Su Lian threw away her sense of proprietary and public etiquette and jumped to her feet, causing the chair to wobble slightly. Chen Kai's eyes shone with amusement as he watched her place her hands on her hips and aggressively tell him to 'get moving'. Someone was pretty impatient.

A loud laugh came from their corner. The classmates who were enjoying their exquisite Western meals looked to the source with looks of contempt and disdain, thinking how 'rude' Chen Kai was.

"As expected of a bastard who only has looks to fall on will have no sense of decorum," a classmate said loftily. Those who heard him sneered inwardly at the guy's pretentiousness and fake Rolex.

"The woman at his side is no better. She looks like a shrew with her actions. It's like good silk covering shit, she may look nice but foul inside," Liu Xianrou commented with a delicate snort.

Her friend, Huang Mei whom she invited stayed silent beside her. Since she arrived, her eyes have been drifting to the 'outcast Chen Kai'. Throughout their dinner, she listened to the gossip around Chen Kai and learned of his background and his years in the county before he left. What surprised her was the so-called sister of Chen Kai, Chu Jia Li was leading the disparaging remarks.

The freshman college girl was stuck to the school bully. To her experienced eyes, she saw the young woman being played by a guy named Tang Yue.

Huang Mei inwardly thought that her reasoning differed from most of the people in this reunion. What was the use of hating on that guy when he didn't even put them in his eyes? They were scheming against Chen Kai who skipped merrily around their stupid plans over the past hour.

Watching Chen Kai and his woman leisurely strolling out of the hall, Huang Mei glanced at the ring leader of these bullies.

As expected, the string-a-long girl, Chu Jia Li is about to step up to the plate.

Liu Xianrou seem to know a bit of the plan to humiliate Chen Kai and told Huang Mei to keep watching for a good show.

Huang Mei on the other hand was expectant. This came from wanting to see these people's egos crash and burn. She has no clue where their high posture came from and who gave them the confidence to act like an emperor above Chen Kai. She also didn't expect Liu Xianrou to be so narrow-minded.

Being snubbed by a guy is part of growing up, okay?

On the other side, Chen Kai was being led into the hallway by his wife while he read the report Argon compiled for him.

His brisk steps became heavier by the moment, his joyous mood was dampened by the words he read. Su Lian felt him slowing down and stopped to question him. They were close to exiting the hallway to make their way to the bank of elevators. The lobby was in sight and a few stragglers were coming into the hallway but Chen Kai didn't give them the slightest look when they passed.

His focus was on his phone. His silence was suffocating. His dark eyes were like a stormy whirlpool with his mixed emotions appearing randomly. Anyone who catch a glimpse of his thoughts would be fear-stricken for days. This seemingly noble and harmless young man had such ruthless thoughts.

It was his mistake. He underestimated that prick's superiority complex.

"Kai?"

"Brother Kai!"

Two females called his name. He answered one.

Pinching her delicate chin, he gently raised her head to hold her gaze. Chen Kai gave Su Lian an apologetic smile. She didn't sulk at his silent apology, she was more concerned about the anger in his tense body. They haven't met anyone ….

"Brother Kai! Why are you ignoring me? Its me, Xiao Li."

The too-high voice of a woman made Su Lian reconsider the statement she was about to say. The annoyed clicking of his tongue told her that this person wasn't welcomed by her husband.

Slipping out of his hold, she stepped around him to get a good look at the girl.

Average height. Slender. Artificially pale complexion. Pretty looks. A simple beauty.

"This must be…" Su Lian started. She boldly scrutinized the girl in front of her and instantly felt a dislike towards her. Those eyes of hers were calculative and she carried an arrogant air that had no essence. It was not borne from birth.

"Yes," Chen Kai answered her unsaid question and tugged her back to his side. He never had special feelings for the wife and children of his 'father.' After his mother's death, he was smart enough to know that he was an outsider and fell into a realm of indifference to the family of four. He was simply living under their roof until he became an adult.

Looking at the only daughter of that man, he showed no signs of recognition or familiarity.

"The young miss of the Chu family, please refrain from using an intimate greeting with my name. I fear my wife will be confused of our relationship."

Su Lian hugged Chen Kai from behind and buried her face in his back to muffle her laughter. The arrogant tone her husband spoke with had unveiled mockery in each word. He wasn't afraid to embarrass the seemingly innocent girl.

Not truly versed with the world, Chu Jia Li raised her head higher when she was addressed as a Young Miss. For a moment she forgot her purpose in stopping Chen Kai and the latter was silently waiting for her to act her role in this stupid game.

"Wife? Why didn't you tell us that you found someone? Also, why didn't you return home? Brother, this isn't fair. Brother Han has been looking forward to a visit from you. He's getting engaged, you know." Chu Jia Li pouted and acted like a spoiled little sister.

Chen Kai raised his eyebrows when she mentioned her brother's engagement. From the materials he read, Chu Han should be hosting his birthday party in the next banquet hall and is planning to propose to his short-term girlfriend who is the county head's only daughter. The Chu family seem to be climbing up the ladder too smoothly.

Argon retrieved a lot of information from the phones of the people he singled out. Wanting to get all the players together, he decided to go along with them. It would be a shame to let these things collect dust in his phone.

"Oh. I guess I should congratulate Young Master Chu when I see him next time.." Chen Kai smoothly replied and waited for her to follow up.

"Oh! Well, you can visit him now. Mom and Dad rented the banquet hall for his birthday and even hired out-of-town chefs to create exquisite meals for everyone. It costs a lot to get things done. Why don't I take you there? You can see how prosperous we've become over the years," Chu Jia Li didn't hold back on her bragging.

Su Lain listening to this little girl's words couldn't hold back her laughter. It's ten times funnier when you are equipped with inside information when people want to brag like this girl.

Su Lian's outlandish laugh drew Chu Jia Li's attention to her. She didn't care about the glare from this girl; Su Lian was only focused on how Chen Kai would deal with these people.

She stood by his side, with her arm around his waist. He, in return, slid his arm across her shoulders and held her close to his body.

"That sounds fascinating."

That reply would have sounded fitting to Chu Jia Li's boasting but the dull tone ruined it.

Chu Jia Li glared at Su Lian then gave her a provocative look."What's so funny? I say, Brother Kai where did you find this underground whore ----"

Before she could complete her sentence she was struck with a lancing pain in her chest. She immediately clutched the position where it pained. She wailed painfully when another attack rolled in. Chu Jia Li was now on her knees crying for help.

Su Lian was confused about what was happening. She rushed forth to help the girl, not noticing the cold sneer on Chen Kai's face as he looked down on Chu Jia Li.

"Where does it hurt? Tell me. I think you need to go to the hospital." The comforting voice of his wife made the cruel expression on Chen Kai's face soften a bit.

"Li'er! "

Player Number Two has arrived.

Tang Yue can be seen rushing towards Chu Jia Li, visibly worried about her.

Chen Kai didn't utter a word. He watched on as the ingrate fussed over the little upstart young miss.

"Li'er! What's wrong?" Tang Yue tried to get an answer from her but all she did was cry that 'it hurts'. Not getting anything conclusive from her, he turned to Chen Kai ready to put the blame on him.

How can he stand there so apathetic while his sister howls in pain before him?

"Brother Chen! Do something! This is your sister!" Tang Yue yelled loudly to attract passersby and also to shame this bastard.

"Why don't you do something instead of screaming like a red-ass monkey?" Chen Kai replied unhurriedly.

"Yo! Big mouth. Why don't you ask clearly what happened? I already called the medics, what else is there to do than wait? Making noise out of nothing. Tch!" Su Lian didn't care who this man was but he was awfully rude to her Kai.

Tang Yue was struck dumb for a moment before he spoke again, not caring how appealing the woman was. He would find another way to get her in his hands after he dealt with Chen Kai.

"He's her brother. He can at least help her up or bring her back to the banquet hall," he protested.

"Heh. I was taught not to be in contact with women I'm not affiliated with. Why should I touch the young miss of the Chu Family? Aren't you, her partner? Should I disregard you then get implicated for 'assaulting' her? Besides, my wife is by her side in my stead.

Do you see how kind-hearted I am? She isn't related to me yet help is given."

By the time he finished his last sentence, a crowd was forming around them. All of them were his past classmates.

Tang Yue held Chu Jia Li in his arms and adapted a righteous expression. "How can you think so negatively? Who would think that way? Everyone knows she's your little sister. Why are you being so cruel?"

"Chen Kai how can you think like that? Why won't you help her?"

"Is this how he repays a family who sheltered him for years? A white eyed wolf in human flesh."

"How deplorable! Who can be with such a man?"

"Disgusting. No ethics or filial piety!"

Everyone took turns commenting on Chen Kai and even spoke unnecessary things that were out of context.

Tang Yue was facing Chen Kai head-on. He haughtily grinned at him, showing him who had the upper hand in the masses. His earlier chances to suppress this loser failed, now that his sister is like this, it was a good chance to publicly humiliate him. He gloated inwardly at the prospect of seeing the look of anger and embarrassment on that too-handsome face of Chen Kai.

Su Lian saw this grin and immediately removed herself from the crying Chu Jia Li then returned to Chen Kai's side. Her heart was aching for her husband. How can people be like this towards someone who didn't even put them in his eyes? He never retaliates nor secretly plots against them.

From the words of this man, it was clear he has malice against Chen Kai and is in the midst of instigating something.

"Kai." Her soft voice cut through the voices of those adamant about morally kidnapping him.

He moved his indifferent eyes from the crowd and Tang Yue and focused on her. He smiled softly and reverently kissed her head. The worry and anger she felt for him were clear in those pure eyes of hers. How lucky was he to have her!

That publicly intimate action made the crowd increase their callous words towards him and her. They were saying idiotic things, wanting to appear morally righteous and to stain his image.

This was a modern era. A man can kiss his woman in public if he wants to. There's no law against that.

They became louder when they saw him ignoring them; hotel security was dispatched to intervene. Chen Kai didn't speak when they arrived, he handed his phone over to Su Lian and listened as Tang Yue took the lead in being the mediator.

When the topic moved to the 'sick' Chu Jia Li and where to move her until Medical Services arrived, Chen Kai clenched his right hand tightly and turned his gaze to the end of the hallway.

Chu Jia Li bellowed in pain; her ear-piercing shriek reached the lobby.

Chen Kai pulled Su Lian closer to him, laughing softly against her ear. Everyone was visibly stressed for the wailing little girl but he was watching the young man running towards them.

Chu Han. His dear 'brother.' The third player has arrived.

The two of them locked eyes. The hatred for each other was clear. Chen Kai mockingly smirked at him while clenching his right hand once more. Its time to begin.

Chu Jia Li was crying harshly, and clawing at her chest, begging for the pain to stop. Her hair was undone and matted with sweat, her dress was messy from the continuous movement making her look disgracefully unkempt. She didn't care about her appearance, she wanted the pain to stop. It felt like thousands of hot needles piercing her heart over and over again, not allowing a moment of rest.

She wanted to be done with this pain.

How can she know the reason for this random heart attack was done by the person she despised and was plotting against?

Chen Kai lowered his head to Su Lian's ears and whispered, "Don't be afraid."

She was confused by the words that brought her out of the disgusting things these people planned to do to them. What did he mean by 'don't be afraid'?

She had no time to think about it when she heard him speak once more.
