The SSS Legendary Dragon Chose Me On Rebirth

Chapter 140: War constructs and battle formations

Vacuse had already decided not to participate in the battle. It was not because he was afraid, but rather because it was not logical for him to do so.

He had no training in fighting with an army. He did not know what to do on a battlefield compared to the soldiers and Soulbearers who trained specifically for things like that.

So he stood at the battlement of the Last Tooth Fortress and watched as things were about to play out.

The Dragon Lord had left a number of warriors behind to watch and defend his son. And with him were his Dragon Guards and the New Dawn.

"If this was not a hurried battle, we still have a number of war constructs and battle formations back in the Standpoint Fortress to use... but the Dragon Lord did not recall them."

Kagerou looked at Vacuse with a raised brow. "I really do not understand why he did not recall them. The battle formations we have here cannot be more than enough, not to mention the war constructs. No matter how you look at it, things are not looking good.

"Is that why the Dragon Lord gave us the order to retreat when things go sour?"

Vacuse could only nod. He sighed.

"You should understand that the Orcs were a real threat before all of this. If we had recalled our battle formations and war constructs at the wrong time, things might have turned really bad for us very quickly."

Harkon grunted and, in one of his rare moments of speaking, said, "We should not have gone into an all-out war but instead forced a defensive war to stall for time so that the battle formations and war constructs could get here."

Everyone turned to look at Harkon, and then they all faced the moving army.

The Wing Brigade of about two thousand was leading, with their Commander at the very front like an arrow. They shot forward with incredible speed. The horses they rode were bred with monster types, and they emitted a formidable aura as they covered the ground like locusts.

Immediately behind them was a group that was equally fast. But unlike the Wing Brigade or any of the other soldiers in the army, they differed greatly, as they did not ride monster horses.

Instead, they stood on floating wooden platforms.

Each platform had about four to five people on it, and in the middle was a small metal pillar covered in countless runes that completely covered the surface of each pillar.

There were about thirty of such pillars, and as they sped along, the pillars lit up with red light. Each rune shone with blinding brilliance, so intense the pillars were like dying stars.

Then beams of light shot upward from the pillars and formed into the projection of a large circular formation above. The formations were made of different shapes and runes.

At first the projections were faint, but soon they glowed with cutting clarity, buzzing with contained energy that caused the air around them to ripple slightly.

From each of the formations, something began to emerge.

The first thing that appeared was a draconic head with sharp teeth. What came next were red stone eyes, followed by leathery wings.

It was made of gleaming metal, with clawed hands and feet and a tail that swished up and down with savage thickness.

They were war constructs.

On each hand were long metal spears with glowing red tips.

Three flew out from the formation in quick succession and immediately rose into the air, heading straight toward the approaching army.

Then the formation rotated, the light deepened, and beams of red light began to shoot out. Vicious light boomed like lightning.

Vacuse's eyes gleamed. "War constructs and battle formations!"

From the other side of the approaching army, formations hung in the air as well. Humanoid insects of shaped metal figures with wings of translucent steel flew out and shot forward to meet the incoming draconic war constructs.

From the start, it was already apparent that the Red Leaves had more than five times the Vorrakyn's war constructs and battle formations.

Two beams of light collided in the air, causing a large and loud explosion of shockwaves. But many more did not collide; they cut through to the soldiers of the Vorrakyn.

Since only the Soulbearers were on the move at the moment, they created shields above their heads.

Boom! Bam! Kaambooom!

Some of the beams pierced through, reducing bodies to ashes and sending blood and gore flying. The same thing was happening on the Red Leaves' side, but it was nothing compared to the Vorrakyn.

Even the ground-shaking charge of the Wing Brigade had been slowed down as beams from the battle formations focused on them.

But suddenly a whirling sound cut through the air. Red and green light flashed between the clouds, and a mighty shockwave rolled out, bringing with it the massive pressure that came with the fighting between the two most powerful figures from both sides.

Up above the sky, the Duke and the Grand Duke were fighting.

"Do you really think you can harm me? I am an S-rank. Do you think you can match me just because of the toy in your hand?" Duke Frexon was in his full form shift. His body was covered in green shell, and his fingers blurred into razors.

His head was covered in a rigid helmet that seemed to be made from the head of an insect.

The rest of his body was narrow, his legs lengthened and curved. He had wings made of condensed light behind him.

And opposite him was Grand Duke Drenvar.

His skin was now rough with scales, his body bulky and his head larger than normal with an elongated mouth filled with fangs. His eyes were red and slitted.

He held a rusted red sword in his right hand.

Between the cracks of his scales, liquid fire ran like veins. The heat that surrounded him was so intense that it created a small space just above his skin that was free of air.

"I have been waiting to do this for a very long time, Frexon Sevrix."
