Chapter 371: Relatively Fine
It would make sense, especially from the scars on Lana's hands and feet. Even her abdomen was slightly scarred, but not too much.
Yet the one he was most worried about, though, was Rara, as even Neraxis himself didn't know how vampires reacted to some poisons.
He felt a chill behind him, and as he turned around, he saw Evangeline glaring at the glass cage, her anger boiling at what had happened to the two girls inside.
She approached the glass cage and infused a portion of her mana into it. Yet it didn't budge even an inch.
"They reinforced the glass with mana," Evangeline said in a monotone voice. "They made sure the girls would not be able to escape by using mana. Especially Lana, who had a knack for this stuff."
Evangeline made a fist and turned to him with a slight smirk. "But you know... one thing about glass like that is that it's incredibly fragile when you use your fists."
With those words, Evangeline suddenly struck the glass, and to her surprise...
"Huh? It didn't shatter?"
"It's not that type of glass, Evangeline," Neraxis said. "It's reinforced both ways to avoid people doing what you just tried to do."
"So how do you break it then?" Evangeline asked with a frown. "Rocket launcher?"
"Pfft... well... yeah, kind of," Neraxis replied, scratching his cheek. "People were too focused on using fancy weapons and fists that they overlooked the simple fact that glass shatters very easily when in contact with a blunt object."
With that, he turned his Arksteel into a simple bat, and swung at the glass, effortlessly shattering it.
He didn't know the science behind it, but he did remember being stuck in something similar. He tried using his scythe to slash through it and his fists to shatter it. But no matter what he did, nothing worked.
That was until, by complete accident, he hit the glass with the hilt of his scythe. Even the people who trapped him were surprised, but they didn't live long enough to warn the others.
That had only been one of his many reckless outings, and the only reason it happened in the first place was because he heard a rumor Elara was alive, and her body was being stored by the government.
My source lied, and I knew it at the time. But I still couldn't dismiss the minuscule possibility that she was somehow alive, even if she had died in my very own hands.
Still, he put those thoughts aside for now as he stepped into the glass tank. Immediately, the multiple poisons that lingered in the air assaulted him.
But it seemed like his poison immunity was considerable, since he didn't even flinch.
The first thing he did was walk up to Rara, open her mouth, and send a droplet of blood down her throat.
Immediately, her complexion got better, so he moved on to Lana.
He broke off the shackles and took out the wooden pins which were pierced through her arms and legs.
And of course, right after, he made her drink his blood as well.
Her wounds began to heal immediately, and her scars swiftly faded. Even so, neither of them regained consciousness.
Evangeline walked up to both of them and inspected their conditions. Soon, she came to a conclusion.
"Looks like their minds were affected pretty heavily. Just keep feeding them your blood, and they should go back to normal soon enough," Evangeline remarked. "But... yeah, the amount of poison in their systems is something else. It's very hard to expel, so I think it's better they adapt to the poison by infusing it into their blood."
"What's that gonna do?" Neraxis asked. "I doubt it's worth the small power gain when I can just go ahead and slowly cleanse it from their systems."
"It's going to take a very long time, Neraxis," Evangeline said flatly. "And don't think poison is necessarily bad. It has its merits too. For one, you gain an immunity to all poisons. And to add to that, their blood would become poisonous and kill most people who come into contact with it."
As much as Neraxis wanted to argue and choose for them, he'd wait for the two girls to wake up and make their own decision.
Of course, in the meantime, he placed both of their heads on his lap and fed them blood.
But that moment of peace didn't last long, as an alarm suddenly blared. Not even a few seconds later, an entire platoon of government soldiers marched inside, aiming their weapons at Neraxis.
To add insult to injury, all of those weapons were identical to the ones Aella had made, so it was clear that they continued their development, even if she wasn't directly involved.
Even so, Neraxis didn't stand up. Instead, he let Evangeline deal with this.
After all, the rage that was boiling within her had long since reached its peak.
"Put your hands up!" a soldier shouted, stepping closer. "Put the specimens back where they should be, and come with us. We are going to escort you out of the premises."
"And put us where exactly? On a spaceship back home?" Evangeline asked, baffled. "You people are the same, both in this world and my own."
The soldier's brows furrowed as he put his hand on the trigger. "Final warning. Move aside from the subjects, or you will be terminated."
[How spooky,] Evangeline remarked. [You sure you don't want to join in on the fun?]
Neraxis shook his head. Have at it. I'm going to continue feeding my blood to these girls. Oh, and make sure they don't accidentally detonate a nuke in here... but if they do, stay close to me so I can teleport us out.
Evangeline giggled and turned her attention back to the soldiers.
Then, without wasting another moment, she summoned an extremely thin blood thread, then sent it outward.
The guards didn't notice it, and before they knew what hit them, their heads fell to the floor, dyeing it red.
But that was not all of the soldiers, as a few moments later, another squad ran inside.
Just this time, they didn't start with words.
