Chapter 421: Let There Be Light!
"Ma'am, there is no need for you to engage the hostiles. Just get me closer to them. Once I am done with them, subduing them with our strength and numbers will be a piece of cake," Lola said after hearing her mentor's detailed plan to catch the curse terrorists.
"Lola, it's just too dangerous—" EAD Matthews hated to repeat herself, but she did, knowing Lola's heart was at the right place, but was interrupted by the latter saying, "Ma'am, I heard you the first time. I understand that you don't want to put me at risk, but please trust me on this. I am not asking you to let me fight them. I'm asking you to take me near them. That is all. If you still think that is too dangerous, I can also use my curse ability from here, but they will have enough time to escape my range and take cover."
"Show off," Sonia mumbled under her breath. She was not a fan of Lola, who was not as easy to manipulate as Ava.
However, her dissatisfaction with Lola was on a deeper level. The latter had everything she did not: A complete and loving family, an Innate curse master, and was valued by their organization and country. Lola was getting everything Sonia hoped for in C.I.B. without even trying. What bugged her most was that, like Ace and Elinor, she too did not seem to cherish the opportunity given to her.
Sonia hated the fact that she and her father had sacrificed and fought so much for something these people did not even value. Therefore, even though they did not look down on her, she felt like they were looking down on her by rejecting the very things she was sacrificing and fighting for. Hence, she could not help but feel a sense of displeasure towards them, even though they had not wronged her, especially in the case of Elinor and Lola.
"Lola—" EAD Matthews was about to order her prized pupil to stop arguing and follow her plan, but Delores suggested, "Matthews, let us follow her plan, I will be fast. If it comes to it, I will protect her with my life. You have my word. And in case she fails, we can always improvise on your plan."
Seeing Delores not only guaranteed Lola's safety but also vouched for Lola, EAD Matthews, Evil Eyes, Sugarmite, Manhunter, and the other two Sky-tier from C.I.B. were shocked. Her reputation preceded her. They all knew that it was not easy to get Delores' approval, but for some reason, the latter seemed to approve of Lola. Some of them were still puzzled by the fact that she was so close to Ace and now, Lola. They couldn't help but wonder if the rumors about her were just rumors and Delores was actually very easy to get along with.
But then it could also be because Delores valued their talent and didn't mind helping shape the future generation of curse users. If that were the case, they would like their families' juniors to get close to her, and if luck were to have it, they could catch her eye and directly join the McSuile family's True inheritance.
"Fine, but you must retreat at the first sign of aggression," EAD Matthews gave in trusting Delores' word and her capabilities in stealth and speed. Despite being a tier lower than them, Delores was faster than all of the Sky-tier assembled here.
"Yes," Lola cheered, twirling and break dancing in the air. Seeing her dance in her mascot suit was just heartwarming until a displeased voice rained on Lola's joy, "Lives are at stake, have some decency, Lola."
It was Ava. She finally couldn't hold back and commented. Once again, becoming the center of attention. It's not wrong to want to be the centre of attention; it was the way one chose to become the centre of attention. There were two ways, and the one Ava chose clearly was the wrong way.
"Sorry, I was just too excited, I didn't mean to be insensitive—" Lola paused mid dance and hurriedly tried to apologize, but Ava still criticized her, cutting in, "Know the time and place, friend. You are a C.I.B. trainee; you need to be better. If not for youself, do it for us. After all, you represent us all—"
Sonia smirked, eyeing Lola, whose face was drained of its initial confident and joyful glow, replaced by a deeply apologetic one. She wasn't easy to manipulate, but she was still naive enough not to know Ava was deliberately targeting her.
However, the adults knew but didn't speak out as Ava was Matthew's beloved daughter and they did not want to make things difficult for the latter than her beloved daughter already had. If it were Sonia instead of Ava, it would be a different story.
But Sonia was smart enough to pick her battles. She knew she couldn't get away with this kind of shit like Ava. Therefore, she didn't bother pulling such stunts. And believe her, Lola gave them many opportunities, Ava only caught a few of them, and Sonia chose to let others pass. If not, she could have broken Lola's spirit long ago.
"That's enough," I said aloud, cutting off Ava. Then, turning to Lola, I comforted, "She is jealous of you. Don't listen to her and just show us what you've got. All the best on your first mission, Special Agent Lola!"
Lola nodded at her friend and landed on Delores's board, getting her signal to get on board. There was a reason why Delores not only gave her word to protect Lola but also vouched for her. It was because the latter represented her young master in C.I.B.
Matthews might be Lola's mentor now, but Lola had joined the C.I.B. under the sponsorship of the Crimson-Eyes. Lola's failure and success in the C.I.B. represent the Crimson-Eyes' judgment. Even if Lola was an Innate curse master valued by the C.I.B. and the country, her performance was being viewed under a microscope by all.
After all, the leaders who were very generous to the innate curse master also expect a lot from her. Therefore, Delores was so enthusiastic about helping Lola earn merits. This way, not only would she prove that her young master's seal was impeccable, but also that the innate curse master stood up to the legends and myths about them.
"Northeast corner, 7.5 miles from here," I informed Delores and even offered up the Leprechaun scope to her. So, she can confirm the enemy location.
"We are setting off," Delores said, hugging the big and soft dinosaur plush in front of her after confirming the enemy location and passing me the rail rifle back.
At EAD Matthew's nod, Delores vanished with the wind, and Janice hurriedly passed cuffs with a curse suppression array inscribed on them to each of the sky-tiers. She barely made these cuffs in time. Yes, she was a great curse crafter, but curse suppression cuffs were curse gadgets; she didn't carry enough of them on her. Even an average curse user with little knowledge of curse arrays can build them using curse CNC machines. So, she made a few on-site while participating in the game plan with others.
As for Dee3, she was truly retired as she claimed. Seeing that even the death of one of her animal friends didn't get her to break her resolution, I couldn't help but think that there was a lot more to this resolution than what Dee3 let on and Dame Wasp found. I was a little disappointed, feeling it was going to be a lot harder for me to get her to mentor my toy summons in curse crafting. Or get her to help Lyra with building her Curse spirit curse incarnation army in his absence.
Meanwhile, within the fused curse unveiling and suppression prison curse dominion, Delores made it to the vicinity of the enemy at her fastest speed and mentally ordered Lola, 'Now or Never!'

Taking her cue, the huge dinosaur plush in Delores's embrace came to life and roared thunderously towards their target, chanting, "Let There Be Light!"
As these words reverberated throught the fused curse dominion, the human-size dinosaur plush's mouth opened wide to a comical 180-degree angle, spitting out a football-sized spherical ball radiating extreme heat with a red-golden color and glow, it appeared like a miniature sun.
"Senior, retreat!" Lola yelled, doing her best to control her curse ability from going out of control before they rushed to safety.
Delores did not need to be told twice; she summoned her full speed and rushed back into the safety of the curse array formation at record speed.
Meanwhile, the further Lola got from the red-hot glowing ball hovering in the air, it slowly grew in size, from an average football to a big beach ball, and finally detonated, emitting a bright and blinding flash that filled the entire fused curse dominion and vanquished all the darkness and filth it touched. It was a magnificent sight, as if seeing a scene from the biblical records about the beginning of all creation.
