The Tycoon Inheritance

Silence.

The entire hallway was in still motion. Everyone was frozen in actions they were doing and there was no sound to be heard.

"Oh, my great aunt Petunia! This is amazing!" Su Lian exclaimed. She moved gracefully like a butterfly, fluttering around the time-frozen people and scrutinizing everything about them; from the warmth of their skin, how heavy they were, and if their limbs or clothing could be moved.

She was so immersed in her fantasy wish being true that she forgot about the person who actually did this 'magic trick.' Her thought process was already on the path of wondering how 'magic' works on Earth.

Chen Kai laughed at her wide shining eyes from seeing this phenomenon. He watched on dotingly as she comprehended everything around her. There was no sign of caution or timidity only genuine curiosity. Her adaptability was good; revealing his cultivation to her wasn't a mistake.

There won't be a penalty for revealing this 'mysterious power' because this star was once a land of cultivators that was a minor world in a mystic realm. Technology and the destruction of high spiritual areas declined the vitality of this star, resulting in exile by the realm.

If only a clan survived long enough to introduce the combination of magic and technology then they would have exceeded their current state.

The excitement vanished from Su Lian's face as she stood before Tang Yue's frozen state. The disgust and anger from what she read returned. She wasn't a simple flower in a meadow, she's aware of how cruel the human mind can be. What she couldn't understand was this man's hate for Chen Kai.

The plan of drugging him and pushing him into the fate of a gigolo for a cougar then using her to break Chen Kai's psyche was beyond petty hate. What is it? Did Kai kill his imaginary friend? What the heck is wrong with this guy? Not to mention roping in the help of the Chu siblings.

Since they wished to harm both of them, there was no need to be polite.

"What are you going to do to them?" Crossing her arms across her chest, she sneered disdainfully at the couple. Chu Jai Li's face was contorted in pain giving an ugly visual and Tang Yue had a disgusting smirk on his face. Tsk, What a pair!

Her question wasn't a hard one for Chen Kai. Their fates were already sealed when they placed Su Lian into their plans, Chu Jai Li's public curse against Su Lian was the lock to that seal.

"I initially planned to make this reunion my last appearance and ignore the lot with their stupidity but they fucked up. I think it's best for them to reap what they have sown."

She understood half of his statement and waited for him to reveal the meaning of the next half.

Seeing her curiosity, he laughed softly and placed a soft doting kiss on her cheek. He truly loved this woman and was always open with her. Now that she's aware of one of his secrets, he is more at ease with her as his future wife.

"Let me put things in place."

Waving his hand from left to right in front of him, three paper-man talismans appeared and hovered mid-air. Su Lian stayed silent and watched Chen Kai's actions.

Talismans were part of their culture so this wasn't surprising to her.

What surprised her were the golden characters appearing in the air, they were made visible in writing form. She noticed Chen Kai was speaking but there was no sound to be heard. The movements of his lips were so fast that she couldn't distinguish any words.

His black diamond eyes now held golden halos around the iris as he spoke. He waved his hands once more and the golden characters separated and embedded themselves into the talismans.

The paper-man talismans multiplied and then dispersed.

They flew to different parts of the hotel. She was able to see five attaching themselves to their targets. Three pasted themselves on the foreheads of Chu Han, Chu Jia Li, and Tang Yue. The other two went to the security camera in the hallways.

"Was that spells? What are those talismans for? Is this part of your counterattack? I wanna see~"

His bubbly little wife has become an inquisitive toddler.

"Spoiled. We can watch back in the room," he chided softly.

"I'm your woman. It's your job to spoil me," she retorted cutely. He reached for her hand and led her out of the frozen masses.

"It's my honor to do so, my lady."

His low magnetic voice tickled her ears as he spoke, they reddened by the second when he called her, 'my lady.'

"You have learned honeyed words, hmph!"Raising her head haughtily, she couldn't hide the pleased expression on her face.

He smiled at her cute actions and pulled her towards the half-closed elevator that was going up with three guests.

Snap!

With a snap of his fingers, the entire hotel resumed its activity.

The sharp scream from Chu Jia Li startled the ones near her. Their frightened expressions were mixed with confusion and then disbelief as the ear-splitting scream died down abruptly like a broken siren.

"… Uh. What? It doesn't pain anymore." Sitting up from Tang Yue's arms, Chu Jia Li frowned in confusion. She felt no signs of the previous pain and sensed something amiss.

Tang Yue cried out in pain for a second, rubbing his cheek. The stinging pain was strange and he became irritable by Chu Jia Li's scream. Looking at her confused and disheveled image made him more irritable.

Chu Han stumbled towards them with worry coated on his handsome features. He subconsciously glanced at the empty spot beside Tang Yue.

'There should have been someone there or am I seeing things?' he thought inwardly for a second before chasing it away.

"Xiao Li. Are you okay? Brother Tang said you were sick," Chu Han said, ignoring the crowd around the couple.

"My chest…. It was so painful. It felt like hot needles piercing it… but now…. So strange."

Hearing her words, a few concerned people suggested that she take a trip to the hospital to make sure there was no hidden danger.

Chu Han welcomed their concern and Tang Yue acted like a devoted boyfriend and helped her up.

"There should be Medical Services arriving. You can rest in the lounge. We will lead them to you." The hotel security guard stepped forward quickly, wanting to disperse this crowd quickly. This lot was unruly and was creating a poor image for the hotel.

"Thank you, sir." Mu Zui stepped forward to help after seeing the look of annoyance on the guard's face. With the prestige of Class Monitor, she convinced everyone to go back to the banquet hall.

Watching them go back, she realized someone was missing.

She pulled Tang Yue aside and asked him discreetly about that person.

Tang Yue, himself was hurting his brain thinking of where Chen Kai can disappear to within a blink of an eye.

"How the fuck is he so unpredictable? The Chen Kai we knew wasn't so poisonous and arrogant. Where can he go? Tch! Everything is ruined." Despite his anger, he kept a smiling face as he walked beside Mu Zui.

"There can be another time." Mu Zui wasn't really bothered by what Tang Yue wanted to do. She did her part and that's all that matters. Saying a few words to him was enough. Even though she wanted to get back at that poor gigolo for embarrassing her in senior year, she wasn't settled on wasting so much energy on him.

Tang Yue scoffed and parted ways with her. He went to join the Chu siblings wanting to know what was going on. When he entered the lounge, the Medical Services attendants just arrived and were examining Chu Jia Li. Chu Han saw him enter and quickly approached him.

"Where is he? He was right in front of you. If Chen Kai isn't in position, both of us will lose out," Chu Han spoke quickly under his breath only for Tang Yue to hear.

At the mention of that name, both men felt slightly dizzy for a second and felt compelled to follow their plan without worry.

"It's fine. We'll meet up as planned," Tang Yue commented uncertainly.

"Yes." Chu Han agreed in the same manner and then brushed off the strange scenario.

Seeing that his little sister was fine, he confirmed with her that the plan would not change. The reply from her was dismissive but that vengeful sneer cannot be dismissed.

"Question. That guy. Tang Yue. Did you kill his dog or something? Why does he hate you so much?" Su Lian was beside Chen Kai watching the surveillance of four people on gold-lighted screens. She was informed that it was spiritual power that created them and they were looking through the eyes of the talismans.

"Heck if I know. I've always seen him as a clown looking for a favorable audience every day."

"Maybe its something at home that pertains to you," Su Lian guessed.

"Maybe. I don't care. It's his problem of being so petty if a mention of my name angers him so much." Chen Kai answered her carelessly and boldly lay his head on her lap.

Su Lian was all for the drama. Beside the bed was a food cart with chef's personally made snacks and chilled drinks, prepared for the live-action drama.

"Gah! Too bad this doesn't have that 'visual insight' most dramas have," she complained. Her eyes shifted from Tang Yue being a douche to the upcoming engagement of Chu Han.

"Is that the famous Madam Huo?"

The paper-man talisman was focused on a mature beauty being served by her good-looking companion. A few important-looking people were approaching her table to toast in her honor. Just by the look on her face, one can see how delighted she was to gain such honor.

"A frog at the bottom of a well. What are her businesses?"

"A few lucrative investments and her past husband's random businesses. She's a hands-off shopkeeper. I looked into them and it will be a miracle if four of them survive next year." Chen Kai watched the screen that had Madam Huo as the main character. Though her dress wasn't wildly eye-catching, the quality was top notch and the jewelry was of the same. It was a huge difference from the other guests.

One can't judge her finances by a look but he investigated it. She was sucking her husband's businesses dry and keeping herself afloat with her dividends. There were pros and cons to her move but Chen Kai didn't care. It wasn't of importance.

"Oh look. The great Chu Yang and his wife Ji Xin Yi!"

"Pfft! Your sarcasm is showing."

In the grand banquet hall, Chu Yang, Chen Kai's 'father' and his wife Ji Xin Yi approached Madam Huo and offered her a few flattering words, licking her face shamelessly. One would think the gathering was hosted by the Madam and not their family.

"Master Chu. I have heard of your rags-to-riches story. It's very commendable in this economy. It is also well received seeing how you give your best to your family. Thank you for the invitation to your son's birthday event."

Chu Yang felt flattered being addressed as 'Master Chu'. It took three-quarter of his soul to get his company running and to its current stage. Being recognized is one step closer in being the circle of the elite.

"You praise me too highly, Madam Huo. This business was a late start but meaningful. My children will be the ones handling it better in the future." Chu Yang didn't hesitate to put his children in a good light. If the two are involved in any business in the future, it will be good to be in Madam Huo's good graces.

"Thank you for your words, Madam Huo. Coming from a successful woman like you, it will come as a blessing," Ji Xin Yi added.

Madam Huo smiled graciously at the two then gave Ji Xin Yi a quick look. "I heard you have two sons who are quite promising and a daughter as beautiful as a rose. When will I be able to meet your other two treasures."

"It turns out little Kai's school reunion is tonight and Xiao Li accompanied him after missing him so much. We were lucky to have him back home." Ji Xin Yi smoothly painted a loving sibling story which amused Madam Huo.

'This woman is pretty good. Anyone may think that she's a loving mother instead of a two-tongued step mother who sold her son for a few millions,' Madam Huo mused silently. Keeping a pleasant smile on her face, she offered her understanding and uttered a few words to them. The double meaning was well received by Ji Xin Yi.

Bidding their goodbyes, Chu Yang left his wife's side to tend to a few guests while his wife made sure the night runs smoothly.

Quietly she arranged for the cutting of the birthday cake session to begin. Approaching her son, she gave him a motherly smile and teased him before his girlfriend causing both of them to blush.

The MC of the night brought everyone's attention to the stage and introduced a popular Internet Celebrity to sing Happy Birthday to liven up the atmosphere.

Most young people recognized the singer and didn't waste time in recording the little session.

The cake was rolled out.

The elaborate design was eye-catching and realistic. The depiction was of Huashan Mountain and a lifelike model of Chu Han in an Xianxia costume. He was a big fan of this genre and it was known throughout his circle of friends. He couldn't hide his appreciation.

Giving into his impulse, he reached out to touch the figurine of himself and stupidly grin at his friends who came closer to see it.

"Leave something for the rest of us. Do you have to entice the ladies in this costume?"

"Brother Han, this is a foul. It's hard that you're the best out of us why did you have to show this side of you?"

Taking his friend's teasing, he couldn't hold back in his unrestrained behavior and retorted in his own way according to their friendship.

The atmosphere was cheerful and full of well wishes for the birthday boy.

His parents held their heads high as they heard the pleasing comments about their only son. At that time, Chu Jia Li came floating in; walking gracefully through the crowd and replying bashfully to those who call out to her. She made her way to the center and joyously called out to her brother and her sister-in-law. This brought out more praise. The Chu couple was floating on air.

Chu Han brought his girlfriend closer for the cutting of the cake. Behind them were comments about how realistic the jade porcelain bottles were and the delicate brocade box lodged under the figurine's arm.

He ignored them and held her hand to cut the cake. "This birthday I wish to share it with you and many others in the future," he said aloud.

The girl smiled warmly at him and didn't answer. She was deciphering his words, and thinking how he made a simple birthday so elaborate. The guests mostly consisted of businessmen and few were his actual friends. There were no signs of her friends; he didn't ask her opinion in inviting her friends nor did he take the initiative to do so. Being around so many strangers made her feel uncomfortable.

Hearing him mention these words, she subconsciously put her guard up.

"Oh? Something is about to happen!" Chen Kai sat up and watched the screen with Chu Han and his girlfriend intently.

The other screens had the typical 'pretending to be forced' ex-classmates scenarios and people using this chance to get their high school crush. They were boring to him but amusing to Su Lian.

"What is it? What did I miss?" Su Lian switched to the same screen as Chen Kai, looking for some sort of clue towards a new real-life drama. She leaned forward in excitement, not wanting to miss a thing.

"Chu Han just cut his birthday cake then he spoke some cringe words to his girlfriend. Poor thing built walls immediately after. Her smile is so fake." He explained everything with high expectations. From the positions of the Chu family and the million and one phones recording the moment, he knew something momentous was about to happen.

Chu Han carefully retrieved the delicate brocade box from the cake. He gave Feng Liu a doting look and smoothly went on bended knee.

"Awwww!!! "

"Is it what I think it is?"

"What a beautiful couple. This marriage will surely be blessed."

"The bride is gorgeous and talented while the man is handsome and capable. Who else can be in such a favored pairing?"

Feng Liu the female lead in their praises was inwardly panicking. The only question in her head was 'When did we get to this stage?'

Chu Han was oblivious to the turmoil in her eyes and was basking in high praises. His woman was the daughter of the County's high official and he was an heir to a lucrative company. He was at the start of his dream.

"Liu'er. Thank you for coming into my life and giving me the joy of being in love. It will also bring me joy for you to be my wife. Feng Liu, would you marry me?"
