trying to borrow credits, leaving no time for homework!

“Hey.”

Robert suddenly felt a pain in his thigh and instinctively turned to look at Wit.

Wit withdrew his hand and signaled urgently: “Pretend! Pretend!”

But there was no way to pretend anymore…

Dark originally didn’t want to intervene—he really didn’t want to—but Robert’s behavior was too obvious, so even the students across the aisle in the Noble Academy noticed.

One student even looked at him with ill intent and slowly raised his hand!

If he still didn’t intervene now, it would be truly unreasonable.

Dark reluctantly said: “Powell, what do you want to say?”

Powell slowly stood up and pointed at Robert proudly: “Dear Demon, I saw a mouse hiding the exercise book in his pants.”

Dark turned his gaze toward Robert and glanced at Wit beside him, then decisively said: “Goddard, check Broheim’s homework.”

Wit lowered his head helplessly and reached for Robert’s exercise book.

He had no choice!

Because he hadn’t done his homework either!

At this point, he could only sacrifice himself to save the situation!

After pretending to check it, Wit helplessly said: “Sorry, it seems he really forgot to do his homework.”

Dark’s expression darkened: “Good, Broheim, do you remember how many points you lose for not doing homework?”

Robert clenched his teeth hard.

Dark said expressionlessly: “Broheim, deduct ten points!”

Wit tightly gripped the edge of the exercise book.

Suddenly, he felt an extremely ominous premonition!

Dark didn’t delve further into it but instead copied the problems onto the blackboard and explained them one by one.

He occasionally asked questions and used stories to explain some difficult concepts, making them easy to understand—far superior to Professor Lily’s straightforward lecturing!

Gradually, the students discovered that those previously difficult problems seemed to become simpler!

Robert on the other hand had a face like death.

Wit did his best to pretend he was listening, never hating himself more for not doing his homework.

They were both first-year students.

They were both sons of the Kingdom’s dual swords.

Now, one was lecturing on stage while the other was afraid of being found out for not having done the homework!

His grip on the pen handle was unprecedentedly tight.

The explanation of the problems went much smoother than Dark had anticipated, especially in terms of buying time.

Ten minutes of questioning, thirty minutes of solving problems, and suddenly forty minutes had passed.

Dark glanced at the clock and realized it was time to teach something useful.

So he followed his initial plan and began telling the story of “index explosion.”

Of course, he couldn’t really explain index theory, as it was far beyond the scope.

The idea came from the debt dispute between Emma, Wit, and Robert that he had accidentally overheard yesterday.

Though Dark didn’t hear the specifics, it didn’t stop him from recalling a story about a millionaire going bankrupt.

Since he was standing here today, he should leave something behind.

So he continued: “The famous Magus Leonardo da Vinci once said, ‘Arithmetic is the foundation of all magic!’ Some of you may think that arithmetic has little impact on mana duels and thus don’t pay attention to it, even neglecting your homework. This is very foolish!”

“If you can’t even handle basic arithmetic, let alone participate in mana duels, you might fall prey to others in everyday life.”

“Once upon a time, there was a millionaire named Jamie who went bankrupt due to his lack of arithmetic skills!”

Then, Dark proceeded to tell the story in detail.

One day, millionaire Jamie encountered a strange matter.

A man named Webb said to him: “I want to make a deal with you. For a whole month, I’ll give you 100 thousand sacred coins every day, but on the first day, you only need to give me one cent, and each subsequent day you will give me double the amount from the previous day.”

Jamie only saw the gap between one cent and 100 thousand sacred coins and exclaimed: “Really?! Are you serious?”

The contract took effect, and Jamie was overjoyed.

On the first day, Jamie paid one cent and received 100 thousand sacred coins.

On the second day, Jamie paid two cents and received 100 thousand sacred coins.

By the tenth day, Jamie had earned a million sacred coins and only paid a total of 5.12 sacred coins.

By the twentieth day, Jamie had earned two million sacred coins, while Webb had received only five thousand sacred coins.

Jamie thought to himself: “If the contract could last for two or three months, it would be even better!”

But from the twenty-first day onward, things changed!

On the twenty-first day, Jamie paid more than ten thousand sacred coins and received 100 thousand sacred coins.

By the twenty-eighth day, Jamie paid over 1.34 million sacred coins and received 100 thousand sacred coins.

In the end, Jamie earned 3.1 million sacred coins in a month (31 days) while paying Webb over 21 million sacred coins!

Jamie went bankrupt!

“Emma!”

Robert’s roar echoed throughout the classroom.
